    Thanks!
    This is part 1 of 2 video’s about how to sort your wiring on a motorbike.
    This part explains how to test all the necessary parts to let your motorbike run. Basically you don’t need more than these. Off course you would have to hook them up with your starterswitch, startermotor, engine kill switch and what not. In part 2 I will explain how to hook them up together.
    Here is the link to part 2: • Wiring a motorbike (or...

    Hi, just a footnote if anyone’s interested... An engine’s alternator or stator produces AC current. Kick start bikes & mopeds used 6v AC for years. The ignition, lights horn etc would work using AC. But you can’t store AC electricity... If you can’t store it you can’t have an electric starter. So you need to convert AC to DC by using a rectifier. But AC current increases & decreases with engine RPM. So to smooth this out and make a nice constant voltage you need a regulator. Once you have a nice even voltage in DC form you can use it to charge a battery. Then boom, you have energy stored to hit the starter button & fire the engine up next time you need it.! Plus lights using DC don’t get brighter or dimmer with engine speed... which is handy.

      Ooof... I can't remember anymore. I think the only thing is to change one dot (from eg. 100 to 10). Just see which reading you get and figure out which setting you need and makes the most sense according to the reading. Same goes for volts. You can read: 1.23 Volts and on the other setting it will be 12.3 Volts which makes more sense.

    Hello great video I have a question to ask, I'm in the middle of trying to rewire my Yamaha R6R it was torn up by rodent's but anyway does this simplicity apply to my bake it's a 2007 it is also fuel injected with a electric fuel pump and has O2 sensor also has air flow meter so I'm really confused about the wiring and want to simplify it like yours thank you and again great videos

    • @chiefpepdesign
      @chiefpepdesign  Před 4 lety

      Basically yes and no. The basics should be the same. The TCI would be your boardcomputer and from there there will be plugs going to your injection. But you really need your wiring diagram. And I am afraid you will find that you can't loose a lot of wires since the more modern bikes like yours are allready wired up pretty descent. But the logic is still the same.

    @raymondgarafano8604 Před rokem +1

    Good going! YUP an electrical diagram for motorcycles, can at first look quite daunting,
    BUT if you, YES YOU consider power goes from bat+ thru 1 or more switches, to a load
    like a horn, headlamp then back to -- or ground known as the chassis you can take a pencil
    and follow the path for eadch circuit. If ur working with a Harley D maint. manual grab that
    pair of half-glasses that is laying around you will need them to make out the letters for wire
    color codes, ask me how I know. Starter solenoid primary and secondary? NOPE Primary and secondary refer to the eindings in an ignition coil, magneto or regular tranformer as for the
    electric utility company, your old train set, BUT no primary winding, just a winding whose
    magnetic field operates a pair of heavy contacts. This is 1 type of starter solenoid, the other
    type is larger, does the same thing AND mechanically pushes or pulls the starter pinion gear
    out to mesh with the ring gear either on flywheel or cluutch bundle.
    If a Stator has three wires it is a 3 phase stator like nthe stator in an automobile alternator.
    2 wires is a sinple phase job.

    Hi! Great channel! I am just wondering, is this map and build similar for all Japanese motorbikes, except the wire colors and some connections? I am wiring a Honda GB250 (1989) and there are some differences (Less wires come from my R/R and 4 wires coming from my ignition key for example) but I am hoping this build is mostly similar.

    • @chiefpepdesign
      @chiefpepdesign  Před 4 lety

      For sure. The whole scheme is basically the same. The units work the same. Best is to have your original wiring diagram at hand so you can always figure out which wire was going where. And you can compare it. More wires to your ignition key has probably got to do something with parking lights. And try to make a same scheme as I made. Delete all the central wires and draw new ones one by one like I did. If you do that first, you are allready teaching yourself what you will be doing in practice.

    problems. When the engine speed rpm is high it stalls (bogs). In the beginning
    looked like fuel supply but is not. Carbs are restored, cleaned and synchronized.
    I double check it. I believe it is an electrical issue. I tested the coils,

    engine electrically.
    Any ideas of what might be?

    • @chiefpepdesign
      @chiefpepdesign  Před 4 lety +2

      No unfortunately. Impossible to tell. Could be a shortcircuit somewhere. Could could try to lift up the harnass here and there during the high revs. Maybe it helps and you could tell where it's coming from. If an electrical issue is the cause... Have you checked the condition of your sparkplug caps and the wires in there? You could cut a small end of the wires and screw them back on. Often the wire in there is a bit dodgy.

      Are your wires thick enough? Do you have a very solid ground as I mention in most video's? But what is the problem? Doesn't starter motor turn or...?

      absurity Are there no more coming out? Always compare the wires with what you had and try to follow which goes where. I will discuss the wiring in part 2. I'll try to do so as soon as possible. In the meantime search on the Viragotechforum. For sure you find your answer there!

      Chiefpep I couldn’t find anything on the virago tech forum. In the manual, the 81-83 has brown to a main switch, red to battery. 84-on, it just has red to battery. So, it doesn’t have the main switch.

    • @chiefpepdesign
      @chiefpepdesign  Před 6 lety +1

      Then only use permanent red... Make sure you ground your R/R really well. It doesn't get fed by seperate ground/negative...
