So nice to see this. My sons dad walked out on us when it was time to teach him how to drive, keep up with a bank account, and so many more things he needed to learn. I naturally took over the best I could and I myself learned a ton of things from my own father (mom too). The only thing I just couldnât teach him was how to tie a tie. So I took him to Dillardâs and a very sweet man who worked in the shoe department spent 45 minutes showing him how to do it. So I guess I really didnât need him all that much but Iâm sure my son wouldâve appreciated him finishing the job he started. Itâs the least he owed him.

I saw my father on weekends growing up. We played catch and would go to movies and stuff but he never taught me anything. Most of the time (90%) he would just be drunk with his brother who lived with him. I ended up joining the marines after high school and afterwards got a degree and joined the trades and started my own business. I also had to learn everything on my own and through trial and error. My grandfather was abusive and died before I was born but I assume my father thinks he at least did better than his father which is true. I appreciate the help this guy is giving to everyone out there. What a time where we can learn everything from CZcams and the kindness of strangers.
@@MK-hw2ir An actual trade i.e. plumber, electrician, hvac, welder, ect. Being a license holder. When he says "trades" means he holds more than one license. Big misunderstanding for the younger generation is that they need to go to college and get a degree and excel in that field. When you can actually take another path and become a tradesman. Believe it or not. Most tradesmen make more money than people with degrees. Doctors, dentist, vets, and lawyers (eventually) will make more money. But tradesmen are then ones working on the infrastructure of the country (hence the licenses). Degree holders also serve the purpose of being able to communicate projects and critically think around problems. Doesn't mean one is better than the other. A doctor can learn to repair a car. Just like a mechanic can learn to operate. They just took different paths in life for the license to practice their profession.

My own dad taught us, my siblings and I, all how to cook. He was always the one that taught us life skills like cooking and cleaning because thatâs what he did. He was the stay at home parent in my early childhood, only returning to work once my youngest sibling was finally in school. Even so, his hours were arranged so he could drop us off and pick us up for the first few years of that before my parents opted for daycare. It wasnât until my siblings and I became adults and met other people in our life that come from completely different lives and childhoods that we realized the impact our dad had and all the skills he taught us and how it improved our quality of life upon moving out. My dad is a brilliant man, not a very good handyman but very good with other skills and a math and science genius. He instilled in us a strong sense of morals too. Yes he has his faults (his martyr habit for one though he has gotten better about it, progress). But he is still an amazing dad and person. Becoming an adult has definitely given me a new perspective and appreciation for the impact a dad has on his childrenâsâ lives. I see it even more so looking at my nephew and his mom, my sister. Sheâs not a sister of blood. Sheâs one we unofficially adopted many many years ago when we were kids. Her mom and my parents were friends. At some point she was living with us. We had already decided she was our sister and made that very clear. She had her parents but my siblings and I were more than happy to share ours too. Her parentsâŠwell her mom tried her best but she had many demons to face down and it made her life miserable and definitely made my sister suffer for it, having to take on responsibilities and deal with situations she should never have had to. Her dad was by far worse. He was a nightmare of a parent and abusive. My sister is now completely no contact with him. Her mom passed away in a robbery. My parents have been by her side this whole time though. My sister makes it very clear that she adores the attention our father gives her son. Sheâs knows there is no blood relation tying us but for her, she told me, that makes it all the more appreciated. My dad is a good grandfather and father to my nephew and my sister. After the situation with her ex husband she has made it clear she appreciates it even more. She may have a new partner now, one by far a better figure in her sonâs life (he calls her partner dad now), but she says that she appreciated that our father was there for her son to show him what a good man looks like. My nephew still thinks my dad is a super hero. He adores my dad. My dad shows him every day that being smart, being strong, and still doing basic caregiving actions can all come together and you can still be a good man. You arenât lesser for them. My nephew loves to garden and cook now. His favorite dish to make right now is pancakes but he is 5. We will get him making more complex recipes soon enough. We bought him his own sized kitchen utensils and everything. Dad taught my nephew knife safety and care when it comes to good kitchen knives (dad has chef quality knives due to his cooking passion). My nephew soaks it up each time. My dad and my nephew just spent two hours yesterday playing with different puzzle boxes and figuring them out. My dad may not be good with a lot of tech, mechanical, or handyman stuff, be he is a very learned man. My dad has also started teaching my nephew the basics of meditation and martial arts, both of which my dad is very skilled with. I know my dad doesnât sound much like a traditional dad but I really appreciate him. He is such a good man and such a good dad too. Iâm glad to be his kid. I know my siblings share the sentiment.
Yeah, people act like women are somehow too stupid to teach these things, but really we just donât know because we were never taught. Thereâs more and more women every day who wear suits, work on cars, and other things that used to be alien to us, because of dumbass gender roles. Now we are learning and can teach these skills to both our sons AND daughters. The people who claim you NEED a father figure in the house always end up revealing that they just hate women, lol like clockwork.
I love this man. I grew up without my dad and I this guy him years go. He's definitely helped me with some tasks around the house and on my car. Plus he's an awesome guy

Him and Beleaf in Fatherhood
I saw my father on weekends growing up. We played catch and would go to movies and stuff but he never taught me anything. Most of the time (90%) he would just be drunk with his brother who lived with him. I ended up joining the marines after high school and afterwards got a degree and joined the trades and started my own business. I also had to learn everything on my own and through trial and error. My grandfather was abusive and died before I was born but I assume my father thinks he at least did better than his father which is true. I appreciate the help this guy is giving to everyone out there. What a time where we can learn everything from CZcams and the kindness of strangers.
What does that mean? âJoin the tradesâ

Go BROTHER my father left when I was 2 , but I was lucky enough to have a "DAD" step in and raise me. Thank You. MR. JAMES CLARK !
Wow your dad Seems like an amazing person we need more good non abusive dads like yours and mine
