4 is considered an unlucky number in many Asian cultures because it sounds like the word for death, so watch your back, and burn some sage
Through the Livestream I thought the DeeDee Dice was a little wasp or bee head. I thought the eyes on the 20 side were antennas. Still adorable though.
So we now have to call you THE 4 KING.
whats really funny most people think 4 is a fail.
- And he never rolled higher than a 4 in a skill check for the rest of his life. He's locked in now.
Someone get me when an arsehole changes the like count, on the comment I'm replying to, from 69
Worth
R E L I A B L E T A L L E N T!!!
This is me except its not skill checks. Skill checks I rock. Combat rolls though? Almost always 4, if I'm unlucky its 2 or 3 but never 1. I built a skill monkey that buffs people and was okay at combat and then never hit a person for over a year. Then I hit someone and froze confused, I checked the number I rolled to hit(this is a computer program so it just gave the total) 4.....I had gained enough pluses to hit that 4 now could hit enemies and so I was allowed to hit enemies now. (It only took being a skald with rage song, a +4 weapon weapon that gains more bonuses while raging, a bard cohort, and being Mythic but now I could FIGHT.)
@@Sandman382 I'm so notoriously bad at lockpicking dex checks that of the 11 locks I picked one campain, failed all 11 times. (Only broke four keys to my credit)
Edit: Opening locks with keys AND lockpicking, correction
Actually rolling another four? Duke, you’ve got to use magic missile more 😂
Oh snap you’re right 🤣
This genuinely made me laugh LMAO
I have a feeling that spell would get banned after a while with his luck 😆
Facts!
You only need one 4 for formidable force (damage)
Dang, I hope to be as lucky as you someday
Yo can I get a shout out?
Have you guys considered you’re a party of CZcams Channels? But then who’s the DM…?

I wasn't expecting the second d20, but for some reason I did think he was going to use the d100
He did, but did not roll a 4 unfortunately lol
@@shadamyandsonamylover that would've been a 1 in *900 million*
@@ezekielbaskerville2710 that’s crazy haha
In some Asian cultures, the number 4 is reputed to be an omen of death. This will either end with 4 as a winning lottery number, or no money being won at all. (My guess is the lottery ticket won't actually win him any money.)
I don't know about others, but this is true in Japan, as one way of pronouncing 4 (shi) is the same pronunciation as the kanji for death.
though that's also the place where getting pooped on by a bird can be a sign of good luck, because the word "fun" (pronounced "foon") can be written with the kanji for poop and for luck, I believe. I don't think anyone is actually happy about that, but it is something people say from time to time.
@@magnus0017 I've heard that it's also true in China (the number 4 being pronounced the same as "death"), and that's why 4 is such a hated number in China and Japan.
@@VanNessy97 ah, don't know any Chinese really so didn't want to assume, but half the pronunciations in Japanese come from Chinese, so it makes sense.
There's even a whole trope about it, just called "Four is Death."
@@magnus0017 the bird poop (pigeon to be specific) being good luck for lotery is in Turkish culture too they were even using it in ads for new year lottery alot back in the days and even the lottety vompany logo is a white pigeon
Watching it live was absolutely bonkers! Duke's reactions were hilarious and somewhat uplifting!
I've never seen anyone so happy to see a 4 on a D20 xD
Duke: "There are six different types of die in the set mainly used for TTRPGs like Dungeons And Dragons or D&D."
Me: "No, Duke, those are the same thing."
He was saying like “aka” not as if they are different things
@@shadamyandsonamylover
The joke.
Your head.
yes, everybody knows TTRPG's are the same as Dungeons and Dragons!
@@brandongalvan6603 Doesn't seem like it was telling a joke, though
@@brandongalvan6603 Please explain the joke then.
I kid you not but I had a friend who rolled 4 on a d20 15 times in a row during one of our session, it was during a boss battle so he kept missing but it was after about the 8th roll we noticed how much he had rolled a 4, we stopped the battle and told him to keep rolling and proceeded to get 7 more in a row. The chance of him doing this is 3.2768e+19 to 1!!! That number is over 3 sextillion! It was absolutely crazy when we watched it happen
that has to be a weighted die holy
@UCO3-e0sBgCqYpCqAm0Dic5g I checked it, it wasn't. I grabbed it after he failed to roll another 4 and when I rolled it I got a 5, then a nat 20, and then a 10. So there was no way it was a weighted die. I definetly understand your skepticism and I was too considering this friend is usually unlucky but really it wasn't a weighted die.
@@millionplayz7819 that’s amazing, my best is 4 consecutive nay 20s as a rogue
@@millionplayz7819 I'd roll that around 100 to 200 times before declaring it not weighted. That seems like too many in a row to be chance
@@DarthAxolotl well the thing was, it also was the DM’s dice. He usually brings all the dice with him if we do it in person. I doubt he would give him a weighted d20 that would always land on a 4, considering my friends was probably the least annoying for him out of all our characters lmao. Plus with the whole thing of it being too unlikely for it to be chance, that’s what makes the moment so great. It’s because it did happen
Next session of One Shot Quampaigns he better start by rolling a 4
New challenge: The crit happens om 4s instead of 20s.
That Stream was Divine intervention at it's finest, it happened when we were expecting it the least and it was magical and shocking.
I watched that stream thinking I would probably invest 5 minutes then go do something else, and he rolled the freaking fours lmao. It was insane.
It was an amazing time during the live stream, thank you! And I can’t believe that it only took 3 hours 30 minutes while during the entire stream, you didn’t get to the D12 UNTIL this moment
Perk unlocked: The 4th roll. Every time you roll a D20 and get 4, you get a d20 to roll for another attempt. Each time you hit a 4, You can add another. Capped at 20 dice. Add the total. You can do this once per season.
So good! Your reaction to the 2nd D20 was adorkable.
I'm sorry I doubted you, Duke. Good job for accomplishing such an astromically near-impossible feat!
Bro, your patience to do this is unmatched
Catching it live was great. It was so stressful when he got to the d20 but SO great when it actually worked out
"One in a million chances crop up 9 times out of ten" - Sir Terry Pratchett, Guards! Guards!
I believe since you were rolling for both 4’s and highest numbers, that would make the chance 2 : 9 million, since there were 2 acceptable outcomes of the dice. Still very impressive :3
Well done on the patience.
Recently, on an attack on a big baddie, my Paladin Divine Smite (lvl 1-2d8) with Fiend added dice (1d8) and added Fiend bonus sword (1d8), I rolled 1d10 (Glaive) and 4d4 and got five 3s! The median for those dice is 21. My measly "15"+9 mod = 24 made for a very undramatic attack.
This is such a massively great example of how to misconstrue probability. It’s also a good example of the importance of considering the law of large numbers.
Seeing this clip again after having already watched the livestream, I still get psyched seeing that d20 roll a 4. MMMMHHH! Glorious.
See this is all fun and games till the next time he plays an actual game of dnd and can’t stop rolling 4
Amazing! I love it Duke! Great job!
Such a fun stream to watch!
Not gonna lie, i had to watch that intro like 5 times at 0.25x speed, that was some smooth editing

I remember seeing this it was awesome man love your work
I was so happy I got to see this live especially since 4 is my favorite number (shoutout to jhin mains) And I cant wait to get a set of dice for my upcoming birthday thank you for this great content
Jhin is very satisfied by this video ahahhaa
Exactly 0 people are gonna believe me but once while running a one shot I, as the dm, rolled 7 4s in a row on a d20. 2(or 4 if you wanna look at it that way) were with advantage, and it resulted in a grand total of 1 in 1,280,000,000 odds(1.28 billion). I was furious
Either your dice is not fair, or you rolled the dice badly
@@quentind1924 I can assure you neither of these are the case
What difference does that make if you had advantage??
Also the odds of getting the same number 7 times in a row is 1 in 64 000 000 since the first one is irrelevant.
You may think you have 1 chance out of 400 to roll the same number twice but actually its only 1 out of 20. Unless you decide what number you want before the first roll.
"It Broke My Calculator %"
Ah yes, ERR%. The odds to beat.
NO BUT CONGRATS DUDE THATS DOPE!!
Congrats, you're big man
3:00 I knew DeeDee would come through!
And yes I ordered my DeeDee dice set :3
I subscribed cause your awesome ADHD and Movin on to a different challenge definitely defines it
You're probably the only guy right now so ecstatic to roll a 4 on a d20.
Now you have to rename the channel as "Four Shots Questers"! XD
GG
Bro I started crying from laughter when you rolled a 7th 4 w h e e z e
It is so insane for me to enjoy rolling dice. I am a DM but still. So much enjoyment. Lucky you ;)
incredible. Phenomenal, brilliant. Best video in existence
wow!!! when i saw this stream title i was wondering how many streams it would take. who would have thought on day one you get it!
And that just before your fourth anniversary as you mentioned in stream xD
Man's be a literal statistical miracle
Remember being there. Brilliant
You're such a dork. I love you
I love math😂 I wrote just before he rolled it, that there is no way and that it would take 12 days...... little did I know
May the fours be with you.
A. Liquified Duke is hilarious.
B. That was insanely lucky.
C. Love your content on all cbannels!
My man managed this challenge... with disadvantage.
woah I have that same exact set of blue dice, wild
Imagine if he had rolled a nat 20 instead of a 4
You should doing something like this live
somewhere in a different universe, a serial killer is gushing seeing this challenge
Make sure you pick 4 as one of ur numbers
Seriously thatbisbso awesome!!!
Seeing you roll the second d20 almost gave me a heart attack 🤣🤣🤣
The number 4 loves me and my dnd sessions. I fail so much because of it.
DMs no longer crit on a nat 20. it's now on nat 4s.
Fun fact, I made my own homebrew for those unlucky players, a Sorcerer subclass called Tricksters soul and their main ability is reversing the Rolls so a nät 1 is like a nat 20 and a nat 20 is like a 1, so quite literally everything is reversed, so for this unlucky players out that use something like this sprinkle in some story to why like trickery, jinx and all that. So that's all folks
The legend says that he is still rolling the 4
so the other weekend during our campaign the dm asked for a percentile roll and asked highs or lows . I told him 73 exactly as a joke .( was not the one rolling btw ) the person at our table rolled 73... this is the second time ive done this and the running gag is that apparently my luck only exists at that table
I am that guy who have to check math if I see it on the internet. And math checks out
K you won d&d! Congrats lol
Lucky number 4? Huh I love that!
Many cultures consider 4 as an unlucky number because it sounds like ‘death’ in some languages
If you want to speed up the challengs. Start with d20 and end with d4.
i was so confused when he started with the d4, i was sure he would realise it or someone would tell him by the end of the video
Bow before the new dice Lord.
Oh this was a game that I played with a couple friends in HS, I think the highest we ever got to was the d10 (not with the 4s specifically, just the highest number on the dice thing)
You're now ready to crush any challenge in GURPS.
video idea: how to not die as a wizard.
basically teaching you how to play wizard while beefing them up so they can actually survive an attack by a baby goblin.
I was there when it happened, it was legendary
Hell yeah. Nat 4.
This is crazy
that means for every 9mil+ rolls, you will get this dice 'combination'
"six different types of dice in the set"
*cries in d%*
May the fours be with you
well let's hope you're DM's aren't sadists and require a skill check of exactly 4 to succeed because you just solidified 4 as your lucky number for life
This seems like a bad idea, you are stealing and using up all of the worlds stored luck. The dice gods may need to strike someone down, to satisfy their imbalance.
Gotta go for a Nat 1 only stream if you do attempt this again in the future! :)
It’s okay wil Wheaton will balance it out XD
i must have been playing while this was streaming bc i had no luck on my campaign, pretty much snake eyes'd most of it
Dude shoulda used my dice, they roll 4s all the damn time
I did this one while bored rolling mid session the other week
pro tip: starting with the bigger dies makes it go faster, same odds, quicker resets on average
i was so confused when he started with the d4, i was sure he would realise it or someone would tell him by the end of the video
Honestly though late you should have a confirm roll 4 in game like a person rolls a 4 on a ability check or saving throw, (this is assuming it will fail with bonuses) they roll again and if they get another four it counts as a Nat 20
May the 4ce be with you.
Can't believe I watched this happen live
so your the man that took all my luck
The 4s are strong with this one
I ordered the deedee dice to celebrate 😃
I have a challenge for you. Roll all 6 at the same time and get the highest number on each dice (or the same number 1 - 4) in 1 go... I have no idea if that would be harder or easier than what you did here but it would be pretty sweet to see.
Gonna have to change your name to Four Shot Questers now :P
Ah that was just a simply causality breakdown - I read up on that on the SCP Wiki...
Holy Luck
That’s how you become a warlock!
I have never seen a man so excited to roll a 4 on a D20. lol
Nice, now slay the Balrog of moria in one hit, while screaming "run you fools, run". All you need for that is over 600 on a d100. Crits 99 and 100 for exploding dice. Oh yeah and afterwards basically another crit for a especially nasty one from the crit table which reads "Instant death". Good times. ;-)
you should totally do a video where the its the first rolls of the dice need to be the highest on each die. like new dice, each must be the highest
Wouldn't it have been more efficient to roll the D20 first and go in descending order of sides so that each successful roll has a greater chance of leading to the next roll being successful instead of greater odds?
Or would they be equal in the number of total dice rolls? The way he did it has more success in the early rolls but less chances of success in later rolls.
I don't have access to my computer right now to work out a simulation program to check. I also haven't written any kind of software in twenty years but it couldn't be difficult to work out which model takes the least amount of time but simulating the number of rolls with both systems and the averaging the resultant number of dice rolls over multiple runs.
Rolling all those 4s in the livestream and then the 4 at the end of the video is 1 in 184,120,000 odds.
im so blipping quick today
I tried to get the challenge done all through a Curse of Strahd campaign I plated in... I got to the d20 a total of 3 times.
Beating it in 3 hours is just insane.
