Danger was actually his solo debut, and he was the first SM artist from an active group to debut solo too. it was the only song/concept that was chosen by his company, Taemin himself wanted Ace (a b-side from the same album) to be the the title track. he doesnt like the production of Danger very much, but it's dear to him because it's his debut. after that he has been choosing everything himself.
its cool how you noticed that he uses feathers in his outfits, there's actually a quote that Taemin likes from the book Demian (it was also in his bio on insta).
"The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies to God. That God's name is Abraxas."
it's speculated that Taemin with his feather hat in Guilty represented Abraxas, and Guilty MV as a whole kinda represents this quote

Danger is his debut song as a solo artist when he was barely 21 years old. He was the 1st SM soloist to debut.. That is a historic moment for SM. Taemin debuted too young both as a group and as a soloist. Many years later he was followed by his peers Baekhyun, Kai, Key, Taeyong, Ten... who debuted as older soloists at approximately 27 years old. It is also curious that Taemin is the senior of all EXO, because he debuted with Shinee 4 years before them, but in reality many EXO members are older than Taemin. It's crazy that taemin started too young. That's why Taemin has a wide and extensive discography, while the others are playing catch-up. Thanks to this and his talent, Taemin was nicknamed the ACE of SM and music critics call him the king of kpop or the ace of kpop and also the "Idol of Idols" due to his musical impact and artistic quality on many other artists who They cite him as their role model constantly. As the years passed his artistry evolved into something more complex and no one can compare to him.

Taemin is built differently. Taemin is a complex artist in the good sense of the word. His art is complex and requires much analysis. He does not make commercial music, he likes to experiment and mix musical genres, that is why he is unique and different from everything that the classical music industry offers you. Don't expect to understand the meaning of his lyrics at first glance, because they are very deep. IDEA has a lot to do with Plato's Greek philosophy, only that way you can understand. Want is related to the book Genesis of the Bible. Danger is his debut song as a solo artist, at the age of 21. A song that is too iconic to this day.

"Danger" is Taemin's first single off his solo debut album Ace from 2014, so this was Taemin when he was 21 years old. (Yes, Taemin will have his 10th anniversary as a solo artist this year.) If you think he was amazing in the MV, just wait until you see it live. You need to see him perform "Danger" at SHINee's SHINee World Concert 2014 in Japan, czcams.com/video/aNNM4fh7ekA/video.html.
"That looks dangerous ... ," And Taemin says: "Well good, because that's exactly what it's supposed to look like. The song is called "Danger," LOL It's supposed to have that bad-boy dangerous vibe to fit the song. A lot of people who are into piercings have their nose and ear pierced, it's not like he is the first person to ever wear a chain on his nose. (Remember Baekhyun from EXO wore a chain from his ear to his lip in EXO's "Monster" MV? It's just a fashion choice to make them look more like they aren't afraid to live dangerously, etc.)
The fact that Taemin's first solo single was called "Danger" actually fits his personality well because he is known for loving to push boundaries and do things that some people may consider dangerous. The SHINee members are constantly having to tell Taemin to be careful and to not do things because it's too dangerous, etc. Taemin loves to make people nervous and live on the edge. :D
As you can see from "Danger," Taemin's nickname is the Korean Michael Jackson for a reason. The concept for "Danger" was supposed to give you that MJ feel. That's why this was his debut single instead of the album's title track "Ace."
Michael Jackson has been one of Taemin's idols since he was a little boy. Believe me, it is not lost on him, SM or, least of all, fans, that he dances like Michael Jackson. But that's not the only reason why he is considered the Korean MJ. Taemin just has something special and his whole aura and being on stage radiates awe inspiring magnificence. He just embodies what it means to be a performer, similar to what made MJ so unique, special and legendary. If you want to really see Taemin pay tribute to Michael Jackson, just search "Taemin and Michael Jackson" or "SHINee and Michael Jackson" on CZcams. There are several clips of multiple performances where Taemin and SHINee have performed tribute dances and participated in performances with Michael Jackson songs.
Prior to becoming a trainee at the age of 11, Taemin had no formal dance training. He started out as a self-taught popper and locker who learned to dance by copying dancers on TV, and, even then, as a trainee it was clear his skills as a dancer went far beyond the average dancer. He said he thought dancers like Kpop solo artist Bi Rain and Michael Jackson were cool, so he would try and copy their moves. He debuted as the main dancer of SHINee in 2008 at the age of 14 -- so he had about 3 years of training as a dancer once he became a trainee.
Therefore, most of what you see is just natural talent and an unbelievable amount of dedication. Taemin has put in a lot of effort to become the magnificent and unique performer and person that we know him as today. But there really is no one that pushes him or holds him to a higher standard than himself. He has said that he really has never taken a true vacation since he was a trainee and he doesn't know what to do if he isn't constantly working and training.
This dance was choreographed by Ian Eastwood, a well known young American choreographer, who I believe is right around the same age as Taemin -- this was Ian's first Kpop collaboration -- and I am sure he choreographed this dance to fit Taemin's natural dance-style not the other way around. Taemin didn't just learn this choreography he merely perfected it LOL. If you enjoyed Taemin's dancing, you should check out his dance practice video for "Danger", you will get to see Ian actually teaching a little of the choreography and Taemin and him dancing together.
Also, check out an interview with Ian on Steezy's CZcams Channel, "SHINee Choreographer Reacts to Taemin, SHINee ...", to hear what it was like working on this choreography and how impressive he thinks Taemin and SHINee are, etc. He says when he was designing this dance SM kept coming back to him asking him to make it more difficult, and he was worried because he wasn't sure Taemin would be able to sing and pull of the moves. Although, he had no idea how skilled Taemin really was.
However, as you are starting to discover, the way Taemin dances is just the way he moves. His movements are effortless. The more you watch Taemin dance, you will see that no matter who choreographs the dance, it will always be uniquely Taemin. Many choreographers who have worked with him over the years have said that, with Taemin you can't help but allow him to move in whatever way his body takes him. Taemin is art in every sense of the word. :D
It's said that if Taemin's dance looks easy then it's actually really difficult and if it looks extremely difficult then it's even harder than you imagine. No one moves the way he does and even his backup dancers struggle to keep up with him. Choreographers still say he is constantly asking them to make the choreography more difficult and he is never satisfied until the difficulty level is off the charts.
As Taemin has said, there has never been anything that has come easy to him and he has only gotten to where he is today because he has worked hard to accomplish everything. He is constantly pushing himself to become the best of the best in everything he does. Taemin has said, he has worked his entire career to create a style of dance that is unlike anything in the Kpop industry. And I would argue that that now extends to the entire industry of dance.
He's also one of the only idols who have debuted in 3 different Kpop generations -- second generation with SHINee in 2008, third generation as a solo artist in 2014 and now fourth generation as a member of SuperM in 2019.
You should watch some of Taemin's concert documentaries to see just how hard he trains and works. If you search CZcams you will find 2 or 3 from his solo concerts, as well as documentaries/behind the scenes of SHINee's concerts.
Taemin doesn't have to try to grab your attention, he just exudes command of the stage. That is what makes him one of the top performers and why he is so popular. Yes, he has literally been voted one of the top two BEST dancers in all of Kpop by his peers and industry experts. Literally everyone in the Kpop industry looks up to Taemin and idolizes him. He is the idol that most choreographers dream of getting the chance to work with.
"Danger" is timeless. That's kind of what SHINee is known for. As SM's experimental boy group SHINee are trendsetters and trail blazers. They are expected to create songs with styles and sounds that have never been seen or heard before and yet have a timeless appeal. (Just think of SHINee's debut song "Replay," which is considered one of the best debut songs of all time because it's so timeless that it never goes out of style.) And that even translates to the members' solo work. That is what makes SHINee so popular and why they are still one of the top groups and artists in the industry even after more than 15 years.
And, as the other members of SHINee say, "Taemin can wear anything and pull off any look and it always looks good on him."
Taemin's talents are one reason why SHINee are one of the top groups in the industry and why they have such legendary status. SHINee is made up of some of the absolute best singers, dancers and performers in the entire industry. Not only is Taemin an amazing dancer but, as you just heard -- because he is a member of SHINee -- he is also a top tier vocalist, who can sing live while performing intricate choreography like this and sound even better live than the studio recording. With more than 15 years since their debut, they still command one of the top spots and are all active as a group and as soloists.

Congratulations, you’ve now seen the trilogy from Taemin’s Never Gonna Dance Again series. The only one you’ve missed is the prologue, “2 Kids”. The first song of the trilogy is “Criminal”, which has multiple storylines and meanings, but the main concept is based on Stockholm Syndrome. “IDEA” is the second song, which deals with Plato’s Theory of Idea: Form vs Identity…fighting to merge into one true self rather than two halves.
As perfect as this MV appears, Taemin stays not just hungry, but FAMISHED. He never stops perfecting and creating and you’ll notice that with every live performance because they honestly get better and better and better. You’ll think he’s reached perfection and it’s impossible to improve, then he’ll add a dance break and anti-drop and you’ll nearly faint because he’s done it yet again.
Another nifty aspect of IDEA is the female singing “Killing Me”… the man has all of SM Entertainment at his feet who’d be happy to beg for the opportunity to sing those little two-second clips but he just had to prove yet again he’s the Golden Maknae and graced us with the voice of the Queen Herself: BoA. He really is the most loved and spoiled maknae of all time and we love him for it. After all, it’s because he is so lovable and kind that everyone can’t help but spoil him.
The last song of the trilogy is“Advice” and is basically his mic drop to the industry that has tried to conform him into their perfect idea of an idol, telling them to take his own advice and not push him around, that he’s going to stay true to himself. He’ll get tattoos if he wants (“destroying” his torso) - which is why he finally revealed his beautiful hip tattoo…the smeared makeup…androgynous clothing/hair…female backup dancers. No matter what, he’s going to do what he wants and the more they try to stop him, the faster he’ll shut them down.
Btw, these are my opinions and interpretations, based partially on what Taemin has said himself and my own supposition.

Taemin is a self-taught dancer. He began dancing at the age of about 9/10 and learned by emulating the moves of his idols, MJ, Usher, & Rain to name a few. Then he took those moves and developed them into his own unique style. By the time he was 12, he passed one of the SM open, Saturday auditions which are insanely difficulty to pass. In fact, Taemin is only one of 8 dancers to do so. Now, he can learn just about any dance genre and absorb it into his style.
Here is Taemin's SM audition video: czcams.com/video/ivxYp4nZ3aY/video.html (I'm sure you'll be able to pick him out.)
Because MJ was such a popping legend, you can see his influence in Taemin. Just take a look at this very short clip showing why Taemin is considered the most powerful and proficient popper in Kpop: czcams.com/video/Qo18L3_Kc0Y/video.html The man can pop literally each muscle independently down to his fingers. Even his hair seems to have a life of its own. Popping and isolations like that require a lot of strength, force, and energy, yet Taemin seems to do it effortlessly and without even thinking. Every move is so smooth, clean and natural. Now, Onstage, Taemin is a BEAST of a performer: czcams.com/video/UF3_zqHCnSo/video.html

Taemin pronounces Idea the way you hear him saying it in "Idea" because he is pronouncing it like the Greek word idéa, and not like the English pronunciation. The song is based on the Greek philosopher Plato’s theory of Ideas. Plato believed that an "Idea" is an ultimate reality. Every form has an idea, an image, or standard set for it and Plato believed that these ideas were eternal. For example, when talking about a human, everyone has an image of what the ideal type of human is like. According to Plato, once defined that description or thought is constant and never changing.
In "Idea" Taemin is disagreeing with Plato's theory and he is saying that the world is not ruled by one ultimate definition of something or that there isn't only one voice. Taemin is saying he has many voices and thoughts influencing him. If he were to conform to only one way of doing something -- i.e., if he listened to everyone who told him there was only one way to be a Kpop Idol and he needed to do everything the traditional cookiecutter way -- then that would be like killing his spirit and everything that makes him who he is. Hence the lines in the song that say, "Killing me softly."
Fun fact: The female voice you hear saying "Killing me softly" is BoA. She is a solo artist also under SM Entertainment, and she is Taemin's highly respected senior, who debuted with SM in 2000 at the age of 13 and, now after more than 23 years, she is known as one of the senior-most members of the industry. BoA is legend.
Some have said, and I have to agree, that "Idea" is a metaphor for the way Taemin sees his career. He loves what he does, almost to the point of obsession -- like "my messiah" he is drawn to it and can't help worship it -- he practically needs to dance and perform to survive. But, at the same time, it pretty much controls his life. Living as an Idol means everything he does is done in the public eye, and he will never be able to live a normal life -- his "dangerous dream" that is engulfing him and "swallowing him" up. The stress and constant demand for perfection he feels may be slowly "Killing me softly," etc.
I particularly like the verse in "Idea" that says: "The blue light, When you and I face each other, Stained in it, All one's feelings, It's an infinite range, In my world, Most dazzling,The absolute value of you, My my IDEA." These lines seem to be talking about Taemin's fans. SHINee's fan color is pearl aqua, so the blue light you see in the MV and the blue light he talks about in the lyrics of "Idea," makes me think he is referring to the impact and influence the fans have had on everything he has done in his career. And although he loves and appreciates us, it has not come without a few sacrifices and negative aspects as well. The mutual love and respect between Taemin and the fans also has added a lot of extra pressure on him because he always wants to give people his absolute best and he is constantly trying to live up to an impossible standard of self-imposed flawlessness.
"Idea" is the third part of Taemin's Never Gonna Dance Again album, which is part of a trilogy. The story starts out with his prologue "2 Kids," and continues with "Criminal," which is part of Act 1 of the album. "Idea" is part of Act 2 of the album and it brings the whole concept full circle. And now his follow up release "Advice" has become the epilogue to the story.
As mentioned before, Taemin said in an interview: "The two acts put together tell a story. '2 Kids’ is about growing pains and depicts the story prior to the story in the album. You can think of '2 Kids' as a teaser before the movie called 'Never Gonna Dance Again.' Act 1 shows a new side of me. I think it’ll be something you’ve never seen in K-pop before. And Act 2 is the end-all-be-all. It’s the ultimate level of intensity. 'Never Gonna Dance Again’ was originally the name of the concept. Because it doesn’t make sense for me to stop dancing. But I wanted to give a sense of rebellion with the irony of the title.”
This album's whole concept is a metaphor for his life and career. With every release from this album, the concept was designed to be darker then the last. In "2 Kids" he was emotionally and physically beating himself up with regrets. In "Criminal" he was living in a toxic relationship. In "Idea" he takes the theme one step further, and says that even though it was my idea and my plan to live this life, nothing comes without a price, and because of that need for perfection, any chance of being average or living a regular life is pretty much dead. Taemin has sacrificed everything to become the magnificent and unique performer and person that we know him as today.
If you are impressed with Taemin's dancing, just wait until you see his dance practice video for "Idea." You will be even more blown away. You should also see Taemin's "Idea" dance tutorial video where he teaches Haechan from NCT and Ten from WayV/SuperM. the choreography and explains the concept and story behind some of the moves. As I said, Taemin is on a whole other level.

Fun fact: That's not just any female dancer in Taemin's "Want" MV. The girl you see highlighted in the shadows is Yoo JiMin (Karina) who is the leader and main dancer of aespa. She participated in this song as a rookie trainee even before aespa's debut. ("Want" was released in February 2019 and aespa didn't debut until November 2020.) She also participated in some of his live comeback stage performances and she was in his "Want" dance practice video.
"Want" is one of those songs that the lyrics take the song and performance up to the next level. :D As you can see, the lyrics give everything a whole other feel and it helps to explain the images and story you see being told in the MV.
Many people think that "Want" has a vampire vibe, and I can see where some might get the vampire feel from this MV. After all, one of Taemin's nicknames is SHINee's eternal vampire because in some performances and MVs, the way he looks and the aesthetic of the performance gives him a vampire image.
However, in "Want" Taemin is supposed to be portraying Lucifer. That's why he seems to have a love affair with those snakes. (The ones he is holding are real snakes.) And, like Lucifer, he is supposed to be seducing the audience and the girl using his devilish powers, which is why the choreography looks like he is slithering like a snake. The gate you see him standing in front of is supposed to be a representation of "The Gates of Hell " from French artist Auguste Rodin. Taemin is Catholic, and most of his MVs showcase his faith as it tells the story using numerous Biblical references.

The style and aesthetic in "Want" is just the kind of vibe we have all come to expect from Taemin. He has a very sensual/sexy way of moving and, as a soloist, it's kind of his signature thing. That is why all his songs are titles such as "Danger," "Soldier" "Sexuality," "Tiger," "Press Your Number," "Guess Who," "Mystery Lover," "Hypnosis," "Crazy 4 U," "Flame of Love," " Under My Skin," "Thirsty," "Want," "Criminal," etc. or "Ace," "Already", "Door, "Pretty Boy," "Move" "Artistic Groove," "Famous," "Idea," etc. Each song is meant to show you exactly why he is one of the best in the industry even just by their titles. I find it interesting that all of his songs, with the titles alone, tell you exactly what Taemin is all about. If you look at all the titles of his songs, you will see that the titles convey one of two things about him, either painting a picture of his sexy and sensual onstage personality, or they explain his dedication and passion as an artist.
Taemin is very unique and never does the same thing twice, he is constantly switching up his sound and dance style. However, you will see that he always stays true to himself. Many choreographers who have worked with him over the years have said that, with Taemin you can't help but allow him to move in whatever way his body takes him. Taemin is art in every sense of the word. :D
Yes, Taemin is uniquely Taemin. As he has said he has specifically spent his career creating a style of dance that is unlike anything that has ever been done in the Kpop industry and sets him apart from anyone else. So you are exactly right, the way he dances is nothing like you have ever seen and will be like nothing anyone else does unless they are trying to copy or emulate Taemin's style.

"Want" is a retelling of the Bible's Genesis 3 account of the serpent (which was the ancient Near Eastern symbol for a divine throne guardian -- because Eden was considered God's temple on earth where heaven and earth overlapped) tempting Eve, and subsequently Adam, initiating the downfall of humanity with the result of death entering the world. It was the first of 3 actual rebellions. Throughout the entire MV, you can piece the story together through both the visual symbolism and the lyrics. Of course, you also must understand the Bible in it's ancient Near East linguistic, cultural, and historical context in order to understand it. Taemin, being a Catholic, would have a greater understanding of this than Protestants unless it is studied in those contexts. Unfortunately, most churches only teach human traditions from church fathers such as Augustine, which are FAR removed from the knowledge and beliefs of the ancient Israelites. The ending leaves us with a choice: We can be like Taemin dancing to the Rodin's famous "Gates of Hell" sculpture, or like Taemin being washed clean in holy water. It's totally our choice to make.

Taemin is known for his popping, locking and ticking. He is considered an expert at being able to isolate every muscle and joint in his body and move each part of his body independently. "Rizz" is a pop culture term that means charisma and it describes a person's ability to charm people and make them fall for them, etc. Therefore, in his song Taemin is talking about how he has the "Rizzness" to make you pay attention to him. He is supposed to give off this "unsettled" or "creepy" feeling because it matches the theme of his songs and the story that he is telling in the MV. Everything he does is designed to enhance the story or message in the song.
What you see Taemin doing in "Rizzness," as well as any of his dances, is considered to be an elite level as a dancer. It isn't weird if you know anything about dancing. He specifically designs his dances to show off these skills. I don't think dancers would ever call him weird. ;) Maybe unbelievable or crazy skilled and awe inspiring. But not weird.

The aim of a performance video is exactly to focus on the performance itself. Dance, voice. And visual. But mainly showcases the choreography.

Other Taemin MV's you haven't seen yet:
*I'll put an asterisk next to title tracks, the others are extra (lower budget) videos for b-sides, though some of those are fantastic too (ex. The rizness)
    Ace
    Press Your number*
    Drip Drop
    Sayonara Hitori*
    Flame of love*
    Thirsty
    Day and night
Under my skin* (Ballad - live with the lyrics is better than the MV in this case)
    Famous*
    2 kids

As a vocalist he loves playing with his vocals and learning new techniques. Taemin seems to make timeless music and always gives us something different and yet it's still Taemin. The Rizzness lyrics are not want people think it's about being true to yourself and he seems to be dancing two characters (White and Black), also is he making fun of the word rizzness? Many of his title tracks have double meanings such as Want, Criminal and Guilty. His ability to create these double meanings really makes him stand out. All his dance practices are worth checking out as so much is missing in the MVs and in his live stages he really shines! All members of Shinee extremely talented, all so different yet when they come together as SHINee -- For me at least the Best Performance Kings -Live stages, live vocals!!!

Taemin is an awesome artist. Known for his dancing, his styles are pure Taemin. Stop saying weird, there nothing weird about his style, his voice, his wardrobe, his moves, the music....I know you DON'T want to say "sexy" so I'll say it...he's SEXY AF. Yep, we been knew young man...where were YOU 10 years ago when we were soaking in Taemin's artistry and loving every minute, no questions asked....
You sure like to ask weird questions instead of just watching...."what is that on his face? What is happening?" IDK!
I don't care....I'm busy watching! You have the need to say something when things get sensual, or "weird" as you say.
And what is it about dancing with your arms or feet? That takes more control than fast hype bouncing around or jumping and stomping hard every 3 seconds in a choreo, which looks intense and tiring....like some Nct, but more Bts, Ateez, Stray Kids style, which for me have become highly overrated and bordering on boring and expected...trying to invent new moves, or hit you with in the face with shock oversexy moves and abs...come on, that's not sexy...that's expected....I guess it's good for the young girlies out there drooling....
All these hype new songs by these younger groups are trying to one up each other, but I prefer vocals. Some of these mvs nowadays are overproduced and pretentious just because of the choreo alone, losing the gist of the song.
Taemin melds everything together nicely in my opinion, like you said, clean and smooth...and that's the point. That's what makes him a fantastic performer, and an A+ artist within the whole industry.
He's been at it for a while and knows how to do it. 💙🌺

he wasn't trying to insult Taemin's dancing, he just couldn't find the right words to explain his thoughts... there's no need for you to be so impolite and insult other groups or what kind of things people may enjoy. At the end of the day he's still enjoying Taemin's artistry. Also there's nothing inherently wrong with asking questions, he's stated multiple times that he loves watching dance practices, even more than MVs sometimes, and he's asking questions because he wants to LEARN. You could have chosen to comment about the dance styles Taemin specialises in (popping, locking, some boogaloo and funk rooted influences) and said your preference for these styles without putting other people down. Dance is a sport, it will always be intense and tiring if you're giving a performance, regardless of dance style. If you don't like all of the 'weird questions' then just stick to watching the original videos by yourself :/

      @kyungsoosings2362 Před 4 měsíci +1

@elys-anne8066 HEY, my opinion. No dissing ANYONE. Over the past few years that is what it boils down to when I SEE the tiring choreo nowadays, MY OPINION. When I enjoy something, I SAY IT. If it's not appealing to me, I say so and why. Again, MY opinion. I don't have to sugar coat what I see and think.
And him asking questions is more of an annoyance and unexpected....yes, it was a mistake to watch his reaction, I should've have known, because I have been avoiding his reactions lately because of his talking.. yep, my bad.
He's already watched some Taemin, but if you gonna bring up his dancing and music as different from more hype dancing, why? Just enjoy what you are watching. But it's his opinion.
I was going to mention the style Taemin is known for, but sorry, he was irritating me already.
And my take on the hype dancing? Like I said, for me it's starting to feel expected...no diss. I've been into kpop since 2006, so that's just how I feel now. My opinion.
Lesson learned...too many reactors I could be watching otherwise. And they don't even have to like Taemin, ask questions later....but it's his channel, his reaction.

Idol of Idols, king k-pop.
Famous, Black rose ( stage)

Danger is his debut song as a solo artist when he was barely 21 years old. He was the 1st SM soloist to debut.. That is a historic moment for SM. Taemin debuted too young both as a group and as a soloist. Many years later he was followed by his peers Baekhyun, Kai, Key, Taeyong, Ten, suho, onew, taeyeon etc.. who debuted as older soloists at approximately 27 years old. It is also curious that Taemin is the senior or sunbae of all EXO, because he debuted with Shinee 4 years before them, but in reality many EXO members are older than Taemin.
