Good to have a feeding frenzy once in a while.
I'm glad the pet store was able to donate the crickets. This reminds me of the time I was called to a conference call to explain how many nylon bowl scraper our bakery would use in a year. Apparently another bakery in our area accidentally ordered 500 bowl scrapers instead of 5. Oops. So I requested 20 since we were receiving them at a discount. I didn't need to order them for several years. Happy accidents.
There were more turtles than I realised! WOOOAAH
I once ordered a 1000 crickets 🦗 and somehow when they got to my very small post office, they escaped and... well you can imagine 😂
Lol it's bad enough when one get's out & hides somewhere & starts singing all night.
I'm glad that's never happened with our bees. I don't think the post office would forgive us.
I bet you heard a lot of chirping
Oh they didn’t. 😁 they told me they would no longer accept crickets 🦗 for me. I totally understand tho it wasn’t my fault. Another time I got a brown recluse 🥳 yah surprises
@@lisaenglert3202 what is a brown recluse?
What an offer to be called about! Oh hey so we have these crickets....
"And we accidentally ended up with 7,000..."
‘I CAN’T BELIEVE I ATE THE WHOLE (box of crickets)!”
Are there any animals you have had to turn away because of allergies that you or your staff and volunteers have? How do you deal with allergies or allergies that come up after interacting with the animals?
I'm guessing antihistamines and epipens are always around just in case and there are enough people working there to take care of only the animals they're not allergic to
After years of working closely with many different animals, I've developed allergies to many of them. I use several kinds of antihistamine medications to control my reactions as well as using clothing like masks or long sleeves to prevent the reaction from occurring. -Jessi

I love the more frequent uploads!
Leonard looks like a man was turned into a snake lizard hybrid. Would love to see a video about him.
There are at two video about him!! (Well at least two that feature him primarily.) He’s definitely one of my favorites. I just searched and one of them is called “Holding a Legless Lizard” (which is a fairly amazing title honestly.) The other is called “The Difference Between Legless Lizards and Snakes.”
That was super adorable 💙
I caught a couple tree frogs and kept them as my cat’s pets. My cat loved sitting on the table and watch them, so I made it a long-term commitment of having to run to the pet store at more frequent intervals than before. I purchased a separate container for just the live critters. First, I tried all dead and dried critters but the frogs wouldn’t touch it after eating them the first day. I switched to the meal worms, feeding them a few per day.
It was too hard fitting feeding frogs into my varied work schedule so I tried just dumping all of them in the terrarium and, to my relief, it worked. The frogs only ate a couple each day and never gorged. I switched to crickets to see how they liked the change and they only had a problem once the crickets were in there so long that they grew larger than the male could fit into his mouth. Anyway, after having them for almost 3 years, I put in a new batch of crickets and a couple days later came in to top off their water dish and both of my cat’s frogs were dead. I think it must have been some virus or bacteria the new batch of crickets had since they both died at the same time.
Has anyone experienced a bad batch of crickets before?
I'm sorry I can't answer your question but the fact that you call the frogs your cat's pets instead of your pets is freaking hilarious. I've never heard of a pet having a pet. I love it.
I wonder if the ravens would eat crickets? Certainly the chickens would love them!
The ravens did get some of the crickets! We gave them a nice bowlful.
Why was that so fun to watch??! The happy music?! Loved it!❤️
Didn’t know foxes ate insects.
Good sources of protein for them.
yep. bugs, birds, frogs, most things small enough for them to snag. even fruits and cheese. When my cherry tomatoes are getting ripe, if I notice a fox around I'll start putting out little offerings for it. Keeps it full enough to not bother with them, and it occasionally wandering by keeps the rabbits from setting up shop.
Foxes are just like big ol' cats
Foxes are omnivores, they eat pretty much anything they can digest :-)
I was surprised she ate crickets too.
I love how Jade gets her food served on a real plate.
And she's so dainty when eating!😍
Brilliant video, I never really thought about foxes eating crickets but that but made my day 😂🦊👍
Lol! Seraphina was like a vacuum cleaner when she was eating those crickets!
What about the birds? I'm sure the ravens would love some crickets; and all the parrots, too, maybe...?
Can parrots eat bugs?
As far as I can tell, it isn't an ideal food for them. They can eat them though, and based on a quick google search it seeks there are plenty of bug-hungry parrots lol
@@jasper3706 Are they too much protein, or not enough nutrients?
African parrots eat molluscs in the wild, and cockatoos look for insect larvae on occasion.
Just out of curiousity, to produse those half inactive crickets, do you put them in the fridge to chill them?
not sure if that's how SHE does it, but can confirm it does work. Crickets can survive for a couple days in the fridge, and even an hour or two in the freezer won't kill most of them. it basically just messes with the hemolymph they use instead of blood, makes it pool and they freeze like they're hibernating. too long will kill them, but if you do it in short bursts they'll start twitching again in a few moments. Given how just some were twitching thier legs, I'd wager that's what she did
@@maromania7 Wow verry cool! Thanks for sharing your knoledge, i learned a new trick today! Thank you so much!
Does depend on the species though, my local pet shop switched suppliers and it was a different species and they just can't handle the cold. 😕
@@user-lguqrux That is verry true! Thanks for sharing your knowledge! There are two (at least in north america) species of criquets kept as food supplies. And many many other species out there. So it is logic that some handle cold more then others.
Can you start a sustainable cricket colony, or is that impractical?
We could! But it would take space that we just don't have. Also, we'd have top have an employee dedicated to their care since I (Jessi) couldn't manage them due to my allergies. We're hoping to work with Cowboy Cricket Ranch in the future since they have a great thing going on and they're fairly close to us.
@@animalwondersmontana just for curiosity, are you allergic to specific bug feces? I remember seeing you with the madagascar hissing corckroaches and you didn't wear a mask with them?
@@eugenio5774 At this point I'm allergic to the feces of all the insects we have. The episode with the cockroaches was a few years ago and I wasn't as reactive then. I used to be able to handle them as long as it was quick and I wasn't breathing right near their open enclosure. Luckily, there are several employees that can manage their care and enclosures besides me. I can still do it, I just need to have a mask, gloves, and long sleeves on.
@@animalwondersmontana I see! it's really a good thing that you have other colleagues that can take care of the insects, it would be really a pity if Animal Wonders couldn't provide care for them. but you absolutely need to take care of your health first: if you didn't, you wouldn't be able to take care of any other animal! keep up the good job!
Sometimes, we all just need a cricket party.
I'm two weeks late on feeding my tarantulas because of COVID, glad to see you aren't having this issue with your own animals!
Is there a shipping problem where you are?
Hopefully you're able to find someone that can ship you a batch of crickets! If you live in the US let me know if you need a recommendation :)
@@SenshiSunPower It's illegal to ship animals over here.
@@animalwondersmontana Thank you, unfortunately i'm nowhere near the US, I live in Hungary, and here it's illegal to ship vertebrates to end customers, and most if not all companies use this law as a blanket rule for every animal, invertebrates alike, so it's either a store visit for me, or I'm not getting anything with a heartbeat. The very few specialist shops I can find that make exceptions for invertebrates they sell as feeder animals are out of stock. My go-to store promised to restock this week though.
Enjoy your crickets lil' buddies!
It's nice to have a treat day like that! I'm sure the animals love it! The crickets...not so much.
I used to catch the big grasshoppers that love locally in the Chicago burbs and feed them to my pet western box turtle. He loved those things. Way bigger than crickets; I had to hold them by their back legs so they he could get to em. Funny thing about him was he'd eat anything but leafy greens.
Oh my, they do love their crickets! They're all wonderful but little Miss Ophelia stole my heart!
I'm very happy for them getting extra snacks! Hooray!!
What a great treat for your animals!
I'm so glad they aren't going to waste!
Y'all do such an amazing job.
All of your charges looked so happy with their extra goodies.
Thanks for sharing!
Long time owner of a bearded dragon who are lots of living bugs with her greens.
These are good eating for people too! Seriously! If eating shrimp doesn't weird you out, give them a try. They're excellent in a stir fry. Like little land shrimps.
The phrase “little land shrimps” makes me ridiculously happy 😆 😂 I love it
We gonna have a cricket party.
Crickets: Yay!
... oh ... wait ...
* Speaks kindly to the crickets *
* Feeds them to the animals *
Circle of life man 😂everything is beautiful but also delicious I guess
@@madelinemcdonald2609 We're all yummy to something!
Jasper Stuart 😂 i needed that. Thank you.
2:52 happy turtle, yum
That’s was super fun and weird and i am all for it!!
I work at a pet store and boy am I familiar with those boxes. Awesome that you could give everyone bonus treats. ❤
This was awesome! Thanks for sharing
Your channel is absolutely the purest thing on the internet
No crickets were harmed in the making of this video.
My favorite was the turtles having a cricket salad! I give you props for hand feeding your animals! Crickets give me the heebie jeebies!
Still a lower kill count than John Wick. 😆
😂
It was sad seeing a type of animal die but it was fun and satisfying
This made me so happy! Thank you!
Nice to see the animals so happy 😋
Thank you for showing us the reptiles again. I was wondering if you could give us an update on Loki and Savanna. I'm really curious about them, especially if they've grown out of their enclosures yet. What are some of the challenges about caring for those lizards? What do you enjoy about caring for them? What are some of the mundane aspects involved in their care?
After such a cricket orgy, all the animals are in a food coma 😂😂
this was awesome. i hope they got a few cricket parties!
Would love a follow up video with a different crop of critters, since it will take a couple weeks to work through all those crickets. Ophelia was my favorite so far!
When I clicked this I assumed it would be a video about another aspect of Animal Wonders life, the cricket breeding and how many crickets you need to feed all the animals. Nope. Surprise package, crickets. Enjoy the bounty of the day.
Great fun Jessie. 👍😉
Greetings from Denmark
👍🇩🇰👍🇺🇸👍
cricket party! crunch em up
Haha I just bought crickets today to feed to my monitor tomorrow, so I couldn't hear your crickets over my crickets!
I bet you could just load your savannah monitor up on crickets. I got one of those super huge storage tubs after Xmas on sale, and I put my savannah monitor in it and let him go to town chasing crickets. Great investment, he was getting too big for regular large storage tubs. I usually feed him like 50 crickets.
Oh, what a bonus for you guys!!
Woww! Its seems like someone of your animals are going to have a party lol!
Those are some happy critters!
Did not know foxes ate crickets!
Seraphina was so fast at eating those crickets!!
Our cats used to go after the camel crickets in our basement. I would find these odd black bugs and couldn't figure out what they were. It wasn't until I started spotting discarded cricket legs then counted and saw that the strange bugs had only four legs that I realized that she was catching them and pulling off their noisy back legs.
I imagine the abundance of crickets might imitate a seasonal hatch for the animals?
Talk about a field day ☺️❤️
Perhaps you could make some sort of cricket orchestra. 🤔
There's something so interesting to me about watching insectivores eat. 😮
Thanks for sharing. 😊
💜💚
Aww, they all looked like they really enjoyed the extra protein!
I Love Phoenix’s eye colour its such an interesting shade
Wow 4!000 crickets. These animals sure will get fed up over corona virus! 😂
Awesome Video Jessi ::) Thanks so much
Cricket Moses: "Let my crickets go."
I've never seen tortoises look so happy having a cricket salad, lol.
The biggest surprise to me was Seraphina! I had no idea that foxes ate insects like crickets. She was all over those!
I enjoyed that a lot more than I thought I would.
Hi Jessi, I have just gotten my first parrot. Actually I was expecting 1 but my parents surprised with 2 peach face lovebirds. They are so scared and they are fully flighted what do you recommend me doing.
You must have so many crickets 🦗 around your house!
i love that they’re “perishable” lmao yes they are alive, most alive things are perishable
That’s a lot of crickets 🦗🦗
SO MANY CRICKETS!!!!!
SMORGASBORD! :)
Thats a lot of crickets
Just out of curiosity what did you do to make the crickets calm for the animals that don’t necessarily chase them down. Put em in the fridge? They were bouncing all over the place for the fox but just hanging out on the plates for the reptiles.
I know it's just because we don't have them here being utter pests, but I low key love opossums.
Maranatha!
That’s a lot of crickets
3:05 - Seeing animals eat chunks of dead meat is worse than watching them kill the live crickets? 🤨 ¬_¬
some people feel as though turkeys and other animals that are harvested for meat are more intelligent than insects like crickets so that bothers them more.
@@dankblonde7173 they are more intelligent
I was going to ask the same thing
How do you get the crickets to stop moving without killing them do you sedate them or something?
Twas a dark day for many a cricket...
#CricketParty2020
it's like watching Dragons.
Such a feast! Such happy animals! They eatin' raw meat? So does my kitty, what about it? I think the crickets also count as raw. XD
It's probably not good to give your cat raw meat except as an occasional snack, despite what raw cat food companies claim (cause they're obviously an unbiased source XD) cats and dogs can get plenty of different infectious diseases from raw food, like e coli and salmonella, and it can be deadly for the poor babies.
@@jasper3706 a raw diet is pretty damn healthy for cats and dogs and you don't need to buy from a company. You can make the food yourself. There are ways to make sure salmonella and e.coli aren't present. The animals' coat just looked amazing when they are on a raw diet plus their poop doesn't stink and they just look happier and healthier
yum ❤️🦗
What do you do to make the crickets not move so much for some of the animals?
I didnt realize you guys had so any reptiles
How did you prep the crickets for the box turtle and lizards? The crickets looked stunned.
I'm guessing they were pre-killed. Having watched another channel, because of how insect nervous systems work, they're dead but still moving, and I'm guessing that's what happened to all crickets for the the non-Serafina animals too.
Freezer.
I havent watches this channel in a while
I have a pixie frog and it name is also jabba
I LOVE OPHELIA 😭
"How much do you think... a box of crickets cost?"
I miss seeing u!
hi!
Hi!
okay then haha
Animals eating raw meat isn’t an issue for me; the insects being on and mixed with the meat, on the other hand, looks disturbingly like decay, even though I know everything is fresh, and they’re crickets, not maggots.
Nillie I am surprised to learn that its warented a warning.
@@Arthera0 I was surprised as well ! but I think it's for the best, more and more people try to live a no-kill lifestyle nowadays so it's nice of Animal Wonders to warn them of something that could upset them
People can eat crickets too...
How many did you have, Jessi? I bet there are a few good recipes out there..
LOL
They're a bit small, aren't the crickets people eat a little... meatier? I guess you can't be picky if you're starving though lol
Hahah. Did Pearl bite her plate?
So, did they donate them to you or did you have to pay for them (at a discount if so )
They donated them!
@@animalwondersmontana good! I was about to be very disappointed if they made you pay for them!
Does mimi do something with crickets? Or do they scare her?
Why the crickets you fed the reptiles seemed half-dead while the ones for the fox were active?
She probably froze them to keep them from running away since the reptiles eat slowly.
@@hajarmdn4883 Oh I see, that makes sense
I didn’t know that fox’s 🦊ate crickets 😮😲
