  • Kawagoe can be accessed from Ikebukuro in 30 minutes or from Seibu Shinjuku in 45 minutes. It’s a place I definitely recommend visiting for a day visit from Tokyo.

    Growing up next door to my grandmother, she had persimmon trees that I remember...I remember growing up with hundreds of persimmons falling, overripe, fermenting on the grass and swarming with bees and other things that liked them....I guess the smell stuck with me growing up, so I never actually TRIED a persimmon. I can't get the fermented memories out of my mind haha

    There's a street in Narita, famous for the unagi eels and of course, the Naritasan Temple. On the left side coming from the station intersection, there's a very old house where they sell ceramics. I had a chance to talk, asking how old the house is, no matter how simplistic it may be, to the old lady owner who told me the age by a sign of 500, not sure whether it's a 500-year old house or was built in the year circa 500. It's old though.

    I have never been to Japan before and I have a dream to visit Kawagoe one day when I have the chance. There's an old theatre there that was once used in an older Kamen Rider series, unfortunately the iconic looks are now gone since they renovated the building. But I'd still be interested to visit Kawagoe one day 👍

    Love this area. It has so many old Japanese buildings. I don't understand how the concrete block buildings like the first dentist office and the old bank with the columns can hold up to earthquakes. I found those very surprising. Hands down, I like the Japanese old buildings. So many shops and treats and restaurants. Looks like a fun place. Hotel looked really nice. I bet it was very clean and tastefully decorated inside. That is my idea of a fun trip. A day trip to somewhere like this. I think I could spend a week there. Thanks.

    You should definitely try a Cuban sandwich if you can. It's one of my favorite sandwiches! We've been to Japan twice, visiting Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo, Hiroshima, Sapporo, etc. but I think I liked Hakodate the best, as there weren't many tourists there and it seemed like a quaint ocean-side town. We still need to visit Kyushu and Okinawa one day.

    @12:20. I’ve never been to Japan, but I’d like the little quiet towns like that. How do u get dinner if they close down at 4? I love sweet taters. Have u had it dried like candy? Hispanics love them, with pineapple, really good.
    I’m glad ur getting back to a little normal times again. Here in CA we’re getting warnings about a Covid virus. It’s sad.

    I love Kawagoe been there twice. Only complaint is all the traffic on the street and narrow sidewalks. They should consider closing the traffic on weekends. You guys have to try a Cuban sandwich sandwich it’s a special bread but most places outside of Cuban communities use baguette type bread, it has mustard, roast pork, ham, pickles and Swiss cheese grilled on a panini press. Must see is the float museum! They have a festival in the street using floats

      @jameslorrenceocampo4617 Před 2 lety +2

      Its weird that we are complaining on a place that is we are totaly a stranger of it. It is just like complaining as a friends house that were invited and telling them why are your place is like that. As a visitor or a tourist i think we must accept all of its quirks. At the first place we are just visiting we are not that entitled to to have a complain again we are just visiting

    Shin'ichi san: how did you know whether that nice looking restaurant was a restaurant and not a private residence before you went in? Whenever I visit, I am nervous that some place may be a private residence and I do not want to intrude. I also have questions about the custom for restaurants that keep their door closed in the winter and want the customers to slide it open when coming in. I am always afraid that I will end up intruding on someone's home or an office that is closed to the public. Do you tips on how to negotiate these?

    • @Shinichisworld
      @Shinichisworld  Před 2 lety +1

      If it's a restaurant you would usually see a sign that would tell you that it is. However that could be a problem if you don't read Japanese, especially if the sign is subtle. In that case, I would ask someone or just look for another place. Most of the shops on street level, especially on this street are shops of some kind. If it's residential, you'd usually see the name of the family out front. And if you make a mistake, don't worry. Just apologize and it will be ok. Usually residential homes are locked anyway so you won't be able to go in.
