When Laura was talking I was reminded for some reason of an interview with Grimes. Then she said that Grimes is her modern day hero!

12:13 - Well, Adele didn't get paid to say those things about Beyonce, so clearly, not getting paid to do X is not sufficient for X not to be commodified.

If you ask me to explain why I will tell you I have no freakin idea, but feels like she is losing the universal appeal and becoming more and more 'whiter'. Sorry if I'm sounding racist...

    • @oddn

What exactly is 'whiter'?! She's always had strong folk and classical undertones to her sound. Just because those genres of artistic expression originated in predominantly white European cultures doesn't devalue them. We have music from all cultures on this planet and one is no better than the other. Why does she have to conform to your limited idea of 'universal appeal'? True art does not conform, it is fearless in staying true to its own freedom of expression. If you're not keen on her going down a less 'pop' path that's your problem, and nothing to do with 'becoming whiter'.
