- The state of Tennessee says a Navy veteran who has lived in the U.S. for more than seven decades is not an American citizen and has canceled his driver's license.
If you grew up here, lived here 70 years, paid taxes, fought in the military, married and had a family, then the state of Tennessee can take a flying fuck.

I am a naturalized citizen who went thru honest process and so does him who was born in Canada and came to the US when he was a child who had stupid parents who didn't apply him for citizenship when they became naturalized thinking that it would be automatic for him to become a citizen. Liberalism is impedement to intellectual capacity to use. The problem with this man is he cannot accept the fact that he is not a citizen. As per video, all his DL from liberal States were "temporary" with different codes. Then TN busted him when he applied for the "real one" because all he got from other different states were for "non-citizen" DL. He could not provide citizenship as a requirement for the "real ID". When i applied for my DL, i had to bring my "naturalized citizenship certificate" given after the oath taking. All the things that are now commonplace to register a child as a US citizen when they’re born in another country were not in place when this man was born! Those of you who are saying it is easy, we’re not born in the 1940s and have no understanding how much life has changed since then. That is the major issue here. Rather than telling him he is not a US citizen, his home state should be telling him what he needs to do to resolve this issue. It did for me. I was born in 52, always renewed my drivers license with no problems for 50 years. Then the most recent renewal was bonkers. I go in, they tell me that in order to get a "Real ID" drivers license, I need to bring in birth certificate and two other forms like a utility bill, Social security Card, with my name. So I do. She took all of 5 seconds to tell me NO. I asked why, and said that the name on my utility bill and social security card did not match the birth certificate.
I'll use the following name just as an example. Say you always went by the name TOM. However, the birth certificate says THOMAS. Well, in DMV considers that a disqualification and they will not give you a Real ID. It sucks, but that is basically what they told me. So if your BC says THOMAS, and your social security card says TOM, you are screwed. Thank goodness a lady there felt sorry for me and they finally gave me my Real ID drivers license. My guess, is that I will have to go through the same crap again come renewal time. NOT looking forward to it.

She went to school here in the U S, trained as a hairdresser, started a business, married, bought a home, paid taxes, had 2 children.
Her husband was ill with COPD, and cancer but her friends wanted her to join them on a weekend to Canada. So she, now in her 60's applied for a passport.
After years of paying taxes etc, she was told she was NOT a U S. Citizen. Her parents were both Americans but she was not having been born in Canada ! Worse yet, her husband was dying and she was told she would be deported !
A year plus long battle with the courts, immigration. Her son was a sherriff Deputy but no one in law enforcement could help. She was told she had an interview with the Marshall's and depending on the decision she would be deported the day of. She and her son met with the official and it was a lengthy, frightening process. He finally came up with a solution
For her to sign paperwork stating she had no idea who her father was. So sad. But she signed denying her father to protect her family.
Once she told me her story, we found out there were dozens if not hundreds of people in her shoes both Canadians and Americans.
It’s a clerical error and the state of Tennessee is too busy to fix it.
No. Tennessee votes for politicians who say things like "Immigrants are poisoning the blood of this nation!". This is not an error. This guy would not be facing deportation if he had come here LEGALLY.
It is NOT a clerical error. It is the law.
@@slave2apup279 It’s funny how all the comments in this thread keep getting deleted. They are deleting both the pro “kick him out” comments, and the comments about how screwed up our immigration policy is. This censorship does not serve the American people well. It needs to stop.
@@slave2apup279 it's a clerical error dipshit
WELL, IT IS MORE HOW THEY ARE INTERPRETING IT. BOTH PARENTS ARE U.S. CITIZENS BUT HE WAS 'PHYSICALLY' BORN IN CANADA. SOUNDS MORE LIKE A DUAL CITIZEN. EITHER WAY IT IS TOTALY SCREWED UP!
They always taught us growing up in school that if you had American parents, even if you were born somewhere else you still had American citizenship. It's the by blood law.
Most of what they taught us isn’t how it really works. They also said the USA was a democracy, then you learn about the electoral college.
@@BizznessBox That is how it works though.
@@BizznessBox , it's literally stated in the United States' Constitution as such. That's basic high school government knowledge, which every United States high school student has had to take a class in to graduate from high school.
you have to get paperwork filled out to formalize it. you don't just show up and get a cheeseburger and a high five.
@@handlesshouldntdefaulttonames I know but I figured his parents would have taken care of that. If they didn't then why isn't anyone directing him to the paperwork he needs?
Since When does a State get involved in immigration matters?
As a veteran, I'm thankful that this news channel is doing a story on this. It's unfortunate that this family is upset by it. At some point, everyone eventually has a ridiculous situation happen to them if it evolves a government process.
He IS a citizen. This is just pure incompetence.
The question is incompetence by who? His parents probably didn't do what they were supposed to do. He never did anything to make sure he had the documents to prove citizenship. Our elected officials didn't set up a process to prove citizenship until now.
@@markreynolds9888 No; the law changed after he was born.
@@joshuahudson2170 So what? Who is being incompetent here? It's certainly not the TN DMV. They are just applying the law as it is today.
@@markreynolds9888 Citizenship cannot be taken away by passing law. Any that attempts to do so is unconstitutional due to violating the due process clause.
@@joshuahudson2170 No one took away his citizenship. They just refused to issue him a Real ID driver’s license because he didn’t have the documents to prove citizenship. If he ever was a US citizen, he’s still a US citizen.
Pretty apparent that the people that are doing this don't understand the true meaning of citizenship.
toilet red state...
democracy is a foreign concept.
Obviously you don’t have to be a citizen to put your life on the line
born to US parents on foreign soil......he is a citizen.
How stupid can one state be.
Sue the crap out of the State. Call the Institute for Justice and ask for help.
Mind you I’m in my 60s but I recall when I was in service it was said when a child of a citizen is born over seas paperwork has to be filed at the embassy for that child to get an American birth certificate issued and that child would actually hold dual citizenship.
You don't need to be a citizen to get a driver's license ...
This is pathetic!!!
I for one am glad to see a Republican state leading the way against all these foreign invaders. Trump said they are "poisoning the blood of this nation".
You're only upset because he's a white illegal immigrants.
ok. if the gov. says he is not a citizen, give hime back EVERY PENNY he paid in his taxes to the Gov.
before you deport him to Canada.
But he's not a citizen of Canada, either. He has no paperwork there of having Canadian citizenship, they think he's American.
He can literally claim to be a sovereign citizen, and he wouldn't be lying.
I was born in the US military on an installation overseas and share dual citizenship. I was raised in the USA and upon reaching the age to join followed in my father’s footsteps. I was deployed at one point and proudly served my country. Years later after becoming a civilian I lost my wallet containing my social security card. I went to the SS administration with my military issued birth certificate. I was told my certificate was no longer valid as a newer version had been issued and for all intents and purposes I was a documented illegal alien and would need to reapply for a new birth certificate which would take up to eight weeks to process, all the while I’m seeing people who speak no English getting assistance without an issue. I very loudly pointed this out and was removed by federal police from the building. I had to call my congressman just to get a replacement card even though the worker could plainly see I had a SS card issued to me. It’s a very sad day in America when a person can serve their country honorably and get treated like a criminal but an illegal gets treated like royalty.
Trumpets who hate our soldiers are behind this !
This incident gives Tennessee a bad name.
Had a bad name to start with and it's NOT going to change in my life time
Nah he's illegal
You're an idjit.@@alexander1902
This is the 4th veteran in 3 yrs with same story
Most people did not know you have to do a naturalization certificate for your kids when you come back to the states. I think he can still apply for it if he has his parents documents.
There is another veteran from New Zealand going through the same thing.
Tennessee. What did you expect? Employees and politicians that don't know the law. Who would have thunk it?😂😂😂
At 77 I'd just drive.
What an insult to a Veteran..
But isn't It good to see the government treats people of all races like crap?
On a more serious note: why didn't news agency mention this very simple process in this broadcast? Why not inform the gentleman with the problem? Did they not know about this process? If not then the news group is incompetent or lazy or merely looking for a sensational headline. Total lack of real investigative journalism.
Federal government outrules state regarding citizenship. This veteran is a citizen.
😂😅 The TN DMV is following Federal law.
Tennessee isn't American.
Hillbilly state full of rednecks and cow patties.
SO AGREE!
😂😂😂
I have a real ID DRIVER LICENSE to renew yesterday and they refuse to renew bc i was born in the US as a foster child with NO FIRST NAME, I've been driving 40 years in the US. Already have a REAL ID which means nothing apparently 😡😡😡
His parents are American citizens so what if he was born in Canada, he is American as apple pie. He served our nation you better give him his license back and make it a real ID
they need to call a congressman.
