I'm so glad A.A. helps people still. I'd like to believe as a Dr he now would be open minded enough to say there are many ways in2022 to get sober including mental illness treatment. We have now how Gos people who give people a medical choice. But I'll always respect A.A. developed in 1935.

By overdiagosing mental illness, and over using medication, and having a horrid mental health system?

Too bad Dr Bob wasn't able to stop his sadistic abuse to his children.I refuse to b.s people by saying what a great person he was.

AA has such a miserablely poor "success rate" (5-8% at best) because it fails address the medical cause of AUD does nothing to treat cravings, which are the primary reason for relapsing.
The whole AA concept was developed a century ago, when little about the cause of AUD and how the brain works was known. Worse yet, as scientific knowledge has grown and better evidence based treatments have developed, AA refuses to evolveand embrace this.
Forced Abstinence is NOT the only way to treat AUD, neither is it the best way. Over time, it triggers the Alcohol Deprivation Effect which makes relapsing almost guaranteed.
Research "The Sinclair Method" a safe, effective reduction treatment method, which has a clinically proven success rate of 78%.

I love AA. Cravings have nothing to do with. Pseudo intellectualism has everything to do with relapse.

I go to meetings, it forces me to think about why I am there. It works for me. Doctors never EVER helped, but a room full of my people sure helps
