No. It's the consumer that was taken for a ride. We're all paying more for phones and cellphone plans that is still basically 4G.

For regular phone user the benefits are not tangible
To me, the example Joanna gave about using 5G for surgery where a surgeon is in one city and the robot doing the surgery in another city doesn't make sense. You would get way faster bandwidth with a LAN connection (wired) Vs. Wireless.
Nothing beats optical fiber.
What if the surgery needs a surgeon who lives in another city. However, LAN or WAN are not suitable for remote control especially instantaneous things like surgery because of latency.
I have always find that example quite weird for 5G because I don't see any advantage compare to connect the doctor and the robot though fiber, in which you can control things like latency and quality of service better than with wireless networks.

Same thoughts after hearing this. I just can’t think of why a robot surgeon would be needed where LAN connection is not available. Other than maybe a remote village in a 3rd world country maybe? But then what’s the probability that village has a robot surgeon and a 5G connection but not wired internet? Seems stupid to even consider surgery as a use case for 5G
As I watched this, I switched my Verizon phone from 5g back to LTE. And it's snappier. I feel more connected. Thanks for reminding me to remove this BS.

Same here. I try to watch a CZcams video and instead get the circle of death (buffering). CZcams even switches to 144p even though my phone has the 5G icon.

That's the problem with journalist, they over estimate things in short term and underestimate them in long term.
'Real' 5g requires a LOT of new towers as you need line of sight to get that 5g signal on your phone.
The harder someone pushes and the bigger the hype, the more you should worry about what it is they're trying to sell you.

I just tell people that 5G was about the carriers. It wasn't about your phone, it was essentially about adding capacity to their existing network, 4g was already fast enough for 99% of everyone's usage.

Much antennas are needed for 5G effective operation in the building area. It's difficult. maybe it will not work as expected. 😍
I have 5g Vodafone UK on my s21 ultra, and I disable the 5g signals as it consumes a lot of battery and the speeds are actually worse where I am. 4g+ I can get 140mbs or more. 5g I get about 8mbs...

The problem with Everyday 5G is that Vanilla LTE had gotten good enough that there is no perceptible difference. Especially sad after dropping a Grand on a new phone and $100 a month on a 5G service. No change except on Speed test. Bamboozled.

There's two things 5G has achieved: higher density of devices (especially IoT) and lower latency (which is easy to test). The significance of the robot is that a Wifi connection has higher latency and a wired connection would be problematic, and either way you have to rely on the hospital's internet access.

Almost all "faster internet" is a waste of money and a lie because the sites you visit are almost all bandwidth limited.
If a site is limited to 30mbps a 250mbps connection will be no faster than a 50mbps one.
Still my 4g phone loads CZcams video instantly now that you lot all "upgraded" to 5g and stopped consuming all the bandwidth.
