Christopher Nolan, and Heath Ledger really nailed the relationship of Batman and the Joker throughout their entire history. That's why no matter what superhero films are made in the future, they will never be able to measure up to The Dark Knight. This is one of the few movies I saw in theatre's 4 times in the first month it came out. I was almost physically shaking with excitement during my first viewing opening night, and I couldn't believe how good it was after I left the theatre that night. In most of the live concerts, Tina Guo (also a long time collaborator and good friend of Hans) is playing the cello.

The sound Jenn is referring to at 34:45 (basically Joker's "theme") is called a Shepard tone. The reason it makes people feel uncomfortable is because it continuously gives the appearance that it's getting higher and higher pitched but never resolves. It was a perfect choice by Hans Zimmer and he actually talks about it in the behind-the-scenes extras of the film.

Can you imagine how frustrating Batman felt, he had the moment and all the strength to beat him to a pulp but somehow he doesnt have the upper hand. He was physically beating him but still wasn'tt able to extract info about Rachel and Dent's where about, meaning the Joker could have killed those two whenever he wanted and Batman cant do shit about it. The Joker only gave him the location because it was part of the plan, the plan to turn Dent into one of them, "a freak".

The scene when the hospital blows up and Joker stops and looks at it because it doesn’t fully go off wasn’t actually improvised. That was just some weird legend, that the internet started. There’s no way they would’ve kept rolling if that happened with such a dangerous stunt happening, and it didn’t fully go off, they would’ve had to get a bomb squad to figure out what happened and evacuate everything. So that’s one thing, two if I’m not mistaken it’s actually in the script that there is supposed to be a delay, and Heath would turn around and look at it. However something really cool that is improvised from Heath is the deleted scene that followed the hospital blowing up. Basically it’s Heath just in the school bus, and the entire time that this giant fucking explosion is going off, he doesn’t look at it and stays completely in character. Truly a master of his craft

I remember seeing a BTS clip somewhere on CZcams of an animated storyboard of the scene. The pause was planned because it gave heath enough time for him to get a safe distance away from the building before it was demolished. I think the explosions as he’s coming out are like ‘cosmetic’ if that makes sense. Then the second set of explosions actually bring the building down. It’s always annoyed me that everyone thinks it’s improvised 🙈

I think a main point of why LEdger's Joker is "the best", is that there's no dilution to this one, perfect example. It's never been "diluted" with another performance by him under a different director, screen writer, producer or such. He had this first attempt at it, nailed it, and it'll live forever as the shining example of Joker at his best. Had he been given the chance, you know the origin story or an attempt at an even edgier Joker would've been tried, likely with him recast, and it would've soured this movie a lot.

People will clean the handgrip of a gun as a matter of course, but the magazine and the bullets themselves are less likely to be cleaned. This film is way better than Endgame. Endgame requires 20 other movies to provide backstory and get it to that point. It doesn't work as its own movie.

@@lkay398 you’re right. I guess I was considering the whole marvel franchise leading up to it as well. As a stand alone…I completely agree

Very solid review you guys had at the end of the movie. One other fun fact is the scene where Joker entered the building with him meeting with Rachael, she was not aware of how Heath would carry himself and as you see her terrifying look, she was legitimately terrified in that scene. She went on explaining the scene during the an interview on how she was truly terrified during that part. Thanks again guys for your movie reactions I am so glad you guys are doing the batman trilogy perhaps you guys can do Game of Thrones 😁

This is an amazing film. I watched Heat a while ago and saw some similarities with this film and that one, and it turns out CN saw Heat and envisioned Gotham to be like that kind of setting. So when you watch Heat, it actually feels like the Dark Knight in terms of set pieces and sections of the film but overall, the story is completely different. (I don't mean to compare them and to say they share a comon theme, but CN used some parts of Heat as a template with which to write DK.)

Dark Knight is such a good movie. The dialogue is so memorable and on point, espeically when it comes to both villains. Their dialogue hints at the 3rd act of the movie, how heroes, population and police will react to what happens. It is the script that makes it and this is a movie that will stay with me forever.
PS: Please do a video on Prestige. It is my 2nd favorite Nolan movie after TDK and before Inception which is my 3rd fav.

As the Batman trilogy unfolded, the Nolan brothers expanded their filmography to include a couple of the most subversive shows in recent t.v. history: Person of Interest and West World. POI, in particular, had such a 'Dark Knight' feel to it as it included many of the actors from the trilogy. I've always believed that the show's main character -portrayed byJim Caviezel - would make an exceptional aging Bruce Wayne. If you've never seen the show, find a clip on CZcams to see what I mean. The character's name is John Reese. He's got everything from the voice to the mannerisms down pat (IMHO).

The scene where Joker comes out of the elevator, to Alfred's surprise. Michael Caine actually had a line at that moment but forgot to say it from seeing Ledger in character

You can see how passionate Jen felt about the movie with how much she had to say. I agree 100% with her points, that the best movies are the ones that leave you thinking and questioning, also the performance of the characters and their own moral dilemmas were really juicy. This movie had all and for me it's a 10/10

Refreshing to see someone get that the bank in the beginning was a mob bank, which is why the manager gets the shotgun out. Most reactions I’ve seen completely miss that.

fun fact: The ballroom scene that Jen said she saw prior to watching the movie, this was actually the first time the actress who played Rachel had seen Heath Ledger as joker and her terrified reaction when he was grabbing her was genuine because she didn’t even recognize him at first…..
