GUAN Chenchen delivered as the final competitor of the women's artistic gymnastics competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games to win balance beam gold. She finished ahead of teammate TANG Xijing, while 2016 Olympic all-around champion Simone Biles matched her bronze medal from Rio 2016.

oh this isnt her best. she was nervous af here. in an interview she said that her score here wont even qualify for beam finals in chinese nationals. she can pull a 7.0 dv.
Although her qualification performance was a lot better and less wobbly, she still delivered a great routine here. Deserved gold medal! Please upload Tang Xijing's silver beam routine as well. That one is my personal favorite

How adorable of her not even realizing she just won Gold! Love her teammate cheering her on and also love love Jeff, Cecile, Suni, and Simone very excitedly cheering for her too while she was on beam! It’s really heartwarming to watch all the gymnasts were cheering for each other at this Olympics.
I really love Suni genuinely cheering and being encouraging throughout the routine. On every risky skill here, Suni would look so concerned and then clap when Chenchen stayed on. This routine being hit kept Suni from being a medalist but she was legitimately happy. She was content with her medals and was completely fine with others placing over her here
@@colesmith7509 This moment really made me love Suni so much. She was exhausted and knew she hadn't done her best. The fact that she would medal if this routine fell apart didn't stop her from being fully invested in cheering for her competitor (whom I believe she'd described as her favorite gymnast in an interview).
Wonderful sportsmanship in Tokyo 2020! We can see Suni and Simone cheering her on and being happy after her routine. What a well-deserved win, congratulations! And kudos also to the lovely commentators.

I'm so happy she won. The individual finals this year were so wholesome and warm, it felt like all the girls were cheering and happy for each other.
As someone who has followed Gymnastics so closely since the 80s the one thing that’s gotten better about the sport is the camaraderie. In the 80s/90s the gymnasts didn’t know each other except reputation and name, sometimes not even that, but social media has changed all that. All the gymnasts follow each other on Twitter, Instagram etc so they become friends and supporters even outside the arena… so they’re closer when they do come to the meet.

Chinese are among the finest beam workers, I’m so happy for her 🥰. The kindness and sportsmanship portrayed in this final is all we didn’t see in the rhythmic gymnastics all around, Dina Averina can learn from all the girls here.
It feels great to see other gymnasts applauding her great skills in the background (suni Lee, Tang xijjng), excellence should always be appreciated be it your opponent or your fellow countrymen.

Unfortunately, the Chinese did not perform upto their expectation this year, probably due to extreme pressure. You could see the guilt and disappointment on their faces. However, Guan did a spectacular job on the beam. Congratulations.
The Chinese team scored very low on the floor event, in the team final, because they didn't show it, was it because of mistakes or lack of difficulties?

Chinese female Gymnasts are truly the queens of the balance beam.
But they really didn't perform to their level this year. They were definitely capable of a Bronze in the team event, but just made several mistakes in the team finals.
This is probably because of injuries and nerves. only 2 of the 4 team gymnasts have had large tournament experience.
The lack of difficulties in the routine also prevented them to challenge the US and Russian team.
What I did see is the emergence and confidence of Tang Xijing. Hope to see her in Paris for 2024 Olympics leading the Chinese team to a medal, and hopefully pick up an individual AA medal as well.
Tang Xijing already 'emerged' two years before, won personal all round gold, gold on beam.
With the mistakes the US team made in team finals, the Chinese were capable of placing second had all of them hit. They lost most of it on vault and bars, their floor wasn’t competitive enough either. I was most surprised by Lu Yufei’s floor score, 7.966 in execution seemed quite low to me, she stuck most of her landings and her chest wasn’t that low
@@mht4908 I agree that LYF floor score was low, but the judges probably deducted heavily for her 10 second pauses before each tumble pass lol
Tang Xijing is just more consistent on competition day. Watched a doc on this Chinese squad, one of the coaches calling her « not the most talented » compared to OYS, but we know who always underperforms

That was probably the best and most complicated beam routine I've ever seen. I don't know how they don't miss that skinny little beam and crack their heads open. Amazing!

I was anxious to see her since China's nationals. I love her routine especially at 1:10, combo I've never seen in competition. All the competitors seemed to be more wobbly due to not having time to practice on the equipment before event finals.

I simply can't belive both India and China have 1.4 billion people and China absolutely dominates the Olympics meanwhile India is nowhere to be seen! Such a contrast!
various factors.
1) India is ranked 94th worst out of 107 countries on the Global Hunger Index, a large portion of Indian children are malnourished. This affects the overall fitness of the country.
2) India has a very poorly funded sports system, their citizens are generally too poor to pursue professional sports on their own and the government doesn't fund them.
Some indians will tell you that "they don't care about the Olympics", this is a lie, they absolutely care, videos of the ONLY gold medal won by India this time were flooded with proud Indians congratulating the athlete.

They were definitely capable of a Bronze in the team event, but just made several mistakes in the team finals.
This is probably because of injuries and nerves. only 2 of the 4 team gymnasts have had large tournament experience.
Do you think the female Chinese team lacks the difficulties of the US and Russian teams?
@@obsidianstatue yes 100% i feel as if only two gymnasts from Chinese team have great amount of difficulty on UB and Beam and the whole teams struggles on vault and floor. Whereas usa and Russia have all very difficulty routines for the AA they don’t just rely on two members to try and stick a routine. However, next worlds and olympics it will be interesting how USA and China go because
1. simone is probably retiring so USA don’t have someone to rely on hence this displayed thru them getting 2nd in TF
2. Chinese struggling to push through routines and sticking movements. They look just fragile they need more strength.
Overall the next few years the evolution of gymnastics is going to change immensely and i wonder who the next GOAT WILL BE
@@alannahcoleman6149 Chinese female gymnasts are slender in comparison, but the Russians aren't that much bulkier. It's very interesting to see American Gymnasts' more solid build and how they perform because of it.
I'm by no means a gymnastic expert, but in the floor routine does the choreography have much affect on the scoring? Because the Chinese floor routine scores were all pretty low, they didn't show them on camera, so not sure if it were major mistakes.
On Chinese social media, the fans were very angry at the team coaches, most claim the training weren't done properly and caused injuries among the gymnasts.
With Liang Chow returning to the Chinese national team, it should have a more positive effect.
Although I'm skeptical about Chinese gymnasts being trained to be more towards the US body type, is the trade off between dexterity and strength, leaning that much towards a more solid lower body?

Quem poderia tirar a medalha dela seria a Ou Yushan, porém a Ou Yushan não conseguiu nem se classificar pra final. Uma pena, pq seria uma bela disputa.
