Hold down the fret as usual, and with your picking hand position your thumb so that when you pick your thumb brushes just slightly against the string almost immediately after the pick does. It will cause a harmonic effect - but usually the best sounding ones are 12, 19, 24, and 31 fret positions above where the fret is. Yeah, you might not have that many more frets, but the effect works past the fretboard, just a ratio of remaining string to the bridge. Speaking of the bridge, the bridge pickup usually does harmonics best.
