  • Another life line to your saddle is your latigo. This should be something you check often!
Here’s a quick tutorial on how to correctly tie it and what to look for when it’s incorrectly done.

This video just popped up in my feed again. So I'll point out one other thing, which is that this is not nearly as much of a safety issue for the front cinch latigo as it is for the back cinch billets. In the front, all the stress isn't on that one fold of leather over the rigging D (or C). People do several wraps around the rigging hardware and cinch hardware. Whereas on the back billets, that's it. That one fold is all there is. So it has to be super secure.

Don't agree - have points facing down through The loop and will never come off - (not yet anyway, and I'm 65+)

You're right that the two tails running through the loop isn't a great way to attach a latigo. But in fairness, NO ONE actually does it the way you did it. No one puts the two tails facing toward the horse, and no one runs the tails so that they are pointing up when the latigo is hanging down. Neither of those things makes any sense. If the two tails are facing the horse, then if they started to come loose, you wouldn't know it until the whole thing came apart. And having the tails pointing upward is just stupid. No one would do that either.

It's because martin latigos have the 2 holes on top and 1 hole on the bottom, just about every other company that sells latigos have 1 hole on top and 2 on bottom
