    This Van does exist in two versions. The version you drove is called Vito (in Germany/ Europe).
    The version for the luxury is called V-Class. The major look is the same. But bumper, lights and of corse the intirior are different.

  • @sunc93
    @sunc93 Před 7 lety +26

    I don't know how it is in the US
    But in Europe there are two versions
    - The Vito which is for workers, so cheap and durable
    - The Viano which is for Family and is very high end (and very expensive)
    So the viano has none of your negative Points, but it is expensive

    I just got leftover 2016 Metris passenger van last week. Has cruise control has back up camera. It also came with painted bumpers Comfort seats,appearance package for the interior, Cold weather package with insulated windows and heated seats. Relieve me check the bro sure there's lots of options to order. It also alloy wheels

  • @kenney5454
    @kenney5454 Před 6 lety +9

    I bought one loaded, painted bumpers, mag wheels, cruise, camera etc., shop around. It does everything my old E250's did but with twice the gas mileage in comfort and style. After 30K mile the van averages 23.8 mpg, if I reset the computer while in cruise control at 65 mph, it over reads 30 mpg loaded with shelves, partition and loaded with tools and HVAC stock. Make sure you get the blind spot car indicator option, it should be standard. The sporty mirrors lack confidence when changing lanes to the right, BEEP!

    Upfitters are beginning to offer options to make this van like a VW Eurovan. There is a shop in Golden Colorado that is installing a poptop camper roof on my van next week. This will go a long way towards turning this van into something more fun than an airport shuttle van.

  • @merog2

    In Norway this van is used as police cars. We use bought the V class and the less expensive Vito. The vito is usually built with 3 to 5 seats for police officers and than with a cell in the back with space for 3 prisoners. The V class version we have is prisoner transport. 6 seat in total. 2 for officers up front and 4 individual seat in the back witch has been cadged in.

    @aaronbehindbars Před 7 lety +4

    You can option the Metris passenger van up with some nice equipment as mentioned in the video. For $43k, you end uo with cruise, backup cam, blindspot detection, lane keep, and plenty of other goodies. I'd kinda rather have that than my half ton pickup and its rwd, turbo, and gets decent mileage. Hmm...

    Paddle shifters because the steering wheel is parts bin and it would cost them more to design a wheel without them than to just leave them in.

    • @davidcd396
      @davidcd396 Před 7 lety

      I don't see why they couldn't cap off the levels rather than installing the same wheel and running the wires, etc. to it.

    • @technom3598
      @technom3598 Před 7 lety +3

      David CD because as crazy as it sounds... it would cost more money to come up with block off plates and delete wiring than just keep everything going

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP Před 7 lety +2

      David CD why cap them off, when it would not only be cheaper to leave them in, but you also get the functionality of having them?

    • @davidcd396
      @davidcd396 Před 7 lety +1

      +Justin Davison Not saying that isn't true, but my base work truck was filled with black caps and those dummy "You should've worked harder" buttons and switches. If there were really no way that would bring down the cost, then the W/T trims would be the more expensive than the top-of-the-line model with everything like the the Platinum models. If Mercedes can't figure out a way to lower the cost by cutting unnecessary equipment, then it's because they're just not trying and passing unnecessary expenses to their customers.

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC Před 7 lety

      David CD it's a different situation. The truck line was designed from the beginning to have the different options and trim levels and the factory is setup for them. In the case it's likely that Mercedes did a cost analysis and determined that it would cost them more for the molds and tooling to make the blanking plates for just one model than to just leave the paddle buttons in. The rest of the infrastructure for the shifting would be there regardless.

    The problem is that the U.S. financially pushed VW out with the chicken tax. There have been no mid-size utility van offerings in the U.S. by U.S. manufacturers. Consumers in the U.S. are only offered family passenger vans or overly tall utility vans that cannot fit in a garage. Van consumers have the problem that they cannot park large utility vans on the street because dictatorial home owners associations place restrictions on van height. Similarly, utility vans are often broken into by thieves for tools/parts. If U.S. manufacturers are going to be absent in producing mid-size vans that will fit in garages, then foreign competition should be allowed back in. The Metris is one of the few mid-size offerings for U.S. consumers just as long as you don't want options like cruise control or other safety features that people outside the U.S. can easily get.

We won't be seeing the very classy and versatile weekend warrior mode 'Marco Polo'. This is also a screw up on Volkswagen part as well not letting us have the Van and the California edition with the pop top tent. So disappointing. Some good news it. While those road wheels are 'serviceable', they are kind of bland. I do think MB could put a little more sparkle in this Van if they used brighter looking wheels.
    On another note, and speaking of brightening things up, why now let Charlotte do more reviews?

      I think there are a few trims above the one in this video. I know I've seen some Metris' with aluminum wheels and body color bumpers etc. (edit - I guess just like this video's thumbnail shown in silver).

      There's an idea. With the 4 cylinder turbo engine it should be interesting, especially in fuel economy and highway power numbers.

      Alan Bowers The company I work for has one at its averages about 23 mpg with aggressive driving and loaded . Highway its goes as high as 34 mpg. Has lot of power and is very very easy to drive and very comfortable.

    $35,000 AND NO CRUISE CONTROL??? ANd yet it has paddle shifters. This van is horrible. It’s a major ripoff for that kind of money. Other than the paddle shifters, it’s got no more features than something built in the 1980’s. Inexcusable.

      It's strange that MB does not sell the V Class in the US. It's a more expensive Metris, but fully loaded and better refined interior. The Metris is the equivalent of the "Vito" sold in Europe, which is just a van.
