I cheered for you both in my soul when you ordered, "clear out", and I watched the tree begin to fall. Not because of progress, or in celebration of the destruction of a tree. I felt elation because it was being done by a man and woman who understood and appreciated their lives, the give and take of nature on this earth, and your honor of life. You proffer a wonderful channel, and it is a privilege to watch. Thank you.
I don't know how they can be so happy for doing this. I am not a tree huger, but man... Such a beautiful tree and who does not like the shade of a tree in a portion of the garden? o.0
These comments are amazing. How does one get upset or angry with what they do on their own property? I am sure a lot of the negative commentators live in the city and have no clue about how many trees were cut down to make their home they live in. I am pretty sure every tree cut was not replaced as well. It is the people that usually do nothing that have so much to say and contribute so little. I saw in the video fences, and structures that tree could have fell on with strong enough wind gusts. Not to mention all the hundreds of other trees in the background that I saw. You people are a real piece of work and big hypocrites at best. You talk like your some environmental activists and yet I am sure you have many things around you and things you use that cause more of a harmful impact on the environment than a single tree getting cut that will be re-purposed to make things out of. To be honest you should not even comment because the device you used to make such comments hurt the environment more by it being manufactured. Mrs W and Cody keep doing what you do. You cant please everyone and I have a special finger for folks like that.
i love watching videos of people cutting down trees the old fashioned way, it restores my hope in humanity when i think all hope is lost because it shows that people are still able to be self reliant, hell anything showing self reliance makes me feel better about this world i live in. keep it up and im glad to hear you guys put the tree to good use too so that way all the tree huggers and hippies have nothing to complain about haha, also so yo had fire wood and everything else that's really more important.
Self reliant, wow. the trees that old will grow back, but not in our life time, people don't get it, it's not about saving the trees or the planet. Both will recover, in time. We will all be dead by then though, it's more about saving us.
igitol What will you wipe your ass with if there are no tree products. you can't use plastic because that comes from oil which is also VERY EVIL and made from dead dinosaurs. I bet you believe in global warming. Remember the earth was in an ice age and then turned back to a jungle long before man was around. Explain that you communist.
Just started watching your channel and absolutely amazed by the quality of videography you put in almost every episode. So many angles, high quality picture, music. Everything is done with such a great taste. As a person who montaged a couple of home videos myself, I know it takes some special love for video art to deliver this kind of output. Absolute pleasure to watch.
Cutting down a tree with a crosscut saw together should be a requirement before getting married. Lumberjacks always give each other a big hug after felling a tree.
Thanks for this one. I'm not a tree-hugger, but something in you has to shed a tear when a magnificent creation like that is felled. Was it beginning to rot and drop branches? I trust that you have put all of the timber to good use.
Fascinating video. Seeing a large tree like that felled, is something I've always wanted to witness. But my favorite part was that beautiful hug at the end; that's what it's all about. Thank you.
Cody, The ending with an awesome hug and a long hug, you must get that picture with just that frame, 8.25 , make it huge, and frame it for the living room. you and Mrs. W. are an awesome team, may every hug that you give her be of the same or better quality, she is a fantastic wife to go out there and stick with it for as long as it took to cut through that old tree. In Indiana they don't get as big as that one or I just haven't seen it yet. there was sure lots of love in that frame !! Great show to the both of you !!
200-300 years ago your state was covered in virgin forest same with the other states around you. There’s a cool old documentary about logging in Michigan that is worth watching just to get a glimpse of the old forests. At a time when everything was done by hand they were cutting a billion board feet of timber a year. And they did that for almost a century, just in Michigan. Check it out. Cheers mate
Great video. Let me see if I have the process down. 1. Girdle the tree 2. Cross cut about 1/3 into the tree (aiming in the direction you want it to fall) 3. Cut that chuck out, with axe or with saw at a diagonal 4. Draw the box? - how do you figure where to draw the box? 5. Cross cut from the other side of the tree, using wedges as you get deeper 6. Stop cutting at the box, and pound the wedges as deep as you can 7. Cut a little more if needed until tree goes down Did I miss anything?
I love watching this video, not only because of the traditional cutting methods, but mainly because I love the end picture of you two embracing. Amazing partnership.
Anyone with an intellect knows we have to manage forests and trees. If done correctly that's GOOD for the forest. Cutting down one tree is not a bad thing in itself.
In forestry management one tree might be stealing all the light so is felled to allow the others to breathe. Pine trees don't grow right next to each other. There are other concerns like disease etc. In this instance they explained they were felling as their family played in this area and it was a safety issue. That's not the same as callously felling a tree for no reason. Have a nice day :)
Look, I'm no tree hugger, I know chopping a single tree isn't going to increase ocean level. But it always saddened me when a tree is cutted for no reason, or for avoidable reasons. This looked like a magnificent healthy tree, and it's kind of sad that instead of adapting to it they decided to cut it off.
Youve got it wrong, Matt. Managing your forest by felling trees is good for production, so its good for you, the land owner. The forest couldn't care less, but in the long run would restore itself better without human interaction. When you have an area of forest that has been managed for production for generations, like almost all of our forests here in Norway the quickest way to grow it is to keep managing it because it can take hundreds of years for a forest to restore its whole ecosystem naturally. Thats why if you leave a deforested area to itself you will not see it grow into anything beautiful for many generations, leading to your exact argument. A managed forest might have a lot of trees, but it truly looks absolutely nothing like a natural forest. I enjoy wood as much as the next guy so Im all for forestry and I dont care what people do in their yards or how landowners manage the ravaged areas they call forests. What I do care about is that we keep monetary interests the fuck away from the very few remaining natural forests we have.
I used to be a tree hugger until I began using saw milled lumber to build permanent outdoor structures and furniture. I then adopted wood as my primary heat source and came to realize just what trees are for. Yes, they produce oxygen and clean the air but so does grass and shrubbery and don't destroy things they fall on after a wind/rain storm. we BUILD things, humans have thumbs,, duhh. YOU build such fine things I cannot fault you for letting in some sun and un-earthing mama's garden she has worked so hard on. I still love trees and I'm grateful for what they provide us too. I not only have opposable thumbs but can hold two opposing thoughts in my head without it popping too.
I was thinking the same thing. There seems to be plenty of space to put a garden elsewhere. But maybe to them, living in the environment that they do, a tree of this size is nothing special. I know I would be hesitant to cut down a healthy tree like that.
Watching you, as a family, take down this huge tree was amazing. It was truly a blessing to see you and your wife celebrate your success with a loving and joyful embrace. Thank you for the example you provide in a world that is increasingly devoid of such positive, Christian influences.
I had a childhood much like this, on my farm with my two brothers and a wood stove for heat, it was an amazing childhood, and we had an amazing family. We were also secular, I became an atheist and most of my family is agnostic. I only bring this up, because I don't understand how you think felling a tree with your family, is a Christian experience...
+Wranglerstar There's a concept known as Slow TV, a strangely popular concept over here in Norway, and I sort of wonder if a video of the full job, interspersed with clips of you talking about the tools and techniques you're using, wouldn't make for an excellent Slow TV show.
Funny caRp Cutting some trees down make the nature stable but... it just 1 tree and it's their decision, maybe they will get that tree to a good use on building and stuff
Now that's what I call some decent amount of firewood! Thank you, tree, for giving these people a warm house. Ps: of course their will always some asshat who has to complain about you felling an old tree. It seems they are forgetting that the stuff their wiping their ass with is made of (old) trees and that schoolbooks are made from (old) trees too. Not to mention a hundred thousands of other basic things too (furniture to be one).

Thank you.
That thing came down like a titan, thanks for filming it for us.
8:16 looks like a call of duty cut scene lmao
This is a way better motivational video than any song or speech I know of.
+Eolian thanks,
+Eolian Its kind of funny how the tree moaned when it fell
Why would you cut this beautiful tree i wish i had a tree like that in my garden.
רועי פורסטר נכוןןןן אחי זה מה שאני חשבתי נודררר
Not sure for it looks like a hazard, there is an structure nearby it could fall on
She did say at the beginning it was cause it was shading her garden
Omg right
Because it’s a vegetable garden dumbass thing they need food to survive.
***** Were the tools machine made in a drop forge and were they cast at all? I mean, unless they were genuinely hand made, this is all just posturing.
tyler hammond LEAD BY EXAMPLE!!!! STOP WITH THE USE OF ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TREE PRODUCTS THEN SPEAK
igitol What will you wipe your ass with if there are no tree products. you can't use plastic because that comes from oil which is also VERY EVIL and made from dead dinosaurs. I bet you believe in global warming. Remember the earth was in an ice age and then turned back to a jungle long before man was around. Explain that you communist.
LOL wtf
Just started watching your channel and absolutely amazed by the quality of videography you put in almost every episode. So many angles, high quality picture, music. Everything is done with such a great taste. As a person who montaged a couple of home videos myself, I know it takes some special love for video art to deliver this kind of output. Absolute pleasure to watch.
The sound when it fell was beautiful. I'd love to know how close it fell to where they had estimated it would
Right where we wanted it! Thankful for that.
Even after the years since this video was made, it still remains one of my favourite videos. Not sure why, but it's just such an amazing video.
the tree falling sounded like my door
Thats was the trees last cries, but your door on the other hand is just farting.
Cutting down a tree with a crosscut saw together should be a requirement before getting married. Lumberjacks always give each other a big hug after felling a tree.
I spent my whole lunch break watching someone cut down a 🌲
Ice wow your lunch break is only 8 minutes and 43 seconds? I don't even think that could count as a lunch break!
Andre Temperatura He watched it 4 times
Andre Temperatura yeah I had to watch it with multiple video filters to see which one made it the best
Ice h🔪
Your internet connection must suck.
I'm nowhere near a tree lover but it was kind of sad to see that beautiful old tree get chopped down
It has to be done
Yeh
Jarvis Lindsay Explain to me why it had to be done?
SaGeMajestic FOR THE GARDEN. LOL
It's going to be cut down sooner or later. Besides. Might be good for them.
Starving kids in Africa could have eaten that tree....
?
Hahahahahahhahha I'm dying
+xxtoxic5777 probs would eat you to
Exactly, do they even know that every 60 seconds in Africa a minute pass?
Blegh if they do it needs to be cut so they can eat it easily
When your timing is a second off

Thanks for this one. I'm not a tree-hugger, but something in you has to shed a tear when a magnificent creation like that is felled. Was it beginning to rot and drop branches? I trust that you have put all of the timber to good use.
that kid wielding an axe has been raised well.
Edit: my heart sank when I saw the amount of likes
B2XD it's called being a country boy,
Ever heard of it?
First time I ever held one I was sixteen, pretty pathetic i know...

This video still makes me choke-up what a great Feeling your Hearts must be Full to each other. My hat's off to you both !
Did you hear that final cry from the tree?
Yep
Yeah, made me sad
What are you implying?
In minecraft i do this with my hands.
Lmao they do, too, just with a tool in their hands.
Its a game
extreme stunts it was a joke
Fikxbv
Lol
What an absolutely gorgeous saw. That one is a Beauty.
You think the saw is beautiful but not the tree? Wow..
:That tree fall look so unnatural in 7:50, I almost expected it will turn into small logs like in the game Forest.
I promise you, I've only watched one tree felling video today and now CZcams has filled my recommendations with these videos hahaha I love it!
Fascinating video. Seeing a large tree like that felled, is something I've always wanted to witness. But my favorite part was that beautiful hug at the end; that's what it's all about. Thank you.
8:05 Any last words...?
Tree: *Groans in Pain*
most underrated comment award.
I think it was moaning in pleasure
watching the similes on both your faces was so satisfying. We city people are missing out.
+Renato da Silveira it was a wonderful day
+Wranglerstar I too want to be off grid. Not easy at all. Your videos are inspiring me all over again.
What a shame to cut such a beautiful tall tree...why just not relocate the garden...HELLOOOO!!!
Cutting a massive tree like that is more fun. Looks like a big bond fire on the horizon.
Absolutely amazing video mate. Love seeing a family together working and love seeing it be done the old way.
1. Girdle the tree
2. Cross cut about 1/3 into the tree (aiming in the direction you want it to fall)
3. Cut that chuck out, with axe or with saw at a diagonal
4. Draw the box? - how do you figure where to draw the box?
5. Cross cut from the other side of the tree, using wedges as you get deeper
6. Stop cutting at the box, and pound the wedges as deep as you can
7. Cut a little more if needed until tree goes down
Did I miss anything?
you got it,
What about the box, though? How do you figure out where to draw it?
I love watching this video, not only because of the traditional cutting methods, but mainly because I love the end picture of you two embracing. Amazing partnership.
Just like how our ancestors use to do it
our ancestors where not as lazy as us
damn right.. kinda wish I lived in that time period
Daniel Trujillo WHAT U WANT TO LIVE WITH NO WIFI right DOCTOR PHILL GET OVER HERE

It was a simpler way of life but more rewarding at the same time. I wish I could've lived during those times too.
Anyone with an intellect knows we have to manage forests and trees. If done correctly that's GOOD for the forest. Cutting down one tree is not a bad thing in itself.
how does cutting one tree benefit the rest of the trees?
In forestry management one tree might be stealing all the light so is felled to allow the others to breathe. Pine trees don't grow right next to each other. There are other concerns like disease etc. In this instance they explained they were felling as their family played in this area and it was a safety issue.
That's not the same as callously felling a tree for no reason. Have a nice day :)
ah, i see. thanks for the nice response :D
Thats one hell of a Christmas tree
I see more comments about all the tree huggers in the comments than I see tree huggers.
Nhan Ngo Because you're late
Perhaps
tree hugger here.
This huge tree is shading my garden, that I put in the shade of the tree.
Right? Why doesn't she just move her freaking garden that tree was alive healthy and beautiful
I was thinking the same thing. There seems to be plenty of space to put a garden elsewhere. But maybe to them, living in the environment that they do, a tree of this size is nothing special. I know I would be hesitant to cut down a healthy tree like that.
One of your best videos yet. Well done. (on several counts)
Watching you, as a family, take down this huge tree was amazing. It was truly a blessing to see you and your wife celebrate your success with a loving and joyful embrace. Thank you for the example you provide in a world that is increasingly devoid of such positive, Christian influences.
Amen to that Terry.
I had a childhood much like this, on my farm with my two brothers and a wood stove for heat, it was an amazing childhood, and we had an amazing family.
We were also secular, I became an atheist and most of my family is agnostic. I only bring this up, because I don't understand how you think felling a tree with your family, is a Christian experience...
well done video.....how long did the felling actually take? thanks
+pfs896 4 hours,
+Wranglerstar There's a concept known as Slow TV, a strangely popular concept over here in Norway, and I sort of wonder if a video of the full job, interspersed with clips of you talking about the tools and techniques you're using, wouldn't make for an excellent Slow TV show.
+Wranglerstar It would take me about 4 minutes with my chainsaw, but other than that nicely done.
+Joe Dirt is so turnt lol I was thinking the same thing
+Ryan Seppanen but that's like saying a marathon would be easier in a car..
How tf did i get here lmao
Epikly_ I know
Perv
same wtf
You asked the question everyone was thinking
+Twincupid 990 same
Why would you cut down such a beautiful tree
It's just 1 tree
Funny caRp Cutting some trees down make the nature stable but... it just 1 tree and it's their decision, maybe they will get that tree to a good use on building and stuff

@@paradox_monke7338 soon everyone will think that 1 tree is a huge gift

What is a hard hat going to do if a giant tree falls on you
its for branches not the tree you doof
Mark Nelson Not a whole shitload, but it would help in case something falls out of the tree or you bring that axe back a bit too far.
Any protection is good protection
-jerryrigeverything
speaking of protection, I would have safety goggles on the boy idk just saying.
The hat would obviously split the tree in half, duh.
That tree is probably older than your great grandfather and they still cut it down, what a shame
@Happy Arnold Why put a garden under a tree to begin with?
@Happy Arnold Kill a plant to make more plants, big brain time.
Owen Willis yeah and in Oregon there’s no shortage of large old trees, get over it.
Owen Willis it was rotten
Read the description before you speak. he said the tree was a safety issue as well.
The beauty of your marriage shows greatly in this video.
People really be disliking these videos while sitting on their wooden furnitures.
That is a BEAUTIFUL thing to see the precision and team work.
This was very nice video and romantic life of a woodworker ✨
You don't know how old this channel is until you see jack
Now that's what I call some decent amount of firewood! Thank you, tree, for giving these people a warm house.
Ps: of course their will always some asshat who has to complain about you felling an old tree. It seems they are forgetting that the stuff their wiping their ass with is made of (old) trees and that schoolbooks are made from (old) trees too. Not to mention a hundred thousands of other basic things too (furniture to be one).
soaringtractor There are always parts of such a tree that can only be used for firewood, trust me. ;)
soaringtractor I think you need to re-read my original post, buddy. ;)
soaringtractor Because you obviously only cared to read my first line and ignored the rest I wrote.
Here, take that L.
Good Christmas tree
Philip Griffin It's not any variety of evergreen.
Little bit to small
Philip Griffin it's probably bigger than the one in the movie The National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation I can't remember the name
awesome view with the camera mounted on the tree.
This is one of the Best Videos you have done!!! The togetherness of the whole family, the team work with your wife, then y’all hugging at the end. After cutting that magnificent tree. The feeling after that accomplishment must had been awesome. Wow, Jack was so young. Thanks for sharing.
Yea, togetherness in killing a healthy tree.. such a bad karma.. 👎
I understand it is your property, and I am no tree hugger, but it feels sacrilegious to me personally to cut down such a beautiful, old tree.
The tree was put on this earth to serve man, given by God, we are stewards of this earth and should use it appropriately and with respect.
God doesn't exist.
Tell Him why you think that.
Well the Bible is bullshit . The story of Jesus is just Horus' ( Egyptian god) story retelled . So ya all believin' in Horus with a fancy name .
***** Lol ok. You dont know me.
is anyone else wondering why they just watched a tree get cut down?
cuz its cool
HEY!!!,Trees produce oxygen
Bruh
Not all of them
So does nearly every plant on the planet
Oi it was cut down for a dumb reason tho
Gill Luka 👏👏👏
I miss this wranglerstar
better question is... how long did it take for that tree to grow that big...
+Adam Chase 250 years
***** 200 million years?
200 million years ago was the end of the Triassic and beginning of the Jurassic era......... There were millions of different multicellular organisms
Human's didn't come into the picture until about 3 million years ago
I just wanted to know how old the tree was.
