Stocking Tilapia for Pond Vegetation Control and Forage

- Every year we stock our small Texas pond with tilapia. These fish eat unwanted vegetation such as algae and they are good breeders so they spawn forage for other fish in the pond. Yearly stocking is necessary as the tilapia generally don't survive the winter. So, April or May are good months for enhancing their numbers. Please join us for our yearly farm chore.

I visit Overton’s monthly. The lady in your video is very nice and hard working. I didn’t know you could not eat those… I don’t have vegetation problems so no tilapia for me.
Fond memories of going to a tilapia pond fishing with my dad.
Good times. My dad and I fished trout streams together. Will always remember those days.
I used to pick baby tilapia and smallmouth bass out of the feeder goldfish tanks for the aquarium years ago...tilapia grow fast and are voracious
They are hungry little fish. Yes, they grow fast and frequently spawn.
Can you provide an update video for the pond and how many more tilapia repopulated
Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I should do a pond update now that winter has come and gone.
About how many acres is your pond
It is 0.5 acres. Pretty small.
Nobody should eat Tilapia.
Yes, don't eat these Mozambique tilapia. We just use them to make our pond healthier for the other fish.
