  • Eddie Jones has been left embarrassed after footage emerged of the England head coach making inappropriate comments about Ireland and Wales. The video shows Jones giving a talk on leadership for Fuso, the Japanese parent company of England sponsors Mitsubishi. He tells the audience: 'We’ve played 23 Tests and have only lost one Test to the scummy Irish. I’m still dirty about that game.' Earlier in the talk, Jones discusses Japan's under-20 side losing to their Welsh counterparts after he took over. He said: 'Wales. Who knows Wales? Are there any Welsh people here? So it’s this little shit place that has got three million people. Three million!.' In his apology, released by the Rugby Football Union, Jones said: 'I apologise unreservedly for any offence caused - no excuses and I shouldn’t have said what I did. I’m very sorry.'
Eddie Jones apologises for calling Irish ‘scummy’ and Wales a ‘shit place’

I'm a born and bred Englishman and feel totally ashamed and embarrassed, for myself and fellow countrymen, by the thoughtless, stupid, untrue and most of all grievously offensive remarks made by this nauseating foreign ***** . I will actually be rooting for Ireland this weekend. What a **** we have for a manager

I am not the biggest fan of this guy at times... I'm Irish; but he clearly said these things in jest to get a laugh. When you're in front of a crowd giving a speech it's in human nature to try and deliver some laughs for fear of coming across as boring or uncomfortable. He was obviously smiling as he said them. Are we truly suggesting that we all have never made a slightly risky joke that might inadvertently offend an overly sensitive person? I think people now are too quick to take offence at something so innocuous and blow it out of proportion. If Ricky Gervais made these comments at a gig we'd laugh and move on without so much as batting an eye lid. But because someone in world rugby sees himself as a bit of a comedian and isn't afraid to give off a little bit of playful banter every once in a while we should seize on it as sacrilege? If you watch a lot of his interviews he may be a bit confrontational at times, but often extremely sarcastic and full of banter for the journalists in attendance. Let's not string Eddie up over a throwaway joke.

I am neither Welsh nor Irish nor English - not that it is relevant - and feel Jones should have been sacked instantly as soon as the RFU were aware of his loutish public comments. The hypocrisy is nauseating - had it been an England football manager doing the equivalent, they would have been excoriated, probably amid howls of racism. But a rugby union equivalent can publicly impugn neighbours whose rugby representatives wine and dine him bi-annually and be in charge for the next match - against one of those neighbours. Puke.

No big deal, just banter. I'm Irish, a message to the political correctness nonsense brigade, it's rugby banter.

MegaMegamann1 ooh look at this everyone look lol its an anglo irish turncoat speaking in irish !!!!!
Thats funny because the whole rugby set up and irish rugby supporters back when we were under British rule were extremely notorious sectarian and racist to the normal native irish...
Your family would have looked down there nose on the native irish
Your family were most likely very pro british back in the day
      During the 1916 easter rising
      And war of independence
Your people called themselves BRITISH and sided with the BRITISH !!! Against the irish.
And also the rugby people in ireland were also very anti irish language......they hated the real language......your people are turn coat judas.
So as you can see I find it very very insulting when someone like you
From a ''rugby'' and unionist and pro british background starts speaking in my language.
Your called anglo irish for a reason
      Because your not actually irish
