You, sir, are a real man, using that truck for what it was meant for and keeping it going all these years. Excellent story. From one die hard Ford guy to another, you have my respect.
Good Morning rinos88,
Thanks for your note and kind words. Great to hear from you. What sort of Ford do you have?
Take care and thanks for watching.
Steve
Steve Maxwell I've currently got a a 2006 5.4 F150 4x4 and a highly modified 2002 Mustang GT, while my wife has a 2001 5.4 Expedition and a 1985 Mustang LX. I'm 37 and have been driving a long list of Fords since I was 16. It's awesome to hear the story of a hard working family man who is also a Ford fan. Also, congratulations on your newest family member, Ellie. My wife is from Kenya, East Africa. I met her doing missionary work.
Thanks for your kind words. Great to hear from you. I appreciate you watching.
Take care,
Steve
When youre a chevy fanboy but its a good video so you like it
im a chevy guy but I also like Fords and Dodges this was a great videp
yupitellwhut I wish there were more people like you. I’m a ford guy but I am a huge fan of Chevys and somewhat dodges.
Ford and chevy are the best!
Same man Same!
I like all 3 there cool
Plus the body style of these old trucks look great as well.
You bet, much better than those out today.
Tommy Truth the new ones look the way they look for aerodynamics for better gas mileage i still feel like 1996 was Ford last good looking truck.
The best story on youtube by far. Your example for a way of life is something we all can benefit and learn from. God bless you and your family Steve.

Well! Thank you very much. Those are very nice words. We're very grateful for our life here on Manitoulin Island, and it just keeps getting better. It's a wonderful place to live. We're lucky to have found it back in 1985.
Take care and thanks for watching!
Steve
9" thick stone walls, that's legit bullet proof
Interesting story! I have owned my 1994 since new.. 268,000 miles later she is still going strong. Body got petty rusty due to Iowa road salt in the winter, so a couple years ago I fixed her all up. Best darn truck I could have ever asked for and she has never let me down.
My fathers 2006 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 with a 4.7 V8 has 263,000 miles on it and even thought it’s a Japanese viecle he still loves his truck.
Got me beat mine (94 longbed) has 186k.
Hey surprised to see you here
+The Fox Shop - Your channel is cool, John!
my 95 has over 360k
needed a tranny rebuild, and some small stuff. otherwise no rust or major damage. good to be in Texas
I’ve watched millions of videos this by far and is the best video on CZcams. Thank you Steve
great story, I hope I can have the same thing with my 1978 F150 Ranger XLT supercab. I bought it when I was a week from turning 16 in 2015 for $600 with only 86,000miles on it it was in rough shape but I'm in the middle of restoring it. It was my first vehicle and I love it. (for those wondering it had a 351M 2 barrel carb (now a 4 barrel with new cam, aftermarket timing chain, and long block crate motor still a 351M) a C6 transmission and its 2 wheel drive). It's my pride and joy.
great to see a truck being not only preserved beautifully but also being used as a truck. Bravo!
yeah so many people buy pickups today and dont haul or tow anything with them
Kevin Jablonski true that
Kevin Jablonski Exactly man and a lot of modern trucks are made out of plastic just like modern cars are.
Today trucks are overpriced and cheaper makes
Ricky Davis Yep Amen Brother.
oh my gosh....I've felt emotional connections to my own vehicles sometimes but never to someone else's! Terrific story!
You sir, are living the dream... I'm greatly inspired by your hard work and by how deeply one can tell you love your family. This video hit home to me for those above reasons. Recently my beautiful wife of two years got into a small accident while driving my Silverado of 10 years. She called me sobbing, knowing how much I loved my truck :) My Silverado has been faithful...But God has blessed me infinitely more with the faithfulness and steadiness of a hard-working, loving wife! I hope to build our own Post and Beam farmhouse one day. Thanks for the inspiration!
Sorry about your Silverado, but the FAR more important thing is your wife is okay. Count your blessings.
This is the best video I've seen in a long time!!! Very refreshing. I drive a '79 F150. It's an integral part of our work, life, and recreation but you have iterated the depth of the idea so clearly. Thank you for sharing.
Steve - I know this video is 4 years old, but I had to comment. This was inspirational, and I enjoyed watching it. I have my own truck story...two of them, but the nearest and dearest to my heart is my grandpa's 1993 Chevrolet Silverado. I knew it from the day it was new, and now I have the privilege of owning and caring for it. I have a nice car too, as well as another truck I use for work on our own cattle farm, but my grandpa's truck is what I choose to drive almost daily to work, Sunday to church, and wherever I need to go. Thanks for sharing your story!
That was a really neat video. Hard to believe a vehicle built in 1990 would be that rust-free up there in Canada, but it looks really nice for its age. Glad to see it has treated you well.
Hi Michael. Thanks for watching. The trick for keeping any vehicle rust free is annual oil spray. I use with Krown or Rust Check (both work just as well). For most of my years owning vehicles I've had them sprayed, but now I have the equipment to spray on my own. If you spray every year, rust is simply a non-issue, even in cold, snowy, salty Canada.
Bye for now,
Steve
Where there is oil there cannot be rust. I wish I had learned this earlier on with my vehicles. It really does make a difference!
Hi Chip!
Yes, that's the complete truth in a nutshell. I call the Krown and Rust Check product "oil", but it's not quite like oil. It's slippery and it certainly creeps into nooks and crannies on its own in time, but it also washes off the outside of vehicles more easily than oil. Regardless of what it is, I'm puzzled why more people don't do that annual spray and make rust a non-issue.
Take care and thanks for watching!
Steve
Thanks! I'll have to check that out. I've been using used oil and tranny fluid on mine. I think that folks either don't know or don't care enough to do it. It's sad watching them slowly rot away from the road salt.
Have you ever posted a video showing how you apply this? I would be very interested to see this.
About 5 months ago I bought my own red 1990 F-150, although mine is 2WD. It's a wonderful truck, I bought it from an old man who took good care of it for nearly 15 years. I used it to help my grandparents pick up firewood in the winter, and it was really great to have when I moved out to west Texas to go to Texas Tech. Such a great video
Why am I just seeing this video? I love OBS Ford's, and what a great story!
Wow , I wasn't expecting a video like you presented . It was so much better than expected , well done to say the least 😊
I own 1 Ford F-150 for 27 years & I still drive it everyday as regular driving vehicle, and still get me around. It has given me great service, regardless what Toy lover say!!!
I love hearing about guys and their old trucks, I’ve got a 95 Dakota that I picked up a few months ago and I love it! I’m gonna own my truck for the next 10 years, just something about em
Great story and thank you for uploading! I’ve owned several F-150’s and I’m hooked for life :)
That is a great story and a nice looking truck. I have an 87' f250 with a 460, 4 speed, 4x4. It's my go everywhere work everyday truck. Recently got a rack and a canopy for it so I can haul more. Back on topic, I bought it about a year ago from a small dealership that Bought it from the original owner. There was even original paperwork from when he traded in his chevy and bought this truck way back in 1987. It was a sad story, the man didn't want to sell it because he had such a connection with it, unfortunately he broke his hip and could no longer shift the transmission. I plan on keeping this truck for a long time and try and keep up on maintenance. It's my third Ford truck. Cheers to you Steve! What would we do without our trucks
I am not a Ford fan but American steel is American steel good video great to see the old girls used how they were supposed to be
Seth Echternacht That's awesome and the new trucks are not only overpriced but they look hideous and ugly, made out of plastic, so complicated to work on, and lack soul and character as well.
What a wonderful story I love these truck stories. I've drove only trucks for 20years since 16. I grew up in genesee county michigan and Ford wasnt an option cause it was chevy town. I never drove a ford on the road until 2014 we test drove one I traded my 2013 brand new chevy for a f150. I'll never drive a gm product truck again until I die. I hope to have the same situation with my ford as you. I bought it with 5 miles on it it never even was test driven just driven around in parking lot. Thanks for the good video and you are a true craftsman you property and house absolutely beautiful.
Thanks for your story Steve. Your trucks have certainly served you well, and in many roles. We picked up a 76 F250 Ranger XLT camper special last summer, light yard work and long-term driveable resto project would describe it. Its also a throwback to my involvement with these Fords as work trucks back in the 70s. I look forward to many learning experiences with this truck and I too have at least one daughter who has shown a definite interest in its future! John
Beautiful story and nice work on the house. I love that generation of F-150. The brick nose years from 1987-1991. Great trucks, nice interiors and liked the green backlighting for the gauges.
Thanks 👍
My family teases me all the time about how much I love my F150. I'm gonna forward this video to them. Nice job!
That stone is beautiful. I consider myself pretty handy and ambitious, but I don't know if that's something I'd even attempt. Great trucks and beautiful work that they've been a part of.
What a ride!
Loved it
Most enjoyable story on your two older Ford trucks! Wonderful film footage and scenery shots lended itself well to this video. Your pleasant voice gave a Disney like essence to this story.
Hi Steve,my work truck is a 95 Toyota Tacoma,a solid truck in good shape.I drove a Ford pickup for 23 years.
Take care,Greg
I own a 1989 f150 custom that’s the exact same red color. Such a beautiful, timeless vehicle and I think yours is an amazing example of one. Never seen such a spotless body before with such good paint
I love that your whole family will have ties to that pickup! I have tons more respect for people maintaining than compared to leasing new every year! Nice work!
Wonderful story Steve. My most recent truck buy is a 1979 Ford F250. Butter yellow and a strong 351 engine. My plans are to make it as close to looking new as I can, but all original. It is fun to drive and a real work horse.
Fantastic story! Ford should use you in an ad! I’m a diehard, bleed blue Ford man. I’ve owned over 40 different ford trucks over the year and they always served me perfectly. I use trucks like you do. My trucks work! Heavy loads, towing and doing things the truck probably wasn’t designed to do but they always did! I running an 03 with 234,000 all original and has been working hard since day one! I just love this truck! Again, great story!
Great story. Great video. Thank you
Excellent story and review!!
I bought my Grandad's old 4Runner a couple of years ago. He bought it near new 20 years ago. After 2 work vehicles that cased me nothing but headaches it's refreshing to own a vehicle with little more than general wear and tear issues you would expect from a 20 Year old veichle that gets used for hard work 6 days a week.
I hope to build a truck story like yours one day Steve and Carry on the legacy of a man who's no longer with us.
What a cool story, Steve you seem to live a simple (but I'm sure, not easy) life. I got my first Ford last year after years of driving Honda's and Toyotas and getting tired of them falling apart physically, while running strong mechanically. I did an overwhelming amount of research, more than I should have as I started to obsess over what brand, and type of truck to buy. Ended up with a 2017 F150 STX, and I'm smitten. I told my wife that I may just never get rid of the truck and keep it as long as possible. I'm handy around the house and with cars, so I expect to do all the maintenance myself. Watching this video was super cool, thanks for sharing.
My 94 Bronco is the same way. Love that thing. I'm only 23 and have many years left out of my ole bronco, with many good memories to make
Great story. I love hearing about fellow proud F150 owners and they're tail. Nice family, nice story.
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
I've always been a ford guy...that's all I've owned and all ill ever own..this video is great man..really touching
really heart touching video
Great video! Well done.
What a fabulous video and great story. You are truly an amazing guy!! Thanks for sharing this. I just watched your video on making wedges, just discovered you and your channel. This story of your trucks (and family) is such an inspiration of love, determination, skills, hard work and love of family. Best video Ive seen on CZcams. Thank you so much for sharing this! We need more people like you in this world! God bless you and your family. Dave Henderson
Amazing story and Awesome video. Thank you Steve. You are a rare breed.
You Sir are a true craftsman, beautiful property.
This is so wholesome. I love it.
I've got a 1990 GMC stepside 4x4. I bought it in '91 with 21,000 miles. Overhauled twice and now has a new engine in it. I'll keep it going as long as I can. My truck has worked hard, hunted, fished, camped and hauled motorcycles just to name a few of the adventures I've had in my truck over the last 27 years. Maybe I'll pass it on to my son when he gets old enough to start driving.
wow. what a beautiful story. an amazing life you got to live. hard work always pans out in the end. thank you for sharing your story and God bless you and your family
Thanks for commenting. I appreciate your kind words. From your username, it sounds like you've got a Ford, too. What are you running these days?
Take care,
Steve
Great story and video. Nothing can beat a Ford F-150. Best trucks out there by far.
I miss my '90 F250 4x4. I have a '93 GMC Sonoma now and it is perfect for what I need and has performed wonderfully but that F250 was just a beast and was in pretty good shape too.
Great story, beautiful home, wonderful family! Oh, nice old truck, too.
NIce story. Not just the mechanics of it, but the heart.
This is an awesome story. You’re a great man.
Love the video. Have many Ford stories as well . Thank you for sharing.
I'm in my 20s and have great interest in vehicles in general. I do really wish that many, or all, vehicle companies go back to those days that they just built the reliable vehicles they used to build.
All auto manufacturers have ruined their own quality for 40 years, virtue signaling to environment crap. It’s toast.
Steve thanks for sharing your awesome story with us. It was very touching.
And this is something you'll never see anyone in my generation do, let alone appreciate..
Heartagram triggered
I'm sure Menopause sucks sweetheart. More important question is where is your life going after this conversation? Besides the shitter obviously.
You're so random & weak, I can't believe how fun this is. But I gotta run! Ta-Ta fucka!
Gaijin Boogie Amen Brother I have a 96 Ford F150 with 5.0L Windsor V8 with 203,393 miles on it and it's still going strong. The only thing I replaced on my truck was the starter but other than that mostly was just simple maintenance and cleaned out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since. Folks call me a Redneck or a HillBilly but my 96 F150 will outlast anything you see on the road today and plus my truck looks better than anything you see on the road today as well.
Kids that grew up in the 90's are too soft...
Good video! My late grandpa had that same red ford custom. I hope to inherit it soon.
Dude this is so cool!
Awesome story, keeping hope's and dreams alive!
Greetings from "The Sunshine State"! I too own a F-150 and since day one I have created fond memories with mine, they are work-horses that don't quit! I thoroughly have enjoyed your story. I can tell you have made the difference in many lives..... My best regards to you and your family.
Hi Again Dreemever!
Thanks for reaching out. We've been very fortunate with our truck and with our family life. We're thankful and still striving to make good things happen with our Ford. Recently I drove our old F-150 down to Michigan to take our shot putter son Joseph to a track meet. 1700 mile round trip through 0ºF weather and never a moment's complaint. I probably didn't pass an older vehicle on that whole trip.
Bye for now and thanks for watching!
Steve
Every kid should have a Dad like you! I was fortunate to have one and have tried to pass along memorable memories along the journey from day-one. Paul
You’re a good man keeping that truck in shape major respect
Hey Steve, thanks for sharing your heartbreaking story. I think that is in representation for all Truck loving people around the world. Thanks for that nice Video and greetings from Germany
Thanks for your note. Great to hear from you. I know the truck situation in Europe is very different than North America. I've hardly ever seen pickup trucks when I've been to Europe, and when I do they're small. What sort of truck do you have? Just curious.
Thanks for watching!
Steve
Hey Steve =) thanks for your response and sorry for my englisch/grammar... I´m doing my best ^^
Where have you been in europe ?
in Germany the most Pickups (to my believe pickups are only 1 or 2% of traffic) are small size Pickups like VW Amarok, Ford Ranger etc. If someone drives a US Truck it is in 80% a Ram 1500.
My current Truck is my dream since 8 years (a 2011 F-250 Powerstroke) and I bought him at August 2016 ... it is really new for me and I´m so happy that this personal dream of a car for me is became truth.
I started a youtube channel two days ago in german language for Trucks like this in europe. because the
acquisition of information in metric values is quite hard and the most people dont know the dimesions of trucks like this.
I can´t believe that you have build that amazing house by your own hands.... my respect for that. ;-)
Thanks for getting back to me. My European travels have included Spain, Italy and Poland. I admire Germany a lot and would like to visit sometime.
That sounds like a great truck you have. It must be quite unusual in Germany. Does the government there discourage trucks this big with heavy license fees?
Bye for now,
Steve
P.S. You might find my weekly newsletter interesting. I put out a fresh issue each Saturday. Drop by my website baileylineroad.com and sign up for free.
Awesome video/story Steve!! I own an 89 f250 7.3 diesel 5 speed stick ext cab long bed. Orginal and in great shape.
Great Video!
Awesome video
Those trucks will never get old
Cool story. Not only about your Ford, but about all you have accomplished. Good on you.
Awesome life story too!
Makes me wanna go wash my old truck right now. Love those Old Fords. Great story!!
that stone work is gorgeous
A great video and awesome story.
Glad you think so!
I read your story in mother earth news magazine. awesome to see you're a ford fan
well done sir. well done.
Fantastic story! I loved my F150, it never gave me any problems. It had the 300 6 cylinder engine.
I have a ‘95 F250 that just turned 88,000 miles. I will never ever get rid of my Ford truck. Hopefully it will be involved in great family memories like your trucks are!
Beautifull story by the way.
5 years later...I still stop by and re-watch this video
Great story...great family, nice truck!
I have a 1981 F150. It was bought new here in Omaha, NE by a famous Polka music player whom is now in the Hall of Fame. Anyway, he sold it to my parents when I was 2 years old in about 1992 for $300 USD. We've had it since and it lived throughout the "nickel and diming" and such. I literally had to dig it out of my parents back yard, and she still runs good today. I'm now 26 years old and I'm giving my daughter the memories I once had in the same truck. It's an awesome feeling for sure.
Hi Brenndon,
Great story! Thanks for telling me about it. Do you drive your truck regularly? How many miles on it? Just curious.
Thanks for watching!
Steve
What a great story.
real nice video man
Great story...great trucks!
Amazing story
I used to have a 1974 Chevy C 20 which I used for hauling firewood, dirt, stone, lumber and what whatever else I needed to move at the time. It was probably the most important vehicle I ever had. And like you when it came time I gave it to a friend who needed it more than I did. My present vehicle although not a truck is an 1986 Monte Carlo which I use as a light truck sometimes. I bought this one new in 86, and have been working together ever since. I come from a generation of Swedes who don't throw it away just cause it's old. It seems to be an outdated idea now. But we made do with what we could afford.
Very inspiring
What a wonderful story! I'm trying to do the same on my 150 acres.
Heart touching video... it's like a ford commercial
Great story, and I've got to say that for Canada, that truck looks as clean as they do here in Arizona.
I acquired my first truck when I was 14, it was my dad's old 1986 F-150 that needed a lot of love. So for the next two years it was body work and mechanical repairs. It had over 300k on the clock when I started working on it and I had if for a few years then he convinced me to trade it in on a ranger. I still wish I had it and we would make it do the same work my 02 7.3 Powerstroke does now. The 300 I6 and granny gear 4 speed is a hard combination to beat for longevity.
Love your story I am in my mid 50's had Ford cars most of my life and have all ways given me a great run Australian Falcon's
Awesome story
Such a cool truck
Awesome video!
Thanks for watching and for commenting. Great to hear from you.
Drop by my website baileylineroad.com for a visit sometime. You'll find lots of stuff there, including tool giveaways and articles. The old Ford even makes it into other videos sometimes. .
Steve
Best video about owning a truck
Great story.i just sold my 1990 f150 4x4 supercab last summer. I really loved that truck but it let me down to many times on my way home from my cabin in muskoka. So I bought a 2014 F150. Hope it brings me many happy miles.
Good ol pickup truck I have a '13 and I plan on keeping it for as long as I can
Mr. Maxwell I really liked your story built around your truck , but I was most impressed with your story of family . I purchased a truss machine from a man on the island back in the 90's shortly after that my wife was disabled by addisons and last September we have to deal with cancer . I know your talking trucks but I like the under pinnings of your story , hope all is still well on the island
