Lyrics:
Saint Anger 'round my neck
Saint Anger 'round my neck
He never gets respect
Saint Anger 'round my neck
(You flush it out, you flush it out) Saint Anger 'round my neck
(You flush it out, you flush it out) He never gets respect
(You flush it out, you flush it out) Saint Anger 'round my neck
(You flush it out, you flush it out) He never gets respect
Fuck it all and no regrets, I hit the lights on these dark sets
I need a voice to let myself, to let myself go free
Fuck it all and fucking no regrets, I hit the lights on these dark sets
Medallion noose, I hang myself, Saint Anger 'round my neck
I feel my world shake like an earthquake
Hard to see clear, is it me, is it fear?
I'm madly in anger with you
I'm madly in anger with you
Saint Anger 'round my neck
I'm madly in anger with you
I'm madly in anger with you
I'm madly in anger with you
I'm madly in anger with you
And I want my anger to be healthy
And I want my anger just for me
And I need my anger not to control
And I want my anger to be me
And I need to set my anger free
And I need to set my anger free
Set it free!
Fuck it all and no regrets, I hit the lights on these dark sets
I need a voice to let myself, to let myself go free
Fuck it all and fucking no regrets, I hit the lights on these dark sets

Imagine being locked up in prison for years without any real form of entertainment and Metallica comes and plays St. Anger
I know, the prisoners have suffered enough then this happens!
@ridian what exactly is bad about this song? I have genuinely no idea what people are talking about in the negative comments. This song is nowhere as good as master of puppets or the unforgiven 1&2, but it’s still great?
EDIT: yeah live versions without that terrible snare are 100 times better :D
@@Bavarian_Lifting most probably because of the snare drum. Also they hated the way James and Lars treated Newsted. Moreover they can't accept the fact that Rob replaced Newsted.

Hey, I know St Anger as an album gets mercilessly ripped to pieces but this song still stands up. 2003 was a strange time, and Metallica were just trying to fit in, while at the same time trying not to fall apart. I loved this song when it came out, still do, and it felt good to have something new from Metallica, even if it wasn't the best they can do.
Yes- 2003 was a strange time.
Lars' mom never allowed him to bang on her pots and pans when he was a kid. This album is his revenge.

The album that saved my life after my mum died between 13 - 15 years ago when I was listening to it every damn day. I didn't feel like be alive anymore. The music on this album represents all raw feeling and emotions. Lots of people don't simply understand what what this album brings to the surface. I'm not talking about the taste. They have a long and varied career. Imo the period between 1991 and 2003 --Black Album, Load/Reload, S&M, and St. Anger was their creative zenith. So much variety yet soul and innovation behind everything they do. Still the case with the more recent albums, but they've since fallen into a bit of a familiar rhythm.
