Thank you dude for the video (still useful a year later😀 ). it is known issue with this model PSU. it happened to mine twice. first time I got replacement NAS (same model) since it was still under warranty. now it's happening again so it looks I have to get that PSU .

Odd question, but does either the original PSU or the replacement have an integrated LED anywhere? The troubleshooting guide for Synology indicates you can determine if the PSU is bad by verifying whether its LED indicator (n.b., not the blue indicator light of the Synology integrated into its power button) is illuminated, flashing, or dark. But I don't believe there is even an LED in these PSUs?

I don't recall seeing any LED's on any of the power supplies. Since these are not manufactured by Synology, it may have existed on a PSU at some point in the past and it's just still in some documentation you found?

Hi, thanks for the video! Were you getting any signs that the power supply was failing? Mine will start, but then it just shuts down within an hour or 2, and when I start it back up, I get the "improperly shutdown" message. It did this several times a few months ago, and just started doing it again after being on for a month or so. Did you experience anything like this?

Yes, this is similar. There has also been an issue with some older models (2014-15 I think) where the processor was the issue. However both processor and power supply would result in the "improperly shutdown" message. You could give the power supply a try.

I got it fixed a couple weeks back, it turned out to be the BC847 transistor. A few years ago my unit was faulty, and stopped working, so it was replaced under warranty with a another unit that I believe had the fix for the CPU bug as it already came with a resistor, and probably a newer power supply. So I only replaced the transistor and cmos battery. So far it's been working with no hiccups. Fingers still crossed though.

@@f33d13ack Oh, that's great! glad to hear you were able to resolve it. I have not had to replace any transistors yet, but with three 2015 models still running, if any of them die on me, I'm just getting a new one!

@@clearontech haha, I hear ya. I almost decided to just upgrade to the newer 1522+ instead, however, the upgrade is still on my list whether this one fails again or not. I need another backup anyways.

how did you test to see if it was the PSU that's broken and not the other motherboard problems that's plagued this NAS?

Hi @shilezi I didn't test anything before hand. Since there was no response (lights, fan, etc) I took the chance that it may be the power supply that failed.
