“I can play this here guitar”.
That’s quite an understatement.
Of the century!
I went to George’s house to help setup a new keyboard with a producer I work for as an engineer and he showed us his guitar practice and a bunch of tunes for a couple hours and then we all sipped on some crazy expensive whiskey. One of the best nights of my life
Where there many guitars in his house?
Cool. Lucky you. Seems like a very cool guy.
Lucky you!
That’s what life is all about..Those awesome memories
I did this with a famous artist some years back when he sat in with us..
Some stuff tends to stick in the head for various reasons.
It’s hard to believe anybody could be that good.
Artificial Intelligence is lobbying to get him cancelled .....
Ladies and gentlemen that is George benson, probably the best jazz guitarist ever. That automatically makes him the greatest guitarist ever.
On the R&B side of jazz, maybe, though Wes Montgomery led the way. For more straight-up jazz, Joe Pass is utterly phenomenal, very different.
Nonsensical statement.
@@robertlepper5460 I think your post made sense, it was wrong but it was coherent.
Getting fed up of adverts interrupting amazing music by brilliant musicians.
This is legend. IT only took him minutes on the other guy's rig to feel it out and then rip. Also how he pays attention to the bass solo. Absolute Master class.
Easy to see he is the real thing. No poser here just talent the rest of us can only dream about.
With a bunch of strange guys on a shredder guitar unlike anything he plays! This is an amazing performance!
I think that after the gig, when I got home, I would take that white guitar, put it on a stand in the living room and just stare at it for the rest of the night trying to understand how George could find the music he played on it! Took him all of ten seconds to get his tone out of it. The band's guitarist strapped on a guitar but then just took it back off and spent the rest of the song just watching George. Can't say I blame the guy. I think of George Benson walked on stage when I was doing a gig, I probably wouldn't be able to play Mary Had a Little Lamb. This must have been such an honor.
No warmup. He just stood up, and this fluffed off of him… Too much! ❤❤👏👏
I'm a long time fan of George, and a guitar player. He got up without a warmup, playing somebody else's rig and just tore it up !This is proof of why I'm a fan, go George go !!
"Sure,..I'll come up there. Hold my beer." George Benson; an amazing authentic classic in this world of copycats and wanna bes etc.
The bass player is blistering on this too
I really enjoyed his solo..man!
The bass player gave it back to the legend. That is the way you do it.
Probably the best version of this by George and an impromptu performance, no less!
Amazing!
I saw many of the greats perform live in concert in the 70's and 80's. Michael, Prince, Earth, Wind & Fire, U2, Bowie, Heart, Bryan Adams. All of their shows were spectacular. But my favorite all time live concert moment was George Benson playing "This Masqurade" at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. George and the band played the song down just like the record and when they were done the stage lights went down the spotlight hit George and his guitar and he proceeded to play the song again by himself using the craziest jazz block chords, scatting and guitar ad libs I have ever heard in my life. I could not believe what I was hearing!!! I remember looking at my girlfriend in shock I was so amazed at what I was hearing. I grew up listening to herbie, chick, weather report, etc... And my father was a well known tap dancer in 50's who performed with Duke, Basie and Nat King Cole and my Godfather is the late great Erroll Garner. So I had heard some amazing jazz musicians before that night I saw George. Hands down the best live concert moment I ever saw! 🎼🔥👍💥
You had the same concert experiences I did. My boss managed EWF, Prince and Weather Report'. A friend from Warner Bros records got us front row seats for George Benson st the Music Center in LA. 70s were the very best in live and recorded music. This is such a great video!!'
What a treat for the audience, they will never forget this performance.
Those parts that could be heard.m,
Just watched Rick Beato's incredible interview with George and had to find this video I remembered watching. What an absolute masterful legend. Seriously, nobody compares to this guy. Hops up on stage sitting in on a metal shredder guitar and sounds exactly like ... George Frigging Benson! THE MAN!!!!!
Huh! The spontaneous joy you stumble across in you tube.
Lol
@@valdatriegaardt6310 Thank you for bring me back to groove all the way down to my shoes on this toe-tappin' masterpiece again... George on a solid body, sends shivers down my spine.
Nothing but the best on rubber hits channel.
Man that was great... and very kind of you to invite him up on the stage. Respect
He will always be one of the greatest guitar players ever!!!
George Benson with a fucking super strat guitar! wow he gets his jazzy sound from any guitar!!! its in his fingers!!!
The man can play the guitar like he’s walking and dancing on water. And dang, his voice is still as sharpe and fabulous as ever. Legend.
Gold
Shreds. He’s unreal
Justfor fun, watch George play guitar, sing and dance on rollerskates in his 80’s video Give Me The Night
Mr.George is possibly 'the' most respected and respectable man in music, always the professional.
I had the opportunity to Mr. Benson in Concert in US Virgin Islands. Man I was blown away. The best jazz guitarist ever!
I met george in 92 when he had a tour in argentina; he held a guitar clinic to a limited audience and I was there. I asked george about his picking technique, he said just play softly. well I have to say he is a very very very humble guy, I even took a photo and got his signature. It was just like a dream come true, as a jazz guitar student.
This song STILL makes me bounce and strut like it did when I was seven years old. I cannot give it high enough praise, it's just that great a song.
I was probably 11 or so. Amazing song and an amazing artist.
To play like this on someone else’s rig on the fly, no words can describe the level of professionalism he exudes! Wish I’d been in that club when this took place, Holy Cow!
A beautiful, humble, man of god. We love you George.
So he was just chilling and then they called him up for a jam and he put on this astounding show? Just like that?! Dude's incredible, and the band's killing it, what a video!
benson is like michael jackson but instead of dancing he plays guitar.
I know. No freaking warmup. Just… BOOM! ❤️
He’d played that song a few times before.
Every second of this more precious than gold. The world is a much better place directly due to this footage. A thousand thanks are not enough. George is a God, and the bass solo was superb - I'm sure even George's secret weapon, the great Stanley Banks would agree.
❤I watch this video at least once a week 😀 So good..😊
"Cuz I can play this here guitar " what a talent..astounding
@@bassmanbilly1969 me too, every Friday my husband grabs his guitar and plays along whilst I dance. Each time we simply agree Benson is AMAZING ❤
benson george
George Benson, Prince, Stanley Clarke, George Duke, etc. Remember folks he's in the audience chilling and can come up and play and perform flawlessly. You don't see these types of guys today. Classic's Crate.
You don't see guys today who can get up and play when invited onstage? Are you out of your mind?
Take a pop song, adapt it to a jazz riff, then enrich it with a rich timbre...this is genius. Viva George!
One of the most natural guitarists the world has ever seen...remember Billies Bounce???
This just shows thatmost music and "musicians" today SUCKS! This is real music played with heart and soul!
It does no such thing. A lot of music and musicians in 1978 when George Benson recorded the seminal love "On Broadway" track sucked as well, CZcams only surfaces the good stuff for your rose-tinted glasses.
It's not just that you're old, it's that your ears have shut down and you're not trying to find awesome new music. That's your right, the best from 100 years of recorded music will inevitably outclass whatever this decade can contribute, but spare us your dismissal of music made today.
It's almost a fear to do what they want, The Stones were surprised when they went back to their roots recently. They released the album with a slight warning it wasn't very rock n roll. It was loved by the fans.
Some of the modern guys judt need to let rip, stop trying to keep up an image. They are good enough I'm sure. That David guy who covered Simon and Garfunkle's sound of silence for example.
A TRULY AMAZING TIMELESS MASTERPIECE From GB A TRUE and REAL MUSICIAN and ARTISTE THANKSSß
Holy Mother of God!!! George Benson Ladies and Gentleman! So glad he was born.
Every time he does this song it gets better. George truly is a S T A R. Just amazing hearing him jam, live and free.
Jeez, I,m sure that George could play this 10, 15 different ways, & as long as he has got that brilliant bass behind him, it will always sound fantastic.
There is no musician on this planet with more COOL than George. So friggin amazing.
Wah Wah Watson
Still cannot believe this footage - he's sitting there trying to have a night off, and the next thing, he's up on stage giving it large; the absolute legend that is Mr George Benson - never off duty and the definition of professionalism. How lucky to be in the audience that night - if only ...
pretty sure that it was pre-arranged
@Nostalgic Lady Aaa but your here now connecting through time and space. What blessings we all have to connect to so many ages and artist and teachings that those with some Forethought and their willing sacrifice to hold still as can be many times just to provide for future generations like yourself right now or whenever now was when you heard this but again still not limited to only then but you can listen again and again and even share with others who can share O How glorious is that recorder or cameraman who many a times will never be known to those who receive their blessings from their sacrifice and there mercy to those of us who when listening to such great works of art feel filled with movement and spontaneous flowing thought movement, song and rhythm and harmony that to be still and not move and not sing and keep as quite and solid with not moving for a better experience for the future being like us who are so fortunate...I just really felt like i needed to thank the audio and video recorder and acknowledge their sacrifice for the future generations...would love to be able to search for the Roy Ayers show with George Benson here on you tube and to find the show you all are speaking of back there in comments💖💦🤲🙌🖖💃🤸♀🤹♀🧘♀🐯🐾🐉🌹🕸🛸🪐⚡🏳🌈☸☯⚛🌪🍄🛸♾🕉🧲🧬💹🎼🎧🎤🪗🎷📢📢🔊🎵📿🌩🌠🌟⛲🌄⛪🌐🗺🏔🏞🏝🎪⛺thanksdoc🧙♂🧘♂👣⚜🏳🌈🔴🟠🟡🟢🔵🟣🏳⚧⬜⬛🟪🟦🟩🟨🟧🔴🔺💱🔃🔄⚛🕯🎨🎄🌅🌏🌎🌍🌻🌱🐚🐢🐳🦋🦎🪶🕊🐄🐂🐮🦬🦁🫀❤🩹💗💓😹😻🥺goodvibesthanksdocchillwcatbufferingstayhomelearningsocialdist😂😇🤗🛌🍌🍋🥭🥥🫐🌶🥢🏡🏯⛪🗽⛲⛵🛰🚀🥗🥬🥑🫒🍅🥝🍒🍓🍌🍹🗾🏟🏯🛺🎭🧩🎯🧿🥽🥼🥻👘🩳📯🔔🕯🪙💵💴🖋✒🖊🖌📆📐📏📈🗝🔑⚒🛠🪛🔧🪚🪓🔨⛏⚙🛡🪐🕸🦬🦇🦋🕷♌♒🔱☯☸🔯☮☦⚛✡🕉🪘🪕🎻🪗🎷🎹🎸🎺🥁🖥📽🎥🎬🪔🪡🧵🪄🔮🔥🌀🌪🌈⚡🌊⛩🌉♨🌋🏘🛖🏕🌽🌴🌳🪴🌲🐝🦜🦚🐦🐤🐓🐔🧞♀🧚♂✊🤟❤🔥

Wow..just wow! What a performer. 👌👌 "I can play this here guitar" Yes he can!
I like how he came in completely cold and started rippin' it right away, lol.
George’s mum gave birth to a guitar and George just happened to be attached to it …never seen such a natural guitarist
I took my little sister to see George Benson in concert back in the 70's. Stellar performance and such a gentleman.
Send this to a reactionary. I've always loved this song, but this is above and beyond they're killing it. Any George Benson is top of the heap!
Simply "AMAZING"-- George Benson is the best. What a musician and the band is killing it. I Love this song. I still have the long 45 version. On Broadway 🎶🎶🎵
Unbelievable. He is possessed of so much talent. What a lesson in just jumping up and giving it all up. God bless you, George Benson!
God Bless you George 🙏
It’s like he went back in time and grabbed his younger hungrier self .The first Jazz guitarist to cross over to the pop world .This post was like a fine wine .
Me and a friend saw this man do a show in Dallas late nineties and he tore this song up for about 30 minutes. Never seen anything close to what they did just blew my mind. Tight, tight tempo changes and crazy funky riffs on his guitar.
Legendary musician and hero
I once met George Benson; he was unexpectedly in the audience at a Roy Ayers gig in Ronnie Scotts around the turn of the millennium. He went up & did an impromptu tune with the band much like this, borrowing their guitar... Afterwards I eagerly sought him out in the audience as a big fan to thank him for his music (loved his Cookbook era) & as a jazz guitarist myself ask for any tips at all. He was super nice & friendly, but said he only had a few minutes to spare as had to chat to friends & to advise any nuances on the guitar would take way longer than that for him to even begin... Was just an honour to meet him I thought... I was at the club with my brother & at that time we looked much alike... My brother had been missing for ages so I looked around & eventually went to the upstairs bar to find him looking very confused... He told me George had appeared just offering tips on the guitar & they'd gone aside for a long advisory chat... He was too bewildered to ask why Mr Benson had proffered to give him so many tips & too starstruck to question why or really take it all in (he's also a jazz guitarist however so it fit in a bizarre & cosmically intuitive way for him!)... Turns out George wasn't remotely giving me any brush off earlier & after catching up with his buddies had later pulled my brother aside thinking he was me to really help out with some advice. I'll always really really rate him as a legendary man just for taking that time for me even if I didn't get to share it first hand!
Wow, incredible story...
Wow...Such synchronicity...How serendipitous! What a great share!!! Thanks.
Great story. Love it.
Great story, thanks for sharing this
🌹💖
I was just a boy when Benson's album "Breezin'" ruled the charts. I thought he was an amazing artist. After all of these years he had not lost that magic
Mark Whitfield looks so incredibly happy and proud to see his mentor, teacher, and hero take the place by storm.
No idiots holding up their phones. Back when people knew how to enjoy a show. And knew how to really play!!!
This is your favorite guitar player's favorite guitar player.
My man!
facts.....
This is true.
I enjoy every aspect of this video. I get a special kick out of watching the young men's obvious glee to be playing with George. The young man on the right appears to be mesmerized, memorizing George's every move with the guitar.
according to the credits, it seems that guitarist is Noam Dworman....owner of the Comedy Cellar?
@@rickjenkins7893 I don't know, but that would be cool. He had the best seat in the house.
That was AWESOME❕❕❕
I've loved George Benson for 50+ years.
On Broadway is good but This Masquerade is my fav song. 😎👍👍
❤️ ❤️ ❤️
All I can say is wow he never changes. Can you imagine being taught by George Benson???
How lucky would you be to have been in that audience, expecting to see one act, and then get GEORGE MF BENSON as a bonus???
Just a great singer and guitar player !
that guy is an angel put on earth to make people grow,I have no other explanation...
I watched this many times, and I glad the woman gave a hell of kiss 💋
That bass player is no joke either!
the guy is incredible! and the "camera man" turns his camera to him after 3 minutes in solo :)
That bassman have that monster groove...u the man
true
yeah i was like he can try, but he was there, very impressed
Glad he could deliver when George asked for it! :D
First time I've ever seen GB play a Strat-style solid body guitar, and still killed it. A reminder that its the player, and not the gear, that makes the music sound and feel good.
Solid body's are no different than hollow body's, same 6 strings and same tuning.....lol My dad watched Wes Montgomery play a sears silver tone once in a show because his gear was held up at the airport. lol 1962, true story
It ain't the arrow...it's the Indian.
Damn right - it's all in the fingers/hands/body. He's wearing it considerably lower/strap-wise than he normally would, but still got that swing.
I once played Allan Holdsworth's actual guitar through Allan Holdsworth's actual rig. It did not sound even remotely like Allan Holdsworth.
Which was disappointing, but predictable, I guess.
As we say down here in New Orleans, yeah you rite.
Damn, the man has always, always, always had the smoothest hands. He's like Roy Clark: impeccably talented and enjoys himself on stage so much, it's infectious. You can''t help but have a great time. Period.
Funny you mention Roy Clark. Look up a session where they played together.
@@clarenceconwell6183...and where Roy does Dueling Banjos with Glen Campbell.
The Bass player was amazing also.
When most people think of George Benson, they usually think of one or two of his hits (ie: Give Me The Night), but what they often overlook is just how talented he is. One of the “Greats” as guitar players, and so much more❗️
I've never seen George play a solid body guitar, but it sounds good!!
There is no argument George Benson is the greatest jazz blues guitar player that has ever lived
Martin Fisher not according to Santana, it is Gabor Szabo who showed new ways of playing( jazz) guitar. GB is phenomenal I agree but, as also being a Hungarian myself, and them both having been friends at one time in the past and attending the same school I heard that GB took some tunes that was written by GSZ.
I wonder if anybody has any comment or info about this...
I always come back to this clip. AMAZING❤❤❤ Loved George Benson my whole life. This band is smoking too!!
This what happens when Gods touches someone and they find their calling. George Benson is the simply sensational. He's the best period.
dideal1 agree 🙌🏻🤝🤘🏻
Holy crap! George just jumps up there, grabs someone else's guitar, and shreds like he's possessed. T-A-L-E-N-T! And the bass player is good - love how he solos and impresses George enough to comment to his protege.
brotherjahluv exactly!
Yes indeed, !!!....Bassist makin' his presence known.
Yeah
Love Heart &Soul Artists.....
Fab" 👌💙 👏👏👏
Those of us who go back with bro benson remember the Bad Benson Album🎸
Then later they found out he can sing too' and the rest is history ... Truly gifted artist, legend .
Great job guys ... killer solos ... Mr. Bass and George
OMG... I have loved George Benson and his incredible style since I worked on one of his concerts at Central Michigan University back in the 1970's. The man was so nice, he even invited us all back to his dressing room for champagne after the concert. Total class and style!
George is one of the best ! That bass player was popping some great notes! Great combination of both. Unforgettable performance! Thank you
I saw George in 1989 with McCoy Tyner in Antibes at the Festival du Jazz. George started playing and he was in the zone, his guitar was singing with him and they would trade the lead and you felt he had no idea where the song would go ... he was just following where his guitar took him and it was pure genius and magical and goosebumps and I'll never forget that night. My head was burning because I was so overwhelmed with emotion. Thank you George.
Seen him play at Sahara in Lake Tahoe in 1978, Minnie Riverton was also on the bill!
Some of the happiest moments of my life were spent listening to music like this with friends and family.
This is priceless.
having been into george starting in the late 70's ,i consider myself extremely "blessed" to watch and hear george in this clip. we have been given a man's accumulated skill and maturity that he's acquired over the years . this for me is way richer and deeper than anything we got from the early george . what a precious historical document . it's just like old good wine . george and the boys caught the magic that night .pity the vid quality is so crap.but despite the poor vid quality we can still catch and feel the exceptional performance .
i suspect george was front and centre for this and really tried hard for the guys that called him on stage because they honoured him so much .that's what made it way better than anything i've seen heard him do.he really put his whole heart into this plus a bit more for the guys .it was a personal thankyou from george to them because they were smart enough to recognise more than most people what he's capable of ..they made it hard for him and set the bar really high when they addressed him as THE GREAT GEORGE BENSON . but george jumped up and over with ease .and brought the GREATNESS with him
King George! I met George Benson thru Phyllis Hyman in P.A. What a treat! Later that evening Grover Washington Jr. and Ralph McDonald came walking thru the door. What a night just listenening to all of their stories.
2024 still the best
It bums me out so much to see that George Benson sounds like George Benson on any guitar.
I had been holding on to the hope that I would sound just as good if I only had his gear. Guess I’ll go practice. And cry.
TheRealMcP I’m coming to cry with you too
At one point I thought my parents were rich and just hiding it from me to teach me how to relate to the common man. A comparable level of disappointment.
@@stockstilloutdoor6111 - dude that is about the cleverest comment I have ever seen on social media. Brilliant! made me smile … txs
Been down that rabbit hole man. Bought and sold several guitars hoping, "this is the one." I'm fairly good, these guitars are as good as they come, but in no way can that combination even approach the virtuosity of George Benson. At times, I hav wanted to burn guitars, throw them in the river or smash them with a hammer. It's a false church! As so clearly demonstrated here, it took George maybe ten seconds to get his tone and get acclimated to this little overdrive shredder guitar, a guitar I would not even pick up, and tear the roof off the house with it. He has always been and always will be my single biggest influence, even though I can not play anything remotely like him. This video is yet again an inspiration, a call to get back and practice more today. Thanks as always George Benson. Truly the best ever.
I went home, kicked my guitar off the stand and went back to the drums. What's the point? Haha
Class, sass, smooth as silk, amazing right and left hand, amazing voice, amazing stage presence, the rare allarond package, ladies and gentlemen the gold standard of jazz guitar, the one and only George Benson!
George Benson is a living legend to the tenth power.
In a complicated world. Talent humility and enjoyment kick in. Thank you George
a loaner guitar and a strange microphone .... and bammmm
one of our greatest stars
gaga could do that.
After all these years, I keep on coming to this version. Masterpiece! Also don' forget that the bass player killed it as well!
Love the bass tone absolutely the best of both world
Every state needs their very own George, guitar, voice and vibe!!! Be much better the go and flow of smiling styling happy folk.
The music of Faso is an inexhaustible source of sweetness.
It allows us to plunge deep inside ourselves and at the same time resonate with our fellow man, Yé Lassina Coulibaly❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He can still play at a high level! Voice sounds great!!👍🏻👍🏻✌✌
Yes indeed......George Benson. A long long time ago George use to work for my uncle in the roofing business when George was just getting his start. The biscuit and gravy district of Downtown Pittsburgh. Ever since then, George Benson has been a household name in my family and my Grandfather always said that if you ever are in the presence of George...........you are in the presence of greatness...far beyond royality, you are in the presence of the right hand man of God. How true he was........................
Agreed. Never sell George short.
What a good thing man. You should all be proud, and I know you are. I'll send you a great big hug to all of you.
On Broadway!! The reason why I first listened to George Benson... Now, I play Harmonica to this...:)
Funk, soul and jazz all in one go!
Just pure brilliance!
The amount of cowbell is *just right*.
I'm pretty sure we're going to need more cowbell.
Helluva group of musicians.
I had a FEVER. But I got my prescription.
No fever!!
😂😂😂😂😂
I am a big fan and I admire the fact that he has never said a curse word , what a genuine nice person!
From my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pa, George was born.....
This man is sick with talent.....
Got 5 of his albums on my playlist!
Phenomenal Performance!
the man is taking his time, chilling, they ask him to get on the stage and he does an OUTSTANDING performance. Got to admire him for leting the bassist have his time too, and god what a solo. GB, great among the greatest
I can't stop watching this. Always loved George Benson since the 70s. Please play this at my graveside when my time comes.
How lucky to see that live George is just awesome
Fell in love with his music at the age of 14 when my dad introduced me to him. 42 years later and never tired of his music. Watched him 3 times live and met him once in Vancouver BC.
That is a man that likes doing what he does
