Actually the Ellinger Tor wasn't the main gate to the city, the Obertor was, leading down the hill onto the Luitpodstraße (Holzmarkt), where you ended your tour, the Ellinger Tor is just the last surviving one (and the Spitaltor, which was part of the older, smaller town wall and is now a church tower, located on the lower side of the Marktplatz) Sadly, you missed one of the main attractions, the roman baths, one of the best preserved north of the alps, which can be visited and is located ca 3 to 5 minutes by foot from the castrum ... But there has to be something to visit when you come back again ;-)
