    • @markfergerson2145
      @markfergerson2145 Před 20 dny +3

      Fremen stillsuits as described in the books didn’t have filters; they literally distilled water from sweat and urine (and poop in thigh pouches). The salt was collected out of the suit every day but I can’t remember what it was used for. Ventilation wasn’t discussed- I suspect the suit might get a bit stinky.
      But yeah, you’re right. The Hacksmith suit filter would need cleaning or more likely replacing every so often.

  • @Pepesilvia267
    @Pepesilvia267 Před 20 dny +71

    Sweat helps you cool down in the heat. A still suit cannot let moisture out so it’s not allowing any cooling or dissipation of body heat. So how does the suit ensure you don’t overheat and die? If the suit in dune has some magical way to regulate body temp and cool you down, then you aren’t really sweating much. Seems like a better option is a respirator that catches moisture from breathing and a suit that keeps you from sweating.

    • @theleoshowm3010
      @theleoshowm3010 Před 20 dny +13

      im pretty sure that at least in concept of the book the water gets cycled like a heat exchanger. that would clear the "used" water and then as you sweat it would make a new protection.

      @theleoshowm3010 Před 20 dny +7

      oh and on top of that. in the dune universe water is more of an issue than anything else so I think some sort of cooling tech to make it not deadly probably exists.

      @@theleoshowm3010iirc in the Film Theory video about the Stillsuit, they explain that for the innermost layer of the suit, it's a material that's porous enough to allow air to move through it 🤔 And I believe in some cases in the real world, we have these sort of mini-AC units where the tubes move throughout your plate carrier or clothes to mitigate some of the heat. Definitely a fun idea to combine all these into one suit!

    @christophereschbacher424 Před 20 dny +3

    I would like to point out that the book states that it cools the body as well. It also runs from pumps attached to the boot, and the whole thing is powered by your body movement. The stillsuit also requires constant maintenance and is incredibly expensive. Most facilities only have one still suit that is maintained and passed down from generations. It is also primarily made from a plastic material that is a by-product of spice purification. So the suits are literally made of spice.

    The Dune Still suits probably work through capillary action, rather than what you've designed. The materials used in the suit probably made to direct the body moisture to a pack worn on the back where it is turned to vapor and then condensed, while the impurities are expelled through vents or something from the pack, though salt would likely be placed in a separate container.

    Perhaps I missed it... how is it capturing sweat? The condenser is picking up his exhaled breath. I suppose a little of the humid air in the suit itself would come in contact with the cooling fins, but there's no mechanism for circulating air inside the suit and no way to actually capture any liquid from the skin or inner suit surface.

    I definitely think this concept needs a revision much like how the channel has gone back to the Lightsaber and Thors hammer ideas to implement different features and then sometimes merging them together Iron Man armour style. I think a starting point would be seeing if you guys could engineer into a material that when against the skin, can pick up the sweat on the body, absorb it and pump it into small tubes over body, kinda like how astronaut suits use micro-tubes to pump water around the suit to regulate temperature. It might be too costly but if its possible you could legit contribute to science potentially.

    I like the idea, but the condenser is shut off from the rest of the suit and is only concentrated on his breath vapor. I would say he's just drinking mouth water and not even his own sweat. The gloves aren't really open into the suit and are just skin tight trapping the sweat in the gloves with nowhere for it to go, leaving him with prunes for hands.

  • @iandustrial9521
    @iandustrial9521 Před 20 dny +1

    am I the only one who noticed that this is basically just pulling the moisture out of the air that's OUTSIDE the suit and does almost nothing to collect the moisture INSIDE the suit. the only airflow comes from outside and there's nothing circulating the air inside.

    Tbh the concept is cool but a version that does not keep the user as warm as possible while genuinely recycling atleast the sweat if not the urine would be a lot more impressive and probably genuinely useful for desert missions and such, where the ability to bring less water along might make a big difference for military and other outdoors uses
