As someone who experiences auditory hallucinations it is unnerving to play this game but also so engrossing. When I finished the first one I just started sobbing because it did such a convincing job of conveying psychosis. This game takes it even further and more closely resembles what I experience. The disembodied voices that “feel” like they’re coming from somewhere other than inside my head is spot on. I can’t really say I enjoy playing this game but I’m so glad it exists and I applaud ninja theory for having the courage to build a gib budget game around such a challenging subject. I consider my own issues to be minor compared to what some people experience, especially those who lose their grip on what is real and what isn’t. My heart goes out to anybody that is struggling with mental illness of any sort.
Hold strong friend, the world is different for us with mental disabilities, we just have to take it one step at a time.

I’ve got schizoaffective disorder (bipolar). I don’t even hear voices or see things, but it’s torture when I’m disorganized and delusional. I also feel bad for those who cannot decipher what’s real and what’s not.
@@SethAcreman yeah man I feel like any form of the disorder has to be tough. It’s really difficult to treat and also difficult and costly to diagnose.
as much as i love your videos and love senua's sacrifice, i have my own experiences with psychosis (PTSD/med induced) and i couldn't get through 20 minutes before a panic attack began. so i wish you good luck on this hellish journey and will let others experience it.

I am so glad they came out with a second game! I started watching the first way back when, but it was at the height of my unmedicated OCD and it was too familiar so I had to stop. I just finished watching your play through now that I’m able and it was awesome getting to step right into the next chapter of the story!
I do hope you're gonna continue this and not just leave it as a teaser, excited for more!

Holy shit, that fight with the slaver was so intense, I don't normally get that into watching videos but my heart was pounding.
I like how the voices have kind of become a monstrous cheerleading squad. Interesting to see a psychotic person with that much confidence.
After watching for a while, I just realized this game has no UI. None of any kind. Thats wild for a game.

@@mikopo88 People need to understand that "game" is a very broad term. Everything from Tetris to The Walking Dead classifies as a game. That also means that not everyone will enjoy everything. This might not be for you, but it might be the best game ever to someone else.

I'm so pumped for this, Odd! I loved the playthrough in 2017.
This was a delicious surprise before my daily feats of XCOM. This is the first time I seen this. I'm very impressed, because to take players into Senua's inner state, is not only enlightening, but testing the player on another level. And the combat is so realistic and truly visceral. If the rest of the episodes are like this one, it might be a candidate for Game of the Year. It's something very different, but in a good way. Thanks. I'll be watching.

Oh this is amazing! Please do the entire game! I've already watched the gameplay you have out twice, so far. SO happy you encouraged headphones... the sound design is flawless. This game isnt meant to be a God of War clone or anything. Its art, its story telling and world buiding... Not about the gameplay per se. What a title..Also, quick correction, this and the original game is not meant to simulate psychosis but schizophrenia; while the two have some overlap, they are two different things for sure

I watched your playthrough about a year ago. I decided to buy the game, it was available on GOG and I followed your advice about the headphones and so. You were exactly right; just awesome. Unfortunately, the combat difficulty was almost too much. I was able to finish, but decided any sequel may be beyond may ability to finish. So I’ll have to see if that’s the case watching your playthrough.

the prequel of this is best indie game I've ever played for sure the story and boss fight and fight mechanic very unique also the puzzles

I remember in the original game, one of the first credits was to a mental health consultant. The developers had also done extensive interviews with several patients who suffer from schizophrenia so as to get Senua's character as accurate as possible! It was quite amazing for a game developer to have done that. I wonder if they talked to anyone again for this one?

So I've been diagnosed with what's called "simple type" schizophrenia. Which basically means it's all the negative symptoms of schizophrenia without the positive symptoms. The negative symptoms of schizophrenia are more akin to extreme treatment resistant depression whereas the positive symptoms are the symptoms schizophrenia is famous for such as the hallucinations, delusions, etc. What I can say is that the negative symptoms are hell. And if the negative symptoms are hell I can only imagine what they're like combined with the positive symptoms.
This is the First truly next Gen Game

If I remember from the "making of" from the first part. They used multiple microphones in the center, and they walked in a circle around it. Coming closer and getting further away.

Oh my deities. Senua II. The game which displayed psychosis detailed enough to make non-psychotic people understand it. I hope once there will be a positive representation of psychosis in gaming as well, but the first Senua is already a masterpiece.

While I was watching the beginning of this game, I realized how much the voices actually affect me. They build up my anxiety a bit. I don't know why. It's uncomfortable for sure. Maybe because I'm not used to it or because there's so much stress, pressure, and other things going on in Senua's head. Sometimes, at the end of the day, I feel like I did something wrong, and I wonder how I could change it or what would make me feel better during that day, etc. It's not the same as Senua, who hears voices all the time. I will be watching this walkthrough because the game it self is amazing.

As much as this looks amazing, I just can't stand the verbal thoughts, and all the inner monologue, it reminds me of the game "Corvus", it just kept saying what I wanted to do before I did it, it completely takes out the immersion, just before you make a decision to go do a task, a voice tells you "Go do that task" so now it feels like it was not me who did it. Imagine a game where there are zombies and when you see a zombie, a game voice says, kill that zombie..... and then another zombie comes out, and the voice says, kill that zombie!... over and over
That's because this game demands more than you just beat it. It demands that you understand more fully the character you are performing. How do you hold on to yourself when you are never alone, and when the voices are like a labyrinth, where your hopes and fears, your weaknesses and strengths exist to be found? Look at the combat. Have you ever had to fight like that? Probably not. So, you will, if you stay the course, become more knowledgeable and more wiser than before.
To be fair Hellblade I and II are games made as educational tools more than entertainment. Tired of those voices annoying you whilst playing the game? Congratulations, you just experienced what someone with major disorders such as Schizophrenia, goes through on a daily basis. It's brilliant and does exactly what it was designed to do.
@@CuriousCrow-mp4cx I think you missed my point, its not that the player needs to understand, its that the player already understands and does not need to be told what to understand. Here is an example, the player falls into an icy lake and gets out, you see the breath in the wind, the clothes are dripping wet, the player shivers... Why would I need a voice over saying, "-I'm so cold, I need warmth" . Subtlety is the language of understanding

I've had some close calls in open water before, at least enough to give me pause. This game is amazeballs
I really liked "the Northman" as a 2 hours and change movie, but I'm not sure about 10-15 hours of this being fun to play. Then again it's probably not the point of this game, despite the shiny AAA presentation.
Even if it's not my cup of tea, it's a good thing games like this can still be made, and I hope it will sell enough to prevent Microsoft from shutting the studio down (no guarantee even then if recent events are any indication).

there never was a "permadeath" mechanic in the first game, they only wanted to up your anxiety and make you believe in something that doesn´t exist... just like senua
