I really like the ending it Ties into the weirdness very well. It gave me the impression that she’s experiencing agoraphobia. She really wants to go out and live but comfortable fear ( gruesome chair or anxiety that gives her a breath of release once she gives in and sits) lies between her and her freedom and once she breaks the chair she’s outside. Very cool I really enjoyed this one 👍
Certainly seemed like someone that is depressed and has severe anxiety to me. She has been fighting the demons in her mind, which probably caused the break up with her ex that came knocking (she probably broke up with him and told him a lie to cover up her true condition, and the ex-bf couldn't accept it so he came knocking, further pushing her anxiety and depression). It also caused her to be less focused and very clumsy, which explains her hurting herself and flipping over her noodles. Her condition also makes her very afraid to go out and meet/see people, hence she chose to camp in her home. When she got sick and started coughing, it signifies that her condition is rapidly poisoning her, causing her health to deteriorate. The small hole in her wall seem to foreshadow her escape and subtly hinted that there's always a chance to break free no matter your condition. When she started vomiting body parts, it seem to signify that she was losing the battle with the demons in her mind, and was unconsciously feeding it as well. Then, at the end, she decided to break free, but she realized that the demons were in her way, and initially, the demons in her mind overpowered her willpower, luring her to the "throne of no return". The moment they placed the crown on her, she displayed a face of bliss, which shows that giving up and giving into her demons gave her tranquility as she no longer have to fight it (which is similar to how some people are actually "happy" when trying to commit suicide). However, her mind seemed to snap back at the last moment as she realized she will spiral to the point of no return (signified by the throne grabbing onto her). She managed to summon all her remaining willpower to break free and shatter her inner demons once and for all. This is when she was seen, outside her home, for the first time in a while, she takes in the sunshine and breathes in the fresh air, basically signifying that she has broken free from her depression/anxiety/fear, and has taken a step in the direction of recovery.
andycarollsuarez, That was a very in depth comment. One might say that you have a little working knowledge in sociology and psychology. I think your comment was most excellent.
Man this was amazing. For anyone that suffers from depression and/or anxiety. You can understand this completely especially the part where she feels as if it's holding her. Sometimes it feels like depression or anxiety has such a grip on you. For a moment it seemed like she felt free then it got a hold of her again. Exactly what depression does. But she escaped it.

I think she had a traumatic experience with her attacker/stalker. Either she was beaten or attacked, she thinks staying in her home will keep her from harm but it’s only destroying her mental. Her home and being inside her head is more dangerous than setting foot outdoors. Being outside and living life to the fullest despite her past is the best way to go
It feels like the arms put a crown on her because she's the "queen" of her own body. Then they try to hold her back, which resembles her subconscious and fears, but in the end she masters to break through and overcome her problems and finally be free - Truly inspiring, I love it!
This is why I LOVE Alter, better than paying 50+ for parking, over priced movie snacks, and loud patrons, long drawn out story lines that lead to nothing....need I say no more....👏👏👏👏👏
When I get a call from an unknown number I either avoid it or take many deep breaths before I pick up. I never call if I can avoid it, I only text. If someone rings at the door I just do not open it. Social anxiety is something you oddly cannot explain to people, because they will just tell you to “get over it”, “just do it”, “what is the big deal” and my favorite “it’s high time you grew up”. People who don’t have social anxiety cannot possibly understand what it’s like, regardless of how much you try to explain it to them.
hooked from the opening shot! this was creepy and disturbing, in all the right ways! When she broke the wall and walked towards the chair it reminded me a bit of Lords of Salem.
Poor girl... Glad that she was able to break through "it" in the end... When she felt the wind and the sun on her skin after so long, the look on her face felt like Satisfaction. Satisfaction of fighting and overcoming her guilt. Coming "out" of the "walls" that she had build around to protect herself from all the blames and judgements,(?) (that's how it seemed to me).. Kudos to the actress. Good job 👍🏻
I relate a lot to that video because I've been locked-down at my house for the past 5 months (not that it's mandatory, but I don't want to give the virus to my elder folks), and sometimes you want to break walls, sometimes you wonder if you'll be able to be the social guy you were before, even walking in the street ten minutes a day is strange... just saying, your ALTER videos help me a lot.
@@WatchALTER I think the hard part is that you have to break down the wall over and over again... Looking forward to more stuff from ALTER I enjoyed 100% of the films on this channel so far. 😊
My theory: The woman is agoraphobic (she experiences anxiety/panic attacks when leaving her safe space. She fears being embarrassed or hurt by the outside world) She buys this new apartment to be alone, and possible to run from the man who attempted to break into her house. The apartment is very small and dark. She makes a hole while trying to hang a piece of art. The hole grows larger and strange things happen with said hole. This man is stalking her (I'm assuming.) At the end of it she breaks through the walls of her apartment. The apartment is representative of her mind. Small, dark, and crowded. The outside world scares her (possibly because she's running from someone, something, or something she did in her past.) This may explain the man and his aggressive nature. He represents her wanting to escape this prison she has built for herself. Or maybe he represents her mind's way of keeping her inside. (By scaring her.) She ignores it because she is stuck in this routine and abusive cycle with herself. She starts feeling ill at a point. The walls around her are suffocating. She feels like she is stuck and it makes her nervous/anxious. (Personally when I have a panic attack my throat swells up and it causes me to choke/cough) She gets to a point where she is catering to her mental illness. Treating it like a love, something she must protect. (Unfortunately some people fall so hard and deep into a mental illness they develope a Stockholm Syndrome kinda deal with it.) This is represented by her basically making out with the wall. This situation leads to the circumstances becoming more toxic and harmful. The wall shoving its hand down her throat could be symbolic to self harm. (My mind instantly goes to eating disorders, but you might think of it differently) This behavior is clearly unhealthy, but she laughs through the pain in that moment. Her looking at the cameras symbolizes her looking back at her behavior and realizing its unhealthy. Which causes her to be afraid of herself and this wall. She then understands she has two choices: Run out the front door or discover what is behind that wall. Given the situation I'd think we'd all run out the front door. (Hello, body parts coming out of walls... Not fun.) But she realizes she can't keeping running and hiding from her problem. Shes not helping herself by being isolated. Shes hurting herself because she's pushing this down deeper into her mind. So she grabs a sledge hammer and breaks the wall. What she finds inside is a throne made of hands and body parts. A physical manifestation of her mental illness. At first she is drawn to it, because it is all she's ever known. It entices her with its open arms, like a hug she craves. When she sits on her throne, however, she notices the nails digging into her flesh. She understands that this relationship is toxic, and it will not willingly let her go. She must fight. She then proceedes to rip away fron the throne and smash it with her sledge hammer. She keeps smashing until she breaks the wall leading outside and hits her car. When she breaks out its morning. She has found her light and her freedom from that dark place. She doesn't care about the judging eyes watching her. She knows what shes gone through, and she knows victory is hers. (Disclaimer) This is my personal interpretation of this short film. I am in no way a film expert, or a mental health professional. Things I mentioned in this interpretation (regarding mental health) are things either I have personally experienced and/or someone I know has experienced. For anyone who is struggling with mental health. I know you're tired of hearing this: (but) it does get better. It may not be tomorrow or next week, but it does get better. Mental illness is an illness. Some days it feels like you're on top of the world, and others you'd wish you'd had just stayed a festus in your mother's womb. Theres no timer on mental health. Sometimes it legit seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes good days last months, sometimes they're just a day. I promise you one thing though. You ARE valid. Don't let anyone undermind your struggle because "there are people who have it so much worse." First off you do not need to explain yourself to anyone. (I say this in the context that someone is being insensitive about how you feel, or don't feel. That someone demands you share your problems not cuz they want to help, but they wanna feel like a "hero". And even when you do open up you don't have to force out anything you don't have to.) Secondly you are a unique individual, meaning you have your own way of getting better. For some people that might be meds, others its therapy, meditation, yoga, art, music, science, math. Theres something out there for YOU that will make YOU feel awesome. Not your parents, family, or friends. YOU. This may take time to find, but once you find it you'll know. As long as you're not hurting anyone (that included yourself) I fully support your trail and error. But my opinion shouldn't matter. Because this is about you. Keep being awesome you lovely human, and know that you are loved. And finally, to Alter. Amazing work. My interpretation may not be accurate to your vision for this film. (I might just be a hippie that saw this way too deeply) But your work never ceases to amaze me. Keep being creative and doing awesome things. Much love to everyone from a Professional Weirdo. 💗 (Sorry for any typos, its late and I haven't been to class in nearly a month.)
@@captainobvious8530 I mean, as I stated it was a possibility and that this was my interpretation. Also he keeps calling her and showing up to her place uninvited. To a point where he attempts to break into her house without her consent. Thats creepy stalker like territory. Not saying he is a stalker, but just because he's ex doesn't mean he can't be a stalker. Either way I think we can all agree his behavior is pretty odd and scary. Sorry for any misconceptions my comment may have caused. It was just something I personally saw. 👍👍

Well I think that the house was actually trying to help her. Like, the house showed her a horrific image of what it would be like to be trapped inside forever, which inadvertently showed her that the outside world wasn't as bad as she had it pictured throughout the short.
I feel like she was more than agoraphobic, and there were a few hints that implied that she was a little unhinged, too. The more disturbing actions (trying to put her fallen tooth back in her mouth, just casually having a sledgehammer in her cabinet) kinda makes the moments of not-too-bright actions (drinking cough medicine like water, forgiving her stalker ex) seem more than a bit off.
She didn't try to put the tooth back in her mouth, you can hear it fall to the ground and bounce a couple of times. She just checked if it was her tooth.
As someone else said, she was trying to see if it was her tooth that fell out. And she called the cops on said ex, I'm assuming to get a restraining order. And judging by how aggressing the ex was, I'm gonna go off on a limb and say that he was abusive. Both verbally and physically, hence why she had a sledgehammer just chilling in the cabinet and also might be a cause for her agoraphobia. As for the drinking cough medicine like water, that I don't have an explanation for
I'm not agoraphobic, but when she was sitting by the door almost like she was hiding when they were delivering food, I felt that. I always get super anxious when someone comes to my door.
I kept trying to figure out why the title is 'Stucco" when the interior wall is drywall. The ending explained it all. Anxieties and phobias were conquered.
The girl snapping the picture and the make out scene had me rolling 😂😂 Jokes aside this was a great short. Suffering from panic disorder this one touched home with me.
So many times the pain we know wins out over the fear of the unknown, when so often what is waiting for us is better. Whatever you are facing (or avoiding) in your life, try to remember that the unknown will be scary for a bit, but you will figure it out if you give yourself the opportunity to. Be it agoraphobia, addiction, toxic relationships, or so many of the other things that we get stuck in, the moral of this story rings true. Some fear keeps us safe (like... Fear of wild animals, or having a rainy day fund just in case), but if it isn't serving you, it's time to let if go.

You as you don't you love it? Eat it? Swallow it?
I really like the ending it Ties into the weirdness very well. It gave me the impression that she’s experiencing agoraphobia. She really wants to go out and live but comfortable fear ( gruesome chair or anxiety that gives her a breath of release once she gives in and sits)
lies between her and her freedom and once she breaks the chair she’s outside. Very cool I really enjoyed this one 👍
The fact that this is creepier than any famous horror movies I've ever watched is just 💖💖
Keep it up guys!
You watched some trash ass horror movies then.

Yes thank you because I definitely didn't understand.

andycarollsuarez, That was a very in depth comment. One might say that you have a little working knowledge in sociology and psychology. I think your comment was most excellent.
My question is why does this have any likes when it helped me understand this while other comment s are like WOW
Get over it lol it’s not rare or unique for someone to have anxiety. Literally everyone in the world has experienced it.
@@Hhe448 Duh. But so what. The description of anxiety is still true and the film captures someone suffering from extreme anxiety very well.

@@juliacastro8505 yeah I never said that’s what anxiety or depression is. Also I still stand on what I said. Nothing rare or unique about it and it’s not that serious anyway. I think she had a traumatic experience with her attacker/stalker. Either she was beaten or attacked, she thinks staying in her home will keep her from harm but it’s only destroying her mental. Her home and being inside her head is more dangerous than setting foot outdoors. Being outside and living life to the fullest despite her past is the best way to go
The moral of the story is the following: never scrub blood off rugs that way.
Is it connected with the fact that she refuses to go out? Her fighting the anxiety then destroys it.
We think you're onto something here...
She has defeated her own demons and set herself free
Love this interpretation!
It feels like the arms put a crown on her because she's the "queen" of her own body. Then they try to hold her back, which resembles her subconscious and fears, but in the end she masters to break through and overcome her problems and finally be free - Truly inspiring, I love it!
Just have to say, the design of the throne and crown here are *chef's kiss*

When I get a call from an unknown number I either avoid it or take many deep breaths before I pick up. I never call if I can avoid it, I only text. If someone rings at the door I just do not open it. Social anxiety is something you oddly cannot explain to people, because they will just tell you to “get over it”, “just do it”, “what is the big deal” and my favorite “it’s high time you grew up”. People who don’t have social anxiety cannot possibly understand what it’s like, regardless of how much you try to explain it to them.

3 minutes in and the scariest thing so far is how she tried tackling that stain on the rug. (I'm actually enjoying the subtle unfolding of the story.)
As someone who has dealt with depression and socialanxiety this is a pretty good depiction of how it feels.
We're glad you were able to see truth with the film. We hope the film's ultimate message connected with you as well.
Co-director here. I'm so glad we even got close.

@@janinagavankar415 really looking forward to see more of your work👍
@@janinagavankar415 I hope you direct more stuff, you have a real talent for it. I only knew you as an actress before this. You're awesome at both.
My theory:
The woman is agoraphobic (she experiences anxiety/panic attacks when leaving her safe space. She fears being embarrassed or hurt by the outside world)
She buys this new apartment to be alone, and possible to run from the man who attempted to break into her house.
(Personally when I have a panic attack my throat swells up and it causes me to choke/cough)
She gets to a point where she is catering to her mental illness.
(My mind instantly goes to eating disorders, but you might think of it differently)
This behavior is clearly unhealthy, but she laughs through the pain in that moment.
Not fun.)
But she realizes she can't keeping running and hiding from her problem.
(Disclaimer)
This is my personal interpretation of this short film.
And even when you do open up you don't have to force out anything you don't have to.)
Secondly you are a unique individual, meaning you have your own way of getting better.

Why does this have almost no likes
The guy is obviously her ex and just had a break up. Idk why you insist on him being a stalker.

She just checked if it was her tooth.
when did she forgive the ex? she called the cops..
Indeed! But, I’m not sure if she was trying to put the tooth back, as much as just trying to make sure she wasn’t missing one?
As someone else said, she was trying to see if it was her tooth that fell out. And she called the cops on said ex, I'm assuming to get a restraining order. And judging by how aggressing the ex was, I'm gonna go off on a limb and say that he was abusive. Both verbally and physically, hence why she had a sledgehammer just chilling in the cabinet and also might be a cause for her agoraphobia. As for the drinking cough medicine like water, that I don't have an explanation for
If you ever knock your tooth out, the best thing to do is clean it off and stick it right back in. Seriously.
I'm not agoraphobic, but when she was sitting by the door almost like she was hiding when they were delivering food, I felt that. I always get super anxious when someone comes to my door.
What an underrated piece of art....hope it stays underrated

Jokes aside this was a great short.
