this movie is shot very well and its got good lines and ok red hearings but its the themes that stick with me most cause its not a typical horror film as you probably could tell I mean the studio forced some extra killings so they went back and shot some extra minor character deaths after they wrapped shooting months earlier to market it as a slasher after the success of scream as originally only 2 people were going to die cause its based off a non horror book about tragedy and the effect a big mistake can have on people's lives...its sorta an accident some teens get away with doing something that resulted in an accidental murder they did not mean and how it haunts them and karma from that event on their futures and its written by someone whose based it of a true story an thats really the thing the sequel to this film misses...when theres no meaning to it the story falls apart cause these are boring characters on their own...seriously this film is tragic more cause of how everyone thought they would have these dreams come true and after this trauma they all failed in those hopes and ended up back where they started having to face the truth..thats way more real and sad then some spooky unkillable figure coming after you like some ghost story...so fictional...thats not what made this film popular...he embodies the past coming back to haunt you in the first film.but you take away the meaning of the book and the sequel becomes just a generic slasher with jack back brandy and mekhi phifer ....so bad....like don't watch it
We can see where you're coming from... we think we like the original plan for the movie... but the studio stepped smh which sucks... from there on it's not even about the original plan and based off of a book anymore... we will still watch the series because people said we should but we can definitely see where you're coming from... great comment.

Helen deserved to be the final girl, PERIOD. Julie is so bland and did nothing the entire film. Helen had a whole arc! Justice for my girl Helen 😭

She literally fought so hard to survive and did so many things to evade the killer only to get killed in a dumb way with a stupid plot device (there is no way he would have beaten her to the parade). Even when he threw her into a stack of tires she went down fighting.

Did you not recognize Helen? She was in Scream 2 where she also had another great chase scene, she ended up being thrown off the balcony. Sarah Michelle is just great in everything.

Random fact: Helen was supposed to live but the producers wanted more blood, so they changed the ending of her scene. It feels random how she turns around because originally she runs into the crowd and is ok. They changed it and had her turn and die.

There is no blood in Helen's death. Elsa's death was re-shot because there originally wasn't a blood splatter on the door and the studio wanted that. In the original script, Helen hears the chime from the medallion in the alley and that is what causes her to turn around. Her chase scene was also longer with Helen originally running into a dead end and having to back track, passing by the store's back door again which is shown to be ajar hinting that the Fisherman was in the alley. (The same back door that was locked causing Helen to use the dumbwaiter)

Helen Shivers didn't "deserve it". The reason she stops is that she doesn't know where the killer is. He could be behind her or in front of her. And it doesn't matter if she had never stopped, he would have gotten to her anyway because the killer was already in front of her and was just waiting, he had the keys and went out through another door.
Helen fought with all her might until the last moment, the person who most deserved to live was her.
Helen was a real one!!

Ben Willis is the killer. Yes, he was pissed about being run over, but his actual motive is that they interrupted and potentially witnessed him dumping the body of David Egan, whom he holds responsible for the death of his daughter. Hence, why Ray and Julie's guilt is relieved by the end, because they didn't kill an 'innocent' man. They accidentally ran over a murderer.

Saw this movie on VHS a year after it's release, watched this with my family, saw a couple of trailers before the movie started and one of the trailers was GODZILLA 1998, where my dad said, "Cool a new GODZILLA movie".

I always thought the reason that Willis killed Max was because he was actually there the night that he got run over. If Max had stopped and not drove away, that would have delayed or stopped the 4 of them from dumping him in the water.

The most quoted movie has got to be Friday. The nemo joke made me laugh so hard. Great movie reaction. It's a ok movie. React to a movie called deep rising,it's a monster movie.

In the original shooting script, a year after the accident, Barry was shown to be suicidal and Helen was a pill popper. Barry's car chase/wreck after the gym was explained away as him trying to commit suicide and pills were supposed to scatter from Helen's person on the stage during Barry's death which is why the audience holds her back and the police officer doesn't believe her story. There was also another scene that was cut where Helen's mother comes into the room after Helen shatters the mirror and Helen says that she erratically cut her hair and smashed the mirror. Elsa makes a snarky comment about Helen being an attention seeker. Pills were supposed to be on Helen's vanity set.
*Also, the fisherman kills every person who he suspects knows about what happened that night. Max, Elsa, and the Officer were all aware of the events of that night even if they hadn't put 2 and 2 together themselves.

I think it's because Sarah was going back and forth to filmed scenes for this movie and scream 2 she chose to get killed off because she doesn't want to carry the franchise plus she had to film season 2 of buffy the vampire slayer that same year in 1997 plus she met her future husband freddie prinze jr who plays ray but they wasn't a couple until they met again in 2000 and started dating then played two famous couples fred and Velma in scooby 2002 and scooby doo 2 monsters unleashed 2004 they got married the same year the first scooby doo live movie was released in 2002 and had two Biological children a daughter born in 2009 and a son born in 2012

I Know What You Did Last Summer but with different scenarios: Barry Ray Helen Julie Missy Max sees the fisherman unconscious still breathing and Barry plan is turning themselves in and Ray plan is who is driving the car Helen plan is bury the hatchet and Max admitted that he was driving recklessly and hit the fisherman and They talking for few minutes and pick up the fisherman buried him in the cemetery put him to rest and driving on the road Barry regrets drinking and doing a stupid decision and few minutes later the fisherman hook hand emerges from dirt

I remember reading the book to this. The book is drastically different but really good. Whoever checked out the book before must have been a big coffee drinker or used coffee beans cause every time I was reading as soon as I opened the book I smelled coffee or coffee beans lol. Odd at first but liked that smells after bit lol.

It was obvious why the fisherman killed Max, because he wanted to show the group Max wasnt the killer and Max was killed as a warning to the group that the fisherman is coming for them. He showed them Max’s body to toy with them as he got them where he wanted they couldnt run to the police nothing.

Hollywood really tried casting Sarah Michelle Gellar in a lot of slasher films but she denied a lot of them she didn't want to be a typecast she only did this movie and Scream 2 back to back and other movies and she was doing Buffy The Vampire Slayer all at once but her chase scene in this movie is so iconic and how she fight for her life everybody wish she was the final girl and not Julie but Sarah chase scene is often talked about in the horror community her husband is Freddie Prince Jr. Who plays Ray in the movie this movie where they met and they in other movies together but they haven't been doing any acting in years now.
