  • This PSP 2001 Metallic Blue has suffered a broken battery door latch which no longer allows the door to lock closed. This is an issue most commonly seen on the metallic blue model. Today we’re going to replace the shell with a premium yellow replacement version.
    We reserved some of the original metallic blue parts which not only contributed cosmetic flare but it also reminds us where this console original came from.
    This PSP and other premium consoles are available

    Very solid walkthrough. I used this as a guide to re-shell my PSP 2000. I had to look up another video to figure out how to get the UMD cover off of there, though. You made it look so easy! For anyone else who gets stuck on this, the trick is to give the PSP a slight bend and remove the side near the D-Pad first because the tab on that side is smaller than the tab on the action button side. Thanks for the tutorial!

      Just tried this, UMD hinge broke. After measuring the nubs with a caliper, they protrude the same amount (with negligible difference). Thanks for the misinfo, probably shouldn't make claims like this without verifying it first.

    • @devingrubbs
      @devingrubbs Před rokem +1

      @@jo54763 I literally verified it by trying it myself multiple times, but go ahead and get mad cause you broke yours. Guess it wasn't such a negligible difference after all. Try checking the holes that the nubs go into and you'll understand what I mean.

      I agree, there is no reason to replace the original shell if it's in a good condition as the case with this one. IMO, there is no sense in doing that.

    • @uTubeNoITube
      @uTubeNoITube Před 2 lety +3

      @@Tvv1SteR Aha I didn't read the description until now. Says broken battery door latch. Sadly that was all too common on the blue one. ;( I always forget about that little detail. I tried repairing one of those once with the little piece that snapped off, it's just impossible.

    Maybe its just me but this video glosses over a few important steps, like the metallic panel shield right on top of the motherboard, and putting the screw in with the joystick module. I followed this video step by step and after I was finished, I was left with that panel still not assembled inside. For anyone watching this video, PLEASE watch every single step carefully and with much greater attention to detail so you dont miss anything at all

    Such a professional technician. This is why you guys win my business, if other sellers online could make a video showing how they fix PSPs they would be more successful. I appreciate the transparency of this video. I have a stupid question though. Can you install a Spirited Green body on a PSP 2000? I want that sexy green paint but I don't want scanlines. I was so amazed you guys even change the UMD door chrome, little things like that get to me because I see like new PSPs on sale online that have the UMD door scratched to shit.
    I also have another stupid question. I really liked the feel of the original PSP with the sturdy spring loaded UMD door back in the day. I know the Slim has 64 mb ram and a slightly better screen. Basically is it physically possible at all to install a PSP 2000 64 mb motherboard onto an OG PSP along with the display of the 2000? I would like to own the old chunky model but with the display of the 2000 and the improved motherboard? The reason I get these stupid ideas is clearly you guys are amazing with opening PSPs up and transferring parts like I saw in this video.

    • @Riga89
      @Riga89 Před 3 lety

      I know it's an old video and I'm replying very late but you can now change the screen of the 1000 model with a new IPS screen which is better than all the other models. And for the rest of the hardware no, you cannot install 2000 motherboard into a 1000 but you can simply mod the console and set the full 333Mhz speed through the recovery menu. The games will run perfectly fine and you can obviously install them into a Micro SD card so you can also remove the UMD drive and install a much bigger battery

    I only just recently discovered that if you try to swap out ribbon cables for right or left triggers, even if they came from an already working PSP, they rarely work after reinstalling them in a different PSP. If you take ribbon button strips out of a PSP... You better have new ones on hand or you might end up with a non-working PSP.

    • @eric1krr140
      @eric1krr140 Před rokem

      You bring up an excellent point. There is a chance you can break the very thin and brittle ribbon built onto the flex cable. Usually the connection breaks at the bend going from the action pad to the trigger buttons. Catastrophic damage can occur by yanking out the whole ribbon without heating up the adhesive, treat it like a bomb when removing.

    Nice vid, man, but you’re going way too fast. If this is a tutorial, you should go slower and explain what you’re doing. I’ve found myself pausing and replaying the video more than 200 times in a spawn pf two hours, just because there’s a lot of pieces that are covered for only one frame pf the video. Also, you’re not zooming on the board; it’s very hard to tell what you’re doing a lot of the time.

      Preston Orr It can be many things and hard to diagnosis without seeing it. If it hasn’t been opened for mods or repair already, try resetting to default settings. If that doesn’t work, get a q-tip and clean out the headphone jack port. Sometimes it can get debris in there and make contact with the headphone prongs which makes the psp think there’s headphones plugged in. Those are your options without opening it up to inspect further.
