Except he did run away initially and only came back bc Elizabeth appealed to his sense of wanting glory by being a hero. People in these comments really don't seem to understand, this man is incredibly selfish. He doesn't help people unless it benefits him or if the risk of losing something isn't that high. He's an asshole to everyone. He manipulates people, and genuinely just doesn't care about almost everyone he knows. He wants glory, riches, and the sea. Those are his true interests. Everything along the way is just a luxury to him. Yeah he changes as the movies go on, but especially in the first couple of films he's really not a good guy at all. "Well he's a pirate" sure but remove that, and he's still just genuinely not a good person.

I noticed Jack always runs away from his fights and problems from fear of losing but takes them head on when he absolutely knows he will lose. He always ran from the kraken the whole movie and chose to fight it when he knew he stood no chance. Idk what it means but I feel like it adds to Jacks character
