Early morning Food Walk at Basavanagudi Gandhi Bazar with 200₹!
We covered famous 5 eateries including Vidyarthi Bhavan , Mahalakshmi Tiffin Room , SLN Mudanna Hotel , Roti Ghar and SLV corner.
    1. Vidyarthi Bhavan - iconic restaurant of Namma Bengaluru!
"Vidyarthi bhavan' - This place requires no introduction!
Since 1943, it has won hearts of everyone and is maintaing the same quality and consistency.
More than everything, two things I really love the most here.
Firstly, the nostalgic feel and childhood memories flashes up as and when you enter and secondly the staff who welcomes you and treats you so well with a big smile on their face.
Dosa asusal crispy on center and soft texture on corner with aloo palya and spicy kai chutney was a killer.
If it is one sentence description, I would say it as a complete heaven.
    Price 63/-
    Location 📍Vidyarthi Bhavan
    goo.gl/maps/biCNddDQPwDYzgis9
    2. Namma SLN / Mudanna Hotel
The essence of the pulav would make you drool. Piping hot pulav served on banana leaf along with chutney is throughly enjoyable in each and every bite and would
make you crave for more. The extra spicy flavour of pulav tickles your taste buds .. However , the topping of ghee balances and enhances the pulav.
Price 30/- for half pulav 5/- for Ghee
    Location 📍 Namma SLN
    goo.gl/maps/HuKeqEzjd9vDGgoS8
    3. Mahalakshmi Tiffin Room
One of the oldest hotel in the neighbourhood famous among localites for their South Indian dishes especially the dosas.
Saagu masala here is definitely a must try.
Chutney is spread across the dosa and roasted well with ghee and finally a cup of saagu is poured on the dosa and served along with a slightly spicy chutney.
    Do give it a try.
    Price 60/-
    Location 📍Mahalakshmi Tiffin Room
    goo.gl/maps/2wB6r3krmubmKTJ16
    4. Roti Ghar
Roti Ghar is well known for its Badam Halwa.
This sweet is rich in ghee, any person who like sweets would definitely love this one.
One piece of Badam Halwa is priced at 30₹ can be tried when you are in and around Basavangudi.
    Price 30/-
    Location 📍Roti Ghar
    goo.gl/maps/CkNqP3FbV6zF2A628
    5. SLV Corner
So the last and final place is SLV Corner for their beautiful strong Filter coffee.
Made by Mr.Govindraju Who believes making customers happy is God work and serves each customer with an extra smile on his face and not to forget he is Sahasa Simha Dr.Vishnuvardhan Fan.
Coffee will be so hot , minimum it takes around 10 minutes to finish one glass of coffee.
Must try for Hard core Coffee Fans!
    Price
    Half 12/-
    Full 20/-
    Location 📍SLV Corner

The hype around Vidyarthi Bhavan’s dose is really silly. 1 they wait until they get orders at least minimum 15 and then they start the dosa process , 2 the chutney ( probably is a personal preference ) poured all over the dos is extremely difficult to eat as the dosa becomes soggy. 3. Gandhi bazar is extremely crowded esp in the by lanes of Satish stores which are encroached by the flower vendors even though there is a flower market near by …. And to add to is vidyarthi bhavan queue, just irritates the whole process. The only saving grace is that they at least provide seating which is good .

Since 1970 I have eaten Dose in the Vidhyarthi bhavan many times. , I never found it to be great as some of the people express. The dose of MTR prepared with ghee tasted better. In those days we preferred MTR dose to Vidhyarthi bhavan. The hype is unwanted.

I wish I had seen this before going. I just returned from vidyarthi Bhavan n realised it is overhyped. Didn’t find anything special, rather the dosa in Udupis r better. It should not be promoted as a special one to visit owing to how old it is. It also has to live up to it. And with queue and wait time, wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

In my very humble view..VB has history...but the taste is overhyped. A mere ghee laden crisp dosa doesn't make it a wholesome masake dose. There are far better and tastier dosa hotels in town

It is like comparing Taj Mahal to regular buildings. The thing is for us , the old Bengalurians and specifically Basavagudi folks visiting Vidyarthi Bhavan at least once in a while is like visiting Kashi by a religious Hindu. Nothing beats VB. I have been eating there since late 60s.

I was also under assumption that it would taste really good, but after eating for first time with almost 30 mins wait period, I felt seriously? I feel pity for those who strive for this dosas.... Come on this is just a regular dosa bathing in ghee thats it..... Those who say we are eating here from 80s and all, i can feel that you had worst cook at your home......
Bottom line, I am not against the place, but not worthy the way people hype it like en tastoooo sakkhat magaaa......

If you get to see the kitchens of most restaurants, you'd probable think twice at eating at those places, no matter how likes it has on YT.
On the same lines, if the food you eat is visible advertised in an unhygienic way, like stacking of dosa plates or thalis, is again a big set off..
