23’ JSU is just another level… That dark clean and smooth sound. Their Book for 23’ was awesome. I’m really excited to see 24’ season, and I want to see how other bands react, especially Southern considering the fall out from that BOTB.
We have to really give our young musicians flowers, the students and the instructors. These students are learning new arrangements daily and executing on a high level while balancing there educational curriculum. My daughter played in the Boom, I played in the Boom. The struggle is real! THEE I LUV! Go Tigers!
ESPN is clueless. They should never be allowed to judge a band contest again. They sinned in the worst way, in front of the whole world. ESPN should make a big donation to the SBOTS and send a letter of apology, for this grave injustice. Especially, after the “Rose Bowl” commentators said the other band was chosen 14 months earlier. They supposedly had many car washes, and sold chicken dinner’s to get to Pasadena. However, congratulations to them.

A lot of times when you cover your ears in a close setting like that, it's to cut out the extra overtones/reverb/etc to hear attacks and all the individual notes clearly

my bad KB, i thought you knew about it. this was insane and Trin said he had to turn the volume down on the video because of how loud they were in the auditorium. but this was just the rehearsal and they went crazy, they went even more crazy at the BOTB and didn't get to crank "Good & Plenty"
The best band in the country and it aint even close. The arrangements were strong. If there’s any criticism at all it is simply that it was a tad bit overblown in places where the melody was drowned out by sheer brass bulk. That said, there’s no messing with JSU

I was referring to technically when I made those comments. Jackson State has their own unique style of arranging that’s definitely set them apart. I enjoy both styles honestly. But I can definitely hear some JSU influences in SU arrangements now ie Tubas parts. Iron sharpens iron. 😉
Boy you better go back to the 80s and 90s and do your homework lol boom has their own sound and identity no need to arrange or copy su when they arrange better than SU majority of the time
