    The band's medley incorporated the following tunes:
    Edison (Stuart Irvine)
    Morning Blossom (Lincoln Hilton)
    The Piper's Bonnet (traditional)
    Nameless Air (traditional)
    Jane Campbell (Michael Grey)
    The Braes of Forbes (G S McLennan)
    Richard Dwyer's (traditional)
    The Hard Drive (Gordon Duncan)
    The band's performance earned the band's drum corps the Grade One European Drumming Championship and the band was placed second overall in Grade One competition.

    Some people don't like cream and shake the bottle to disperse it into the mass, however, it always rises back to the top again where it rightly belongs.
    Thanks very much for taking the time to upload. I love these videos.

    I find so many medleys just do not grab me in any way, but this one certainly does. Fantastic tunes, played brilliantly, top class sound from chanters, drones and an excellent drum corps. I'd love to hear more medleys of this calibre.

    Holds your attention a lot longer than most medleys .Its great to hear the drums and pipes balanced this way so many bands are so pipe heavy which I understand, but its nice to hear both instruments the way they are supposed to be played: together. Excellent job.

    Love these videos, thank you so much for posting them. I always find one thing dramatically missing in the sound though. The bass drummer. They are the time keeper and the one who helps blend the pipers and snare section into an ensemble. At least that’s the way I used to play my part. Time keeper with a lot of musicality. Mind you I was only in a grade 2 band and I got marked as a cheeky player.

      Hi Len been around pipe bands for 60 years and was taught the same Bass drummer should be the king pin that lays the beat and blends the pipes and drum sectioninto one tight group that has gone completely like a 767 off into the blue yonder in a mess of flaying arms and mallets with no beat at all.

      I quite agree¬ I also don't care for the current fashion of muffling the drum sticks on the bass drum - & to try & compensate some bands even use two bass drums but it's just not the same! Though some military bands don't muffle their bass drum sticks : )

    If this performance does not merit 4 firsts overall, then I think it is now time for the adjudicators to enlighten the public as to why it does not meet their standards. This is a reasonable request and would inform all pipe bands and supporters as to what standard, style or perhaps sound is required to meet the pleasement of each individual judge.
    From the general consensus among pipe band enthusiasts there is a growing sense of: what is going on amongst the judging panel: I would respect their opinions and would not at all deny them the right to them ,however, for an organization like the RSPBA not to keep their support base in the dark about the intended end product to be achieved, one would have to ask how are bands expected to reach their objective ?
    Post championship adjudicator interviews would provide the public with clarity and transparency and enhance the interest of the public, without casting a grey cloud of doubt over either the ability or integrity of the adjudicators.
    Please act now.

      Bands get comment sheets, unless I am mistaken

    • @ringsidejudge4302
      @ringsidejudge4302 Před 6 lety +2

      Indeed they do, but I am sure the listening public and bandsmen would appreciate a verbal explanation from the respective judges. Transparency could only help the RSPBA and the complete pipe band world. Comment sheets are privy only to the said bands.

      The problem with pipe band judging is that people forget that the judges personal preference and tastes play into their decision on giving out placings and it’s unfortunately an very biased system. It’s hard to find impartial judges these days where the comments and rankings aren’t based on the skill and playing of the bands themselves.

    Thanks again for posting these. Always great quality!
    I did notice you have the jigs in the incorrect order. Should be Morning Blossom into the Piper's Bonnet.
    Cheers,

    How they are not winning I don't know

      TheMillarballs They are winning - but certain pitiful wretches with selfish interests to profit, and massive egos to induldge clearly feel threated, or diminished in some way, by FMMs brilliance and have become intent on doing all they can to ensure that no matter how far ahead FMM are on any given day that they don't walk off with the top prize.
      Such people have forgotten that BANDS; not judges, not officials, not the industry that surrounds Pipe Bands, are the fundamental heart and lifeblood of the RSPBA. They have decided to manipulate results to keep FMM from adding to their list of championships. (It's happening in other grades too!)
      It's been happening for a few years now but one thing is certain. FMM will continue to produce benchmark, Championship winning performances, wherever they end up in the pile. It is to their credit that they just get on with it week in and week out knowing full well before they turn up at a Major that they will likely as not, get stitched up!
      Soon enough people - competitors and the public, will get fed up with the manipulation of results and either walk away or demand change. In the meantime, people should just enjoy FMM for the brilliant band they are - they won't be around forever and they will be missed when they're gone... even by the haters!

      Malignant Porifera, You couldn’t have said it any better. As Nelson Mandela says “Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.” Adversity makes people stronger, let’s just enjoy this band while it’s here.

    • @ringsidejudge4302

      My thoughts totally. I have long ago decided when I go to a competition band to listen to the music and not deliberate on the results.
      When I do go, I have great pleasure when listening to FMM, I think in most peoples ear they have the best expression coupled with a real gem of a sound and ensemble.
      I found it incredible at last years world championship, that the winners were known, even before they played ,
      In my earlier comment above, I believe that the judges should have to answer for their actions in post competition interviews,at least the general pipe band enthusiast would have a chance to eyeball these men of corruption.
      All credit to FMM and I wish them well in the future because if ever they go out of business through corruption, there no doubt will never be anything close to their standard on this planet again,

    If a judge is to judge the ensemble then he or she should be proficient in both piping and drumming, was this the case?

  • @Piper1Charlie
    @Piper1Charlie Před 6 lety +12

    Inveraray played well for sure, but nothing like FMM , great execution, perfect tone, and much more musical then Inveraray. Judges have their favorites.......

      piper 1 charlie inverary kept the one tempo in the jigs like a train going up the line plus the judges listen to slips and missed birls which cost points

    • @BrittanyBearGoesRawr

      I find FMM just doesn’t have that “holy shit” factor when I listen to their medleys. It all sounds very safe and kinda boring.

    • @andrewnix6480
      @andrewnix6480 Před 6 lety

      Musicality is so subjective. So you have your favorites just as much as the judges...
      If you looked at the results, one of the judges ranked FMM first. That judge agrees with you. The other one agrees with me. Neither are wrong or right.
      The dealbreaker was the ensemble placement. I am not a piping expert, I can't comment on tone and piping skill or any of that, but I can tell that Inveraray had a very arguable advantage in balance between the drums and pipe band
      I would entertain it if you disagree

    • @Piper1Charlie
      @Piper1Charlie Před 6 lety +2

      I respect your opinion sir, however your own statement that you cannot comment on tone and piping skills says alot. Those things are what sets bands apart in any contest. Yes I did look at the judges scores, and in my humble opinion the judge who gave the contest to FMM was 100% right, and the other was simply wrong. You are also not correct as far as FMM being my favorite, SLOT happens to be my favorite. I also feel that to many contests these days are won or lost by the ensamble judge, just my opinion!

  • @aaroncrozier4177
    @aaroncrozier4177 Před 6 lety +6

    • @campbellwilson6860
      @campbellwilson6860 Před 6 lety +1

      I have to disagree with you there. FMM had some separation in the opener, and ensemble wise the pipers didn't quite match with the drummers. Inveraray are a far better band.
