I actually got all my stuff, and left one evening, without telling anyone (landlord was going nuts cos I owed rent)
Moved to a squat that another mate had. Had a ball, because it was full of italian girls.
Yip. And 10 years later after I lost the rag with his useless ass, we’re still not on speaking terms. Best thing I ever did.
I had some shit roommates. One who was kicked out by my dorm floor, because he was vandalizing their rooms when they were gone. Another I had to get arrested when me and my other roommate had enough of the lunatic. Another who I got along well with, but literally left mountains of trash everywhere, literally had to shovel it out. A guy straight out of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia who played the shittiest arabic pop music 24/7 (never got a wink of sleep), spent hours combing his hair, plugging the sink, and would scream at the top of his lungs whenever he was on the phone, kicking his disgusting feet up on my desk. But I'd take them all back together anyday over Begbie.
I just realized he turned back after hearing Begs scream because he had to go back to collect the winnings, not because he didn’t want to deal with Begs’ annoying impositions

This movie was so well done in every aspect...the writing, casting, cinematography, story, truth and message were all there in an hour and a half....

Begbie is a treasure of modern literature.
As a struggling musician touring up and down the New England coast in the early 90s with a nasty Heroin habit I can tell you in all honesty... It was the absolute worst time in my life... and the absolute best time in my life.. Clean for over 17 years now in 2020.

@@r2d2musk6 exactly. I was (and still am every now and then) a hard-core dope fiend, and it was the worst time of my life and the best time of my life. I hated being broke and sick all the time, but I also loved the randomness and crazy lifestyle where you didn't know what each day will bring. And I loved the getting high part too of course. Such a contrast between that and the monotonous 9-5 life most normal people live. For me, I just hate boredom, and you're never really bored when you're a dope fiend. You're either high and content, or losing your mind trying to score.

What a fantastic actor Robert Carlyle is. He first caught my eye when I was 15 in Once Upon a Time playing Rumplestilskin, and he gave an amazing performance in an otherwise average series with mediocre performances. He deserves more recognition.
This movie and Ravenous back in the 90s drew me to his work. Great actor indeed.
To Laura B... You might be right, but I have a theory about people who play a role as well as Carlyle is doing here. It could be that they do so well because their own sub-conscious is coming through. That is, they're not acting.

Just rewatched this last night, one of my favourite films of all time. The script, cinematography, casting, soundtrack, everything is fucking golden. I'd put Trainspotting up there alongside Pulp Fiction and Fight Club as one of the defining films of 90s cinema.

I was 18 when this came out, so had just started going to pubs regularly. The 90's was such a defining decade in my life - 12 years old when the decade began, 22 when it finished. Think of all the change in that 10 year span. This movie always takes me back to that time.
It’s set in the late 80’s.
It's set over a time period that starts in the 80's and finishes in the 90's. Look up the track playing in the nightclub (For what you dream of, 1993). And Renton's line "drugs are changing" is reference to the ecstasy scene booming in the early 90's. And it was released in 96, hence why it reminds me of that time.

@@viniciustrovo1196 They don't intend to kill them, Fentanyl is really easy to smuggle and is cheap so mix it with heroin or even make it look like heroin and cut with something and the addicts love it, strongest "heroin" they ever had. Trouble is its way, way stronger, comparing heroin to fentanyl is like comparing caffeine to cocaine and its really easy to put too much in or the addict misjudge how much they are taking.

The attention to detail in here is great. I once watched a random film starring Burt Reynolds in a car chase in San Francisco. There inside the car piled around the back window there was a pile of clothes. A friend of mine told me to watch it again and freeze the frame of clothes. He told me there was a t shirt of a local tiny GAA club in derry, ireland. I watched it back, he was right. EVERYTIME U WATCH TRAINSPOTTING MORE DETAIL IS VISIBLE

I have never been addicted to heroin, but I have been addicted to alcohol, cigarettes, marijuana, cocaine, psychedelics, pornography, sports betting, and some minor addictions like coffee and sugar. Addiction has been a big part of my life; for better or worse. I hit rock bottom at 23 and was able to stay five years 100% clean and sober. It is said easy, but it is not. Less in Mexico... Currently I consume discriminately and I have periods of addiction and detoxification.
I comment on all of the above, because as an addict, this and other movies like Fear & Loathing in LV have always had a special place in my heart. Above all, I identify a lot with this film, because it accurately portrays addiction: the black humor, the addict's mentality, the addict's acts; everything is trustworthy. I came to steal from my own parents to consume, I swore and once again that it would be "my last hit", I came to surround myself with leeches who, more than being friends, were fellow drug addicts; drugs joined us for many years; we were constantly partying to techno and heavy metal concerts. Just as I have great memories, I have other truly terrible ones...
All of the above, stemming from the fact that I think Trainspotting is a cornerstone of the '90s; cinema that defined a generation; timeless classics. And as an addict, the high is even more powerful!
