George Lucas loved the screenplay and even lent the use of his Industrial Light and Magic for the special effects. He had only one condition for approval...No merchandising, thus the merchandising spoofs throughout the movie after the scene with Yogurt's store...Lucas also didn't want the Lone Star character to look like Han Solo, so Brooks had him dress like Indiana Jones instead :D

Spaceball 1's radar operator was played by Michael Winslow who played Larvel Jones in the Police Academy films. He can make all sorts of sounds with his mouth so he was actually making all the radar sounds you hear him do in this movie.

The chapter 11 joke is lost on most young viewers. Chapter 11 is bankruptcy.

You get a triple for the opening scene of Spaceball 1 going by, in reference to not only _Jaws,_ and the Star Destroyer flyover, but also the rather slow flyover of the ore processing facility that the Nostromo is towing in _Alien._ I think it makes the John Hurt cameo even better. 😄
George Lucas declared _Spaceballs_ a dangerous comedy, because it made him laugh so hard he thought he might break something.

Story time! I was 6 when this movie came out and went to see it with a friend’s family. I’d never seen Star Wars and I took the whole thing seriously, and I was terrified! In fact, I had actual nightmares about them threatening to restore the Princess’s nose to its pre-nose-job appearance! My mom was so annoyed 😂😂

There are so many jokes, puns and sight gags going on in this movie that even "older" fans can miss them; I only recently caught on to the uses here of "Wide World of Sports" and "Walk this way" from previous Mel Brooks films or the use of "Eagle 5" on the Winnebago's license plate (referencing Space 1999).

I'm a bit late to the comments but I have a few facts to share about this movie.
Mel Brooks asked George Lucas for permission to make a spoof of Star Wars. Lucas accepted, and gave Brooks permission to use the studio where Star Wars was filmed, but also gave Brooks 2 caveats. The opening story roll looked like the one from Star Wars because it was filmed in Lucas's studio the exact same way. The same is true regarding the models of the ships in space. The 2 caveats Lucas gave were: 1. You are not allowed to sell merchandise for your film, which Brooks made fun of in his movie through Yogurt's merchandising. 2. You cannot have Lone Starr dress like Han Solo, which Brooks made fun of by having him dress like Indiana Jones, aka Harrison Ford. No Spaceballs merch was ever sold so Brooks followed the rules.

@@eliemoses I write this to You to bring You Eternal Hope from far away."The Rapture"- is A Truly Real Future Biblical Christian Worldwide Event in which Millions of Living True Christian Believers shall be "Transported" into Heaven to meet The Creator Of The World/The Maker Of The World/The Lord Himself and they shall be with him Forever and ever. Also in addition to "The Rapture" another Truly Real Future Biblical Christian Worldwide Event called "The First Resurrection" will also take place, which will "Resurrect" All-Dead True Christian Believers and will also "Transport" them into Heaven to meet The Creator Of The World/The Maker Of The World/The Lord Himself and they shall be with him Forever and ever!
"The Rapture" collects All-Living True Christian Believers, while " The First Resurrection" collects All-Dead True Christian Believers. The Dead True Christian Believers shall rise first and then both:The Dead and The Living True Christian Believers shall Together be Transported into Heaven to be Together with The Christian God and to be Rewarded accordingly by The Christian God!
This is not a joke.I have seen "The Signs" and these words are "True and Correct".Remember!Jesus Christ said:“You don’t have to wait for the End.I am right now,Resurrection and Life. The one who believes in me,even though he or she dies, will live. And everyone who lives believing in me does not ultimately die at all.Do you believe this?”

As the ship passes in the beginning, it’s so long that the music is struggling to keep up with it and gets progressively louder. 😂

  • @MGower4465
    @MGower4465 Před 10 měsíci

King Roland says the Princess just passed Jupiter 2. Jupiter 2 was the ship in the TV series Lost in Space.
Barf's costume had three operators. John Candy himself, a stagehand to operate the ears, and another to operate the tail. Zo when Barf tells the diner waitress his tail has a mind of its own, that's literal truth. Three operators were not needed, but Brooks chose three because Lucas used three to operate Jabba the Hutt.
Lucas even gave his blessing to this spoof, but only with the provision that Brooks did no merchandising that might cut in on his own revenue. Thst's why there is a "Spaceballs, the..." for about everything in the middle act. None if it was ever actually produced. Spaceballs the lunchbox is actually a Transformers (g1) product they didn't even alter.

Welcome to the world of Mel Brooks.
I highly recommend Blazing saddles Young Frankenstein, Robin Hood men in tights and Silent movie.
Young Frankenstein is a spoof of three different Frankenstein movies while Men in tights spoof Kevin Costners Robin Hood Prince of thieves and Errol Flynns The adventures of Robin Hood.
Silent movie is full of the big stars from the seventies like Burt Reynolds, James Caan and Liza Minnelli.

Hello Elie. this was a great react. Spaceballs was one of my favorite films. one of my favorite scenes was near the end at the space diner where they re-enact a scene from the 1979 alien with the same actor lol. If you liked space balls I recommend a film from 1986 called "haunted Honeymoon" and if you want another space comedy i recommend 1980 " Galaxina one final recommendation was a film that was almost lost to history. it's called " Old dark house" a very rare film from the 1930's which was almost lost by neglect and negligence if it wasn't for a future famous director(whose name i can't remember right now) who admired and was very close friends with the man who directed it. the same director who created Bride of Frankenstein. it starred several famous actors of the time one being Boris Karloff who never spoke in the film and used facial expressions and body language to express his character's feeling and mood. quite a good film.

The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz.
