    People are asking whether Radiomaster is going to release the ELRS module as a drop-in replacement for existing 4-in-1 radios. I don't know if they will do this, but technically it's completely possible and I have encouraged them to do it.

    • @aidanfarley9566
      @aidanfarley9566 Před 2 lety +6

      I really hope so. Having that option would be very nice as I really don't use the 4in1 at all besides occasionally frsky but I want to switch to elrs anyways.

      I just snapped the earth ring of the aerial connecter off my 4in1, I really hope I can just drop in a ELRS internal module.

      Radiomaster have confirmed that they will be offering the internal ELRS module as an upgrade, and that it is compatible with the Mk2 as well as Mk1. It won’t be available for a while, as all the internal modules they are building ATM are going into handsets.

  • @WezleyVarty
    @WezleyVarty Před 2 lety +96

    Radiomaster have once again been an absolute pleasure to work with for their ELRS integration, and have actively assisted with pushing some of the new features forward for the ELRS project (passthrough flashing for example). These handsets have been fully checked and confirmed by the devs PRIOR to release / announcement, and mine has become my exclusive handset for all my wing / plane models. Not hard to see why they are the most popular handset. Nice review JB.

      @jimpratt9520 Před 2 lety +2

      Wesley, what transmitter did you fly planes with prior to the Radiomaster? I Fly helis on Spektrum and Futaba... I am just wondering if I should go ELRS on a Radiomaster and convert everything to ELRS rx's, or go 4in1 and get an ELRS module?

    • @WezleyVarty
      @WezleyVarty Před 2 lety +1

      @@jimpratt9520 I was using a Jumper T16 prior to the RM TX16S. I came from quads, and jumped into wings for long range, so I never really used spektrum or futaba, which is obviously the go to choice for plane guys. The RM is a LOT nicer than the jumper, but I can’t comment on how it compares to a futaba. In terms of internal vs external for ELRS, it really makes no functional difference, so it really just depends on what will suit you better in terms of convenience.

  • @JoshuaBardwell
    @JoshuaBardwell  Před 2 lety +62

    Why can't you have a 5-in-1 module with both ELRS and 4-in-1? After all, Jumper did it with R9 and the T18! The answer is that doing so required the MPM project to integrate the entire code-base of R9 into itself. For MPM to do that with ELRS would be undesirable to both sets of developers. An alternative would be for EdgeTX to add the ability to support more than one internal module. Until this issue is resolved, there won't be any 5-in-1 radios with ELRS inside.

    • @marc_frank
      @marc_frank Před 2 lety +7

      put two modules inside and a physical switch on the back, which connects the wires to either the elrs module or the 4in1

    • @10fantic
      @10fantic Před 2 lety +9

      Yeah I’ll hold off until there is both a multi protocol module and ELRS internally. I have too many frsky whoops, BNF planes and helis that I use with the tx16s and getting the Mk2 wouldn’t be an advantage until I have the capability to do both 5in1/ELRS with edgetx.

    I have been extremely happy with my TX16S I bought shortly after its release as part of a black friday sale and purchased some of the aftermarket face plates and leather pads the 2 things, beside their good rep they had, that drew me to it was the 4in1 module and they made all the upgrade parts available separately... I have recommended this radio to this that have the budget. I'm not entirely sold on ELRS and it still have some other receivers and a diverse fleet. I was glad I did not have to replace all of my receivers and if I choose to change protocols moving forward I can. This is a radio that was designed to grow with you and for you to personalize to fit your needs and personality.

    I'm excited - seeing how you can get the 4-in-1 separate as a replacement part, an internal ELRS module drop-in is very likely. In fact, I had emailed RM months ago when they released the Zorro if it would be possible to take the internal module out of that and transplant it into a TX16S - they replied that it wasn't something they officially supported but noted that there was interest. They're aware that people want this, it wouldn't make sense to not provide it!

    Got both the normal TX16S max and the MCK edition. The metal faceplate is really nice for people with hot hands, will keep you cool for a while. Besides that, the radio is noticeably heavier and EXTREMELY reflective, can blind people with rainbows. I disagree with Bardwell's comment about the edge of metal faceplate being annoying since it didn't bother nor affect me at all. The colour scheme you get is by chance as no two will have the same pattern. However there a two primary colour schemes you can get which will either be dominantly pink or dominantly blue. I got lucky and got a really nice blue pattern with a little bit of pink closer to the top which was what I was after.

In what I have seen recommended around the community is to get a good quality RC transmitter, use that in a sim and then get something like an emax tinyhawk to progress up to. If you purchase the ELRS version which for quads I build in the future is going to work great for, but what would my option be for a starter quad? I'm sure this is a relatively simple answer but I appreciate anyone looking at this. Thank you!

    Hi Josh , thanks for your lesson and I really learned something today. I already bought the Max II version with Ag01 gimbals ( that still in preorder today) but I selected the 4in 1 module cause I’m switching from my old X10s and I got my all my rx’s frsky protocol. I wanted to try building my own ELRS module to see how it will work, but my question is, why Radiomaster doesn’t selling the spare internal module with ELRS as they doing with the 4in1 internal module ? They also raised the 4in1 external module to 60/70 $ so isn’t cheap to me to buy it on second time…. I’m sure they are playing with prices as Frsky did on past, and I hope this will be not again a matter to move people to something that is commercial rather than more efficient as radio link as happened with Frsky . We will see

    Goddamnit, just finally got a basic TX16s (with open TX) less than a month ago after literally years of being on the fence...

    Would be cool made a external antenna port for internal module like on the Frsky x20s to run a stronger gain antenna also wish crossfire worked on the x20s . I feel x20s have slight edge over ag01 with their capability to change the axis of each gimbal a few degrees either way for those who say are use to giving yaw left or right during full throttle movements u can change the axis to take away the accidental yaw during full throttle blips. Time to do 160mph under gas station canopy passes now .

    Dont know if someone has mentioned this already but I would prefer if that JB version has a screw on antenna, that way I could change it out for the Moxon antenna's that might work a bit better? Is there a difference in range and penetration with the Moxon vs dipole?

    Well, if they ship with EdgeTX as default I guess I can install it as well on my Max mk1.

    Great video about all the new stuff. A $550 Radiomaster tho... that's more than a X20S and with the base model and the Jumper T18 V2 more than $300 cheaper... yeah... no. My Max was expensive enough on sale with the FlySky PL18 gimbals. PL18 gimbals are better than the AG01s btw and with Edge 2.6 onwards they are auto detected so they are a 100% direct drop in. Hawk RC sells the adapters for $33 and either the black or the red adjustable PL18 gimbals for $130 so price is the same. Get the PL18s.

    Hi Joshua, regards the tx16s max I'm curious about what you said about not liking metal fascia as it gets too hot and has sharp edges, I think I would agree and if I get one I wouldn't want metal either. Looking at the MK2 max versions they seem to be carbon fibre effect so are they metal or plastic? If plastic I think I will go ahead and get one. Thanks for the great reviews 👍👍

    what (if any) mk2 parts can be used to upgrade older tx16s?
    can we swap to the new mk2 6pos buttons for blue LEDs? or upgrade to the better POTs & Sliders?
    can i put the guts of a mk1 into the mk2 shell?

    It is great that Radiomaster is releasing all kinds of improve versions of tge TX16S but if I was Radiomaster, I would put a bit more effort in making sure their radios are not in backorder status all over the place!! What good is to announce new and improved versions of the TX16S if no one can get them!! Mine it’s been on backorder with GetFPV since the end of Feb.

    this is great if only we can get a TX20s max with both 4 in 1 and elrs. might not be to useful with a drone but a fix wing RC and some high end heli maybe. If they make that they will really start competing in the RC world. Specifically spektrum and futaba

    I just got this radio July 2022, but it did not come with the additional voice packs. You'll need to get these separately.

    Hey @Joshua Bardwell i probably missunderstand something, but i m willing to go buy the tx16s JB edition with built-in Express LRS cause i like the look and want to go for ELRS, but i was wondering if buying a normal version with a Ranger 2.4Hz ELRS module, was different, is there any difference on (for example) ranges between the built-in and the module, or does they work the same. I don't ahve all that much knowledge, and coucln't find the information! Ty for your help!!

    I bought your radio but am having problem finding the model wizard. I held the bottom scroll but never did come up. If I can get pass this I think I can learn what I need for the planned, usage I have for the radio. One other question will the Express ELRS work with ELRS. I thank that’s what’s in my Mobula7 Drone.
    I may ask in RC Groups if there are any members in the Austin area.
    By the way this is a very will made radio

    There is still a cheaper alternative to radiomaster which is the Eachine TX16S with adjustable gimbals, would have been worth a mention Joshua ?

    @Joshua Bardwell An upgraded version with AG01 (ELRS) at 320$ would have been so cool :D

  • @thibaultberard8093
    @thibaultberard8093 Před 2 lety

    We've got a math problem :)
    When you switch to AG01 : price up for 130$ more... but the real math must be : 130 -58 (price of the 2 bases guimbals) =72$.
    I mean : they REPLACE the guimbals , They do not send you the basics guimbla + the AG01.
    (by the way JB mention a 160$ upgrade but AG01 only cost 130 bucks) ...so in my opinion pyro drone do not make a discount, but apply the REAL price !
    Very great review for the rest, thks !
