    As a kid, i used to go with my dad to work, at the time he was a trucker so as the child that i was, i happened to look up from my Gameboy Advanced and at my dad, asking "When is he gonna sing?" He just looked at me and said "He already is" and after i grew up, he passed i realised what he ment. He is the reason i will never forget how amazing Gary truly was.

      Lots of guitarists had a very huge feeling on his playing. But no one comes as close as Gary did. He used more emotive and expressive resources than any other guitarist has done to this day. And lets not even start with his beautiful and intelligent note choice. He was the most soulful guitarist, at least in my humble opinion, and nothings gonna change my mind. Not even Gilmour, Friedman, Buchanan, Beck, even tho I love and admire their feeling and emotion, they cant touch Gary.

    • @That70sGuitarist
      @That70sGuitarist Před 20 dny +1

      @@Racoldgin Yes, he certainly did! Any player worth his salt learns as much as he can about modes, because they unlock so much more of the instrument's potential. As a great player and even better teacher once told me, "If music really is a universal language, music theory is its grammar."
      I can never quite remember the names of all the modes, but I definitely put in the effort to learn them. Over and above the basic major scale, each mode is simply a related scale based around a given position *within* that major scale, be it 2nd, 3rd, 4th et cetera. For example, the intervals of a minor scale (based around the 6th note of the major root) will be 212-2122.
      More importantly, Gary Moore knew how to play very emotive passages, while making it look as easy as could be. That set him apart from a whole plethora of shredders, and made him a much-loved star.
      RIP, Gary...you were a true master.

      Gary Moore wasn't nearly as underrated as some incredibly talented players I could name. Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush were a massive big deal during the 1970s, but when the music video era came along, they just got lost in the shuffle, somehow, and its a darn shame, too.
      Some folks like to claim that Frank Marino was a "Hendrix imitator," but if you really check out his body of work, you'll soon find that he went very far beyond what Jimi did. "Dragonfly" was one of their biggest hits back in the day...check it out, you just might learn to love and appreciate them.😉

    Gary is one of the few musicians who can play a beautiful masterpiece using only a small handful of notes. I've learned many songs on guitar and piano and I can say without a doubt that this song has a lot of feeling. As I play this song I am reminded of the most emotional times in my life. It's difficult to explain but this song feels very similar to the solo in The Embalmer by Buckethead Live Version(just skip the chorus and go straight to the solo) but also Lacrimosa by Mozart. I have the same feelings when I play these 3 songs.

And Rolling Stone magazine can eff off not even putting this legend in their 100 best guitarists!!..I mean really?? Rest easy Mr Moore.🤘

    This song is nothing short of amazing. When you listen to the Still Got The Blues record this song almost feels like a sneak peek of what was to come. Furthermore I wish I could’ve seen Gary in concert before he died. I live in the USA and sadly he never took off in popularity in America outside of the Still Got the Blues record and that’s probably why he never chose to tour here. R.I.P Gary Moore. The music will live forever.

    I remember playing this song one day when my mother was alive, she'd never heard it before, didn't know the name or the artist, but she commented 'That's a sad song...'. It's amazing how, even just with musical - non-vocal/verbal - notes, played in a certain order and different intonations - distinct emotions can still be conveyed.
