We are finally wrapping up the Dream Spaces series with Episode 8: Styling Tips and Finishing Touches! In my previous styling video, I demonstrated my top designer tips for styling surfaces like consoles, coffee tables, nightstands. Today we will be tackling the finishing touches and showing you those key components to help every corner of your home look finished and complete!

Use items that have a purpose, don’t make it too “perfect,” and edit or don’t be afraid to leave some spaces bare to let the furniture or wall show. Great advice.

What I would like to see.... how to make choices to create a space that is timeless. It isn’t really possible because things do go in cycles.... totally neutral spaces will eventually fade away....But I am talking about the basics. I personally like very good quality upholstery, my friend likes to replace hers every few years. It is in my nature to keep good quality pieces. I am just now recovering furniture that was purchased in the early 80’s. Which is quite daunting to choose colours that will last through the next series of colour cycles.
We are all different, that is a good thing. I did really enjoy this series.😊
“Timeless” is also very subjective Rozann. What I think is timeless and classic can be seen as very traditional or dated to some. Stripes are timeless, but can be too bold. Neutral is timeless, but beige can get old (and very circa 2000). Sheers are timeless, but some may say too 70’s. The only way you can win is if you design with heart and stay true to YOU. Regardless of what anyone thinks of it 😉

Great advice on finishing touches. I am swooning over the living room example that’s all coffee and white. Usually such a limited palette seems difficult to execute while incorporating pieces collected over time or too restrictive but not in these neutrals. I’m taking time to live in my bedroom a while before completing it. It’s cream and beige with walnut wood hues. I vacillate between all neutrals or a whisper of accent color. That room definitely makes an argument for neutrals.
I hear you Michelle. I see and source so much for my clients that I vacillate between so many different ideas as well. My best advice? Print out your favorite looks and tape them somewhere where you’ll see them every day. You’ll either love it or leave it by month’s end 👍🏻

I'd love to see you do videos about specific decorating styles and what trademarks you could use to help recreate that style. I in particular am interested in older styles, like Victorian. Maybe even modernizing certain styles a bit so they aren't so harsh and outdated.
Love the idea, what do you think about an entire series based on different styles? One style mixed with another per episode? Would it turn you off to new episodes if you don’t like the particular style? 🤔
@@JulieKhuu Me personally, no, not at all. I'd be stocked to see that stuff. I'd imagine the average viewer would only click on the styles that interest them, but I imagine I'd probably watch most, I'm very much an artist and really go into my hobbies and learning about them. But I think it would be a great series for people to search and find, it seems like everyone in the comments learns a ton from you, I certainly did, and having an expert show you the ropes of what you're trying to do is so helpful.
but yeah to answer the questions, entire series sounds great, mixing styles in the video briefly might be nice unless they warrant a new video, new episodes would only turn me off if they were so out of what I was watching your channel for, which everything has been helpful so far, so i doubt most really be turned off but that's me.
I’ve loved every episode of series - I now know what my new kitchen splash back will be and this episode - trays - the penny has dropped - I’m sure Julie you have mentioned the benefits of trays dozens of times through the series - so I will get one for the vanity to keep the soap dispenser; toothbrush holder ( I’ll add a candle ) in one place - there’s a bare corner wall above the kitchen bench that I had no idea how to utilise til I saw all the lovely open wood shelving in the kitchens you featured - so thank you 😊

Thank you so much for watching Kiran! I love this idea! Right off the bat, doors should typically match your trim (base/molding) unless you have a distinct design intent where you want the contrast. Wood stained is warm, white is clean and modern, black is edgy and glam, color is personal and should reflect your style and mood of the space.
