Here’s the second part of my @betitanfit wall mounted tower project. It has two pulleys, I’ve connected one to my belt squat and now the other to my leg curl / extension machine. It’s a pretty simple modification and makes the leg curl / extension machine much more effective.
I didn’t come up with the idea of hooking this type of machine to a pulley system. I’ve seen quite a few iterations over the last few months. I just took that idea and ran with it.
Thanks to @garagegymjunkies @homegym.germany @homegymhangout @geeedup1 and James McGuire for inspiring me on this one.

I saw one video where a guy added a 25 or 35 lb weight plate to the removable pin to keep the weight lever arm at 45 degrees at the bottom of the movement. Seems like a simpler solution to the problem. Thanks for posting so many enjoyable videos. I got the Fringe Belt Squat and I love it.
I do the same thing with a 25 lb plate on mine, but I'm gonna try this out ASAP to make changing weights and switching between leg curl and leg extension easier. Hoping it evens out the resistance curve too.
Thank, Kyle! 👏🏾 👏🏾 Good stuff, as always!
Great idea! I would always use a band so I could have tension all the way through the movement
That works too!
There's tension throughout the movement if you slowed the eccentric down
Brilliant idea. I think I would keep the weight lever arm at a higher angle so that there is more pressure at the bottom of the movement. Then the pulley prevents you from losing pressure at the extension
The main value in adding the pulley underneath the loadable sleeve is for the hamstring curl- this way you wouldn’t need to turn the machine around. Well done buddy
Thanks!
What brand machine is this?
Awesome idea!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great idea. Saw a similar idea somewhere else recently but adding the pulley wheel is a great idea. How do you like the valor machine? It's so much cheaper than titan now.
I actually have an XMark machine. I love it.
Thanks went back and forth between XMark and Bulletproof Isolator but don't have room on rack for it and don't really want to spend to buy new rack or extend current one or use their stand.
I plan to use this for light extensions/curls to help knees on off days and on leg days will hook this to cable system like you showed. I've been going back and forth on this for about a month your video solved it! Thank you, always brilliant!@@KaizenDIYGym
Dude thank u. Im getting one of these leg machines I have a pulley system totally doing thins thank u.
Sweet!!
Thanks!
I was thinking of a way of getting it to have constant tension like this!
Yeah, it works great!
amazing
Just to let everyone know, this doesn't really change the resistance profile all that much. The pulley is directly below the pivot point and acts the same as gravity and isn't much different to the weights. It would be much better to hook it up directly to the cable machine so that the cable is pulled while the weight is at the bottom. This way as the weight moves higher its resistance increase, where as the cables resistance is highest at the bottom and decreases.
I’m sorry man, I appreciate you watching and everything but your comment is factually incorrect.
Having the pulley directly under the pivot point is what improves the resistance profile. Adding cam would make it even better but this is already a huge improvement.
@@KaizenDIYGym It may improve it slightly but it does what I said it does (pulls in a similar way to weights alone). It will peak when perpendicular to the pulley and drop off as it gets to the top but you can set tyhe weights to do this already. I am a mechanical engineer, so up to you if you want to take my advise on or not. All the best.
@@fifis101 except the tension has changed
Which is WHY he uses BOTH the cable and the weights! Nobody thinks this is a 100% replacement for a commercial piece but the XMark has decent footprint and he could use the 25/35lb hack as well to improve this but I suspect he tried it and this is GOOD. I have Bells of Steel rack mounted one and also use combo of my Athena cables and weight and it DOES give resistance at the bottom. It's not perfect I realize its limitations as well but its fantastic. I just hate putting it up and down on rack so will sell it and get this. With Athena I can add bands to weight stack as well which will make this a little better.@@fifis101
Assuming this is better then the Titan leg combo?
This also lowers the weight your actually doing though because on the leg extension the plate is acting downward and the cable machine is being pull up which basically cancels out most of the weight
👍
This 👌
Thanks bro!
So why are you adding weight? Wouldn't the cable provide the resistance?
Adding the weight is completely optional. Now that I have this set up I'll use it with and without weight on the sleeve for some variety.
@@KaizenDIYGym just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I was planning on doing some thing similar. Thanks for the how to.
man, this is neat. How's the stretch at the start?
Toughts on making a CAM to make this better?
It’s pretty great. You can also adjust the leg pad to give yourself more stretch.
As for the cam, I’ve thought about it but for now doesn’t seem completely necessary.
Do you feel any imbalance while performing the exercise as weight is only on one side?
Nope
How much doe metal and working on cost?
I already owned the bench, adding the pulley wheel was $15. The cable I see was $10
What brand is the leg extension/ leg curl machine?
Mine is Xmark
Kaizen which pulley is that and where can I buy it?
This is from Titan (titan-fitness.pxf.io/ORNWqA) but I actually prefer the pulley tower from Bells Of Steel (www.bellsofsteel.us/#a_aid=Kaizen)
where did you get the tools and wires?
Everything is listed in the description of this tutorial: czcams.com/video/BXm5zB9wL_A/video.html
Nice easy way to get the consistent tension. What type of leg curl/extension machine is that (I can't read the badge too well)?
It’s the Xmark seated leg curl / leg extension machine. I love it.
@@KaizenDIYGym It looks pretty nice for a home gym model. Appreciate the reply.
What does this do? Im lost
Creates consistent resistance rather than the variable resistance typical of this style of machine
I dont know if i should get this over bullet proof isolator? My main purpose for getting isolator is for leg work too and all the extras are good i guess
If the Isolator is in your budget, I’d say go for it
I really want the isolator and then to hook it to my drop in rhino. Any suggestions? Overall just trying to game a way of doing seated leg curls and extensions using the rhino. Open to any suggestion you have and the simpler the better.
@@bazintrickways3045 I am trying to figuer out exacly the same thing
This is So unncessary. All you had to do was move the pin so the starting point of the weight is NOT at the very bottom. Then you have tension throughout the entire time
Totally
For those who have selectorized cable systems this makes it easy to do drop sets faster. Sure you can toss 10s on floor quickly too but then have to clean them up easier to just move a pin.
Man I would love to have the space you have. My gym is 64squarefeet.
Thanks, yeah I feel very fortunate to have my space
