That’s awesome. You should submit it to LEGO ideas
You should read the actual fine-print they have on the LEGO Ideas website... Nico probably wants to keep ownership of his creations, not donate it to TLG.
@Oscar Vandenbogaert no he put it in the bit at the bottom (subtitles?) . Suprising how it runs that well without modifications
Yrs he should

This contraption is the pure mean of lego engineering !!😂🙋
This Lego non-dead spot system is brilliant! LPE engines with modified pieces were already very impressive but this set is simply amazing by its ability to create a perfectly smooth engine out of regular bricks... Speechless
Many thank you, you completely understand the challenge on this type of engine :)
I want..need this to be a buyable set!

i love how you make LPEs without modified parts. This really allows alot of people to build them. good job

I am glad that you have noticed !
Franchement j'ai pas de mot à dire face à cette ingénierie ! Bravo !
Very Nice Model, Nice to see another LPE from you 👍

That's good lesson about pneumatic for advanced builders
That valve switching mechanism is genius!!!!
Great engineering, great construction, great explanation: awesome video!
Wow! This is incredible! You have amazing skill to be able to come up with something like this! Keep up the good work!
Thank you !
that centrifugal device is called the governor. thats what regulates steam flow to the turbine or in this case engine. if the speed drops so does the governor which then opens the valve letting more steam through, if too much steam is let in the governor automatically regulates it. it's also completely mechanical and doesn't need any electricity to run.
It is not a proper governor as it doesn't control the airflow but rather a display one. As explained in the article, it is not possible to make it run as a governor due to the lack of torque of the engine to run a massive governor to pinch the hose, It was the initial plan but after testing many thing, it is simply not possible to do without more torque and metal parts for weight.
While technically not a steam engine. This compressed air engine is a very cool model
It really sounds like a steam engine! Choo choo!
Next an air powered combustion engine and then building a working car around that? Amazing job!
I do not think it is possible to make a real combustion engine, but I have already made some pneumatic vehicle, you can check on my channel :)
I have made a 1 cylinder vacuum engine. The closest you can get to a combustion engine.
The music is unique.... round & round the mind long after finished playing.
Cool! The linkage you use for the pneumatic switch looks awesome!
thank, it is inspired by valve gear on real locomotive.
This is great! I love it, although, the centrifugal device seems a bit wobbly
Yes it is due the construction, which is not easy to brace correctly.
One improvement that could be made is that speed indicator. Add functionality. one more valve inline with the main air turned on and off with the speed indicator. You'll have a speed limit and ultimately a hit and miss lego engine that will automatically use air only when needed.
Hello, indeed but as explained in the article, it is not possible due to the lack of torque of the engine to run a massive governor to pinch the hose, It was the initial plan but after testing many thing, it is simply not possible to do without more torque and metal parts for weight.
Far better model than the many lego themselves put out!
Insanely jealous of your talent!
Thank you :)
Nice 4 point leaver controll. I made a steam machine way back, but just used a rod to smash the selector over. It was sub optimal... but did work
THIS NEEDS TO BE A LEGO SET
It is not buy now you can buy it ! Please check the description :)
Just building the 42082 D model, this will be my next purchase for sure!
Thanks for building the D model ! Did you know there is also a E model ? -> czcams.com/video/QUk7Gxf-BVI/video.html
Amazing!!! Much smoother than most pneumatic engines.
Thank ! The flywheel help a lot.
perfect sive for technic minifigures
I feel like you could put a lego compressor on the back of it, and have a completely self sufficient LEGO engine, besides the motors for the compressor of course.
It most likely wouldn’t have enough power to move itself provided it had wheels, but it would be neat nonetheless.
Yes it is possible, but this is a little non sense to do it. If I use an electrical motor, I can power the wheel direclty. The steam machine is originally powered by steam (from coal burning), and therefore transform the heat energy in mechanical energy. If you have electrical energy, you do not need a steam transformer to have mechanical power, just an electrical motor.
Beautiful
Needs to be a kit - would definitely buy.
Now it is ! Please check the description :)
@@Nico71Fr my Wife is going to be so annoyed with you....
How have I managed not to see this
This my friend is awesome
Technicaly you could make the govenor work using the hose pinch method by having the govenor pinch a hose as it flys out slowing the engine down and as it slows down the air opens up speedit up
Hello, indeed but as explained in the article, it is not possible due to the lack of torque of the engine to run a massive governor to pinch the hose, It was the initial plan but after testing many thing, it is simply not possible to do without more torque and metal parts for weight.
I love locomotive valve gears!
Beautiful Machine
I'm actually planning to buy one!
Thanks in advance so !
Fabulous model, love the sound it makes
Very nice! There has not been enough steam engines built with LEGO. Now go power a GBC with it :)
Thanks ! Just a question : you are "the"Tom Atkinson from the world record GBC ? (I have seen a hour wideo on beyond the brick)
Yes I am THE Tom Atkinson :) CZcams famous and all. Thanks to Beyond the Brick.
@@smokey2daddy Great to know you !
Lego should make low pressure pneumatic cylinders as well as valves that don't require that much force to move or ones for Higher capacities. I think i will try to make some custom lego cylinders myself, but making a valve is so damn hard...
You can check the lego pneumatic engine based on depression using hoover.
@@Nico71Fr took me a while to understand that comment 😉 i once made a vacuum engine too, but i ment cylinders and valves that don't consist of lego bricks, because they aren't airtight enough. What i like would be a double acting cylinder with a large bore and a short stroke. Anyway, i don't want to further annoy you with my wishes😉 good luck and have fun with your further projects and builds!
@@m8die319 I understand, no problem, thank you :)
That is so great.. so smooth

very cool
Nice stuff
You should make a Lego steam train in a similar fashion to this! BTW Great Vid!
Great job, but the spedometer needs a little work... it works but it could be smoother. Overall, great job!
Yes indeed ! As it is based on inertia, the LEGO elements lack some. Ideally I would work better if it has more inertia, less play, more travel, like the one I have done some year ago (you an search centrifugal tachometer on my channel), but here it was just a small build added to the machine because I was limited by the scale.
@@Nico71Fr Yeah, I have made a console for a pnumatic engine, ir has an air gauge (self built) and a spedometer, to track the engine. Im not a lego youtuber and I build everything mainly from the TECHNIC pnumatic tow-truck set... and with the valves that come in the set do not seem to work with the engine... do you have any ideas?
Can you give me the set number in ordre I check the valves.
Amazing
Hey its very good
this should get a official lego technic set, or Creator
instead hand pump can i use steam instead? trying to make steam engine for school project
I don't think so, as it will be too hot for the plastic, affecting the internal seal. I think also the pressure will be too important, especially if you want to use effective and satured steam. You can try, but at your own risk !
This is such a great video, so clean wow
super design, super boulot Nico71 !
Merci à toi :)
Can someone explain how this is different from the mechanism in the hot bulb pneumatic tractor? Just wondering. :)
It is different by three points : there is no adjustable timing point (this is fixed), there is a more complex timing linkage (to compensate the fact it is not adjustable, and there are two engine instead of one.
Nice work
Great work!
Your work is very cool 😎
Thanks !
I bought the instructions and ordered myself some parts, and I'm going to try to add a compressor system to the engine to let it produce air for itself.
Thank you !
Need to get some more air and see what rpms you can push out of it
This is not the idea here, the engine run in the same scaled speed as regular steam machine.

@@maxdavies9958 yes thank you
We use Steam tractors or called steam engines theyre huge and heavy
Very well done, love it!
Nice
if it runs at a fixed rate, you could use it like a clock!
Love the rpm meter!
Thanks !
👍 Beautiful job!
That speed indicator!! Fantastic!
nice
imagine you could add a little mechanic of electricity and charging your phone there that w9uld be unlimited power but its kinda weak if u ask me but i think it would be still be able to do something right?
It would be not unlimited power as I need to pump with my hand to generate air to generate motion, to generate electricity. I would better to generate directly electricity with my hand, with a motor or dynamo for instance. Efficiency can not be more than 1, always energy loss, so no unlimited power, thermodynamic rule.
I love it ! Great job man !
Does it create real energy
Where do you heat the water to get the steam? Do you just collect steam and put it into a container?
It is a reproduction of a steam machine it do not work with steam but with compressed air.
@@Nico71Fr okay
that centrifugal device is called a governor
Bonne continuation!
Pure genius engineering ❤️
Great resemblance to the classic steam machines.
Very good work. Congratulations.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks jose !
*James Watt wants to know your location*
Absolutely awesome cool.
Wonder if theres an easy way to do lego Walschaerts valve gear
I think it is possible mechanically but if it has to work with lego pneumatic engine, the play in lego and adjustment could be a problem.
What’s with the spinning fan thing?
Hello, I bought this set too long ago and noticed it did not come with the pump as am I building it. How can I pump air into the machine without the shown pump built?
Hello, you can use any air source with 2 bars minimum and constant flow. For instance bike pump, automotive compressor or Lego pump that you can buy on bricklink. You can connect the air source to the main inlet with a ballon needle.
Very cool Machine. The black flywheel looks really good. The shool I used to go to has a live size one of these in a Glass Building in front of the school
What programm do you use for your instructions?
It would be a nice kinetic scultpure in deed. I use ldcad for the CAD modeling and Lpub3D for the instructions, the both are based on the ldraw part library.
Awesome build and nice video. Unfortunately I always have to dislike when I see such a "like share subscribe bell" message :€)
Thanks and sorry for that, Considering 90% of my audience is not subscribed, it can make a huge difference if people who like my content subscribe.
Genius
Thanks !
I got a question: How does it keep momentum? Is the wheel really that heavy? I made a 2 cylinder (48mm) once and it couldn't even rotate 180 degrees!
A inertia mecanism is essential for me to pass the hard point of the switch. You do not need if you modified your switch, here there is big radius and 5:1 rotation multiplier wich help to have big inertia.
awesome. thats all i can say
Strange idea. But what if you made a real steam engine but the moving parts are mainly in Technic?
you should try to use this in aa working lego train
Is it powerful?
I have not measured but with standard pressure of 2-3 bars, with the stroke of the cylinder and the radius of the crankshaft, it can gives 1 to 3W I think. More if the cylinders and switches are modified and more pressure, which is not the case in the video.
This is amazing
excellent - how long does it run on a tank full of air?
I think some revolution, less than a minute it is sure !
