The boiled veg soup is a common side dish in Vietnam. Vietnamese people usually eat rice together with a small bowl of soup. The meaning of it is to help your digestion when eating, especially when chewing chewy food. Vietnamese do not like to eat something too soft. They must be a bit crunchy, a bit chewy. We do not drink so much during eating because it makes you easily feel full. Then you have a replacement of a small soup bowl.

Glad you guys went to that restaurant as I see Western vloggers go to Phu Quoc and don't eat at a restaurant on the water like that...come on! You're right there by the water, of course the seafood is gonna be fresh and delicious, why go eat something else at the night market instead, right? BTW, most Vietnamese homestyle meals will consist of maybe a fatty protein (e.g. braised/caramelized/fried fish, chicken, pork), veggie (if the protein is really flavorful the veggies may be just boiled in water with minimal seasoning, you drink the broth to help the food go down as Vietnamese people don't really drink water whilst eating...the broth also has nutrients from the boiled veggies and helps the rice go down better), etc. If you guys get to Da Nang, try the seafood that "Flora and Note" ate - Flora is a cook/chef (?) and said it was probably the best thing she ever ate. Vietnamese folks love seafood...and if you're adventurous, hit up the oc (snail) restaurants. They serve more than just snails, but the snails in coconut sauce and all the shelled seafood is amazing!
Yeah it seems like a no brainer! Why eat at the night market with its terrible reviews when you can eat at a floating restaurant, where all the fresh fish is caught - I’m so glad we went, the food was sooo tasty 😊
Ahhh, that makes sense about the about the veg water - thanks! We weren’t sure if we were supposed to be mixing it into the food so glad we didn’t do that haha! We had plenty of beer to help the food go down, maybe not as healthy as the veg water though 😂
We’ve already left Danang (our videos are a little behind due to the time it takes to edit them), we’ll definitely check out the place Flora and Note recommended and the snail restaurant next time we’re in Danang!
