      Quite late response, but from my experience there is no strict definition for these terms. Different universities and companies can have a different understanding of the same term.
      But I personally would say that computational science sounds very brought, and it could apply to many disciplines like physics, chemistry, engineering or even finance. On the other hand computational machanics is more specific, focusing for example on finite element simulations and the like. :)

    im in the last year of msc in structural engineering. im am not good in programming that much however if i study a bit may i apply for a computational engineering position? it seems like a curriculum etc overlap a lot so most of the knowledge should be there.

    • @EngineeringGoneWild
      @EngineeringGoneWild  Před rokem +2

      You can definitely apply for a computational engineering position! Computational engineering definitely plays a big role in the field of structural engineering. I would say knowing some programming like Fortran or C++ will be helpful, but understanding the theory behind finite element method and other numerical methods as well as knowing how to apply them are more essential.

    My university's Structural engineering program covers a lot of these subjects. Would a bachelors in civil engineering followed by a masters in structural be able to open the door into doing FEA and CFD in other industries? I know quite a few graduates get jobs in the offshore wind turbine industry.
