I think I read the shotgun Doc carried at the Ok Corral was a 10 gauge double barrel he borrowed from a shopkeeper.
Our local Cracker Barrel had an original Colt Model 1878 shotgun hanging on the wall, Pietta makes a cool replica of the Colt 12 gauge side-by-side.

Just a fun fact from Georgia. Valdosta Ga. We pronounce it "Val Dah Sta", with an "Ahh" sound, in Georgia.
We Southerners drag our words out! Its more romantic, in the summer heat and humidity. 😅
Great lifetime story though. And the town of Griffin, Ga. Celebrates "Doc Holidays" every year, in his honor!

Amazing job on this one Santee. Doc did live a...very interesting life, and though he wasn't always the hero some movies make him out to be he was still a friend and supporter of Wyatt and honestly as much as Wyatt was believed to have done...questionable things, having that ONE loyal friend was always a good thing.
    Great video.

Growing up watching Gunfight at the OK Corral on TNT or TBS the 90s, Burt Lancaster’s Wyatt tells Kirk Douglas’ Doc “I’m sorry you gave up your practice. Too bad, you were a good dentist.” I always thought Doc replied, while picking up a cup of coffee to sip on, “My patients didn’t like my coffee.”
It wasn’t until I watched it recently as an adult that I realized he said “my patients didn’t like my coughing.” and connected the real humor and reference with his TB

Santee, thank you so much for a great video on Doc Holliday. I went to college with Doc Holliday's nephew in Michigan. He was the great-great-grandson of his sister. His nephew had his Dental certification with him and brought it to class and showed all of us. It was in a multicolored doctor certificate and was very Victorian with the calligraphy. He told me that his great-great-grandmother left Michigan and went to Colorado to bury her brother. He said that his great-great-grandmother came to Michigan in the 1870s. Great episode and thanks for sharing.

In many communities you will find a popular local historical personality with many narratives passed down through an oral tradition but sadly many of those historical stories are just “historical gossip” and lack a proper sense of factual truth. They are interesting stories although not usually accurate in the real historical context. These things must be taken with a “grain of salt” and sometimes a barrel will not do 😉 Thanks Santee for the great content.

Here’s some small paragraphs from my old West and retrofuturism story/series:
‘In the era only known as futures unknown, there been rumored whispers of a unknown dimension which lies outside of the VoidVerse of MidRule.
There are whisperings on the winds breath of the name of that dimension, which is only known as the Westrian Outland far rooms.
On one afternoon at the main building of the liminality research facility, during the researchers lunch break 26 year old researcher and lawman deputy Mercia Hawkins spotted a old video camera in the tray of the vending machine.
Which was just down the hall from the break room.
That was when Mercia was just about to push the button on the vending machine for one of his favorite beverages a apple soda.
The video camera in the tray caught his attention instead.
He bent over and picked up the camera.
The camera had the name Khloah La’Coi written on the side of it and there was a folded map tied to the camera on the other side.
Unknown to Mercia that camera and map would lead him,his father Thomason thatcher who was the sheriff of Faron city and head researcher alongside four others to a remote location in the infinitely vast Atlantemurian sea, that’s also called ocean of the great unknown.
Mercia would soon be pulled into a liminal exploratory mission in the rumored westrian Outland far rooms themselves.
I hope you all really like these paragraphs from my book.

Thanks for doing a video on my favorite character from the old west. I have always been a fan, but Val cemented it when he portrayed Doc. I felt he embodied the character the best and felt that his accent was pretty much spot on for the Georgia aristocracy. I am in the camp of Doc was framed for the stage robbery. Kate was pissed at him and lied to get back at him. I would love to see a video on Confederate Territory of Arizona as well as famous Confederates that came through or lived in Arizona. I found it interesting that the only relative he wrote to during his life was his first cousin Melanie "Mattie" Holiday.
She was the one he was in love with who later entered a Catholic Convent and was known as Sister Melanie.
She was born in 1850 (eight teen months older than Doc) and died in 1939 at the age of 89.
When Doc died a local newspaper wrote this in the article: "“
"He had only one correspondent among his relatives - a cousin, a Sister of Charity, in Atlanta, Georgia. She will be notified of his death, and will in turn advise any other relatives he may have living. Should there be an aged father or mother, they will be pleased to learn that kind and sympathetic hands were about their son in his last hours and he was accorded a Christian Burial."
Reportedly her family had those letters, but years later one of Mattie's sisters burned them as they were of a private nature.
Imagine just how much of a loss to our knowledge of Doc that was !

Doc is one of my favorite characters mostly from Val Kilmer excellent performance in Tombstone. Doc’s real life was equally fascinating and more tragic! Thanks for Sharing this abridged history!
BTW, like Prescott has a local pronunciation so does Valdosta. It is pronounced Val-dah-sta not Val-doe-sta. Living 130 miles almost due west in Dothan Al , pronounced Doe-than not Dot-han, in know despite what the interwebs say.. which bring up a point.
So many people are “experts on what really happened” for events +- 140 years ago based on modern interpretations, tactics and techniques and yes, there where exaggerations and skewed views back then to , that I don’t know if we can ever know for certain what did and didn’t happen.
One of favorites is Wyatt could not have possibly used a 12”barreled Peacemaker because they where never made and it would be too unwieldy for fastdraw! Well Colt doesn’t have a record of such a gun being commissioned, that is true but unlike today every SN didn’t have to be recorded and there is nothing to prevent a gunsmith for commissioning one. The same people stating this say there are not any revolvers with over 7” … except they are. Ruger has a 9” Single Six and 10” SuperBlack Hawk are modern examples. The second hole in this argument is Wyatt wasn’t a practitioner of “fastdraw”, which is mostly a Western movie concept. From what I read and studied he would rather approach someone with pistol drawn but out of sight since he was more likely to “Buffalo” them (hit some over the head with the barrel or butt of the gun to disable them) than shoot them.
Do I believe he had a 12” Buntline Special…not necessarily. I imagine Wyatt stated was “My gun was a foot long” as that would give a better sight radius, as he stressed actually aiming not hip shooting, fanning hammers or other “gimmicks and showboating”, and more weight and leverage for Buffaloing. When it got published “Wyatt carried a 12” barrel gun” he never corrected it because it added to the mystic. “This is the West, sir. When the legend becomes fact, print the legend!”
Thanks for putting up with me wee verbose and rambling response.
    Adios me Amigo!

Wikipedia states (yeah, I know wiki can be inaccurate) that Wyatt possibly used a S&W model 3 at the OK Corral. Given that model's 7" barrel, I guess if you add the cylinder + grip, you could say it was a foot long/12 inches 🤷‍♂️

This channel is on par with a network show. Maybe not in length but quality. However; it’s a talent in itself to take a plethora of information and condense it into such a concise presentation.

A terminally ill drunkard with a passion for cards and violence, and the soul and words of a poet - he's like the classic Irish hero. When Tombstone hit the cinemas years ago I read the famous book on gunfighters, Triggernometry, and I remember the author interviewed the deputy sheriff of Tombstone (played by Jason Priestly in the movie) and he said Johnny Ringo was found dead with no boots on and what he firmly believed was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. They found his horse in the vicinity, with Ringo's boots hanging from the saddle and, according to the deputy, Ringo had a terror of a particular species of highly venomous scorpion which was especially common in the area - he believed Ringo's horse had ambled off with the boots and Ringo was so petrified of the scorpion he felt trapped and took his own life. With that in mind, I would really love to see a video about your scorpions. I know you did some before, and I especially like your nature of the West videos, but here in the northwest of Europe we often don't appreciate the difficult landscape and those kind of details. In many set-bound movies the West is so stagy it's like there's no landscape at all involved, nor wild animals, or poisonous plants or anything else. Sorry for such a long comment - loving the videos!
