    The only problems I had with this laser was the wire management! Once I add the 1/4" Split Wire Loom Tubing to control them, this will be a perfect machine! The air assist was just as good as the Atzer AA. Click on Show More for links!

    I solved the problem with wire management by over tie wrapping (plastic tie wraps can squeeze the air hose) the Gantry cables and air hose and placing the machine close enough to the table's edge so that the Y cables droop down out of the way.
    I did have a problem with erratic engrave till I found the gantry belt left loose from the factory tightened it and now it works perfect.
    I got the two trees 500 X 500 Honey comb bed that was too large it was hit by the gantry used shims to raise the engraver to clear the bed.
    I did enjoy wealth of knowledge you gave, Thank you

    Half a year ago I upgraded from an A5 with the M50 laser to this one and I am realy very happy with it. I allready saved a lot of wood because of the limit switches. It is realy easy to continue cutting after you made a misstake and stopped the laser. Just zero the machine and it is spot on again after restarting. I use this laser untill max 60% because I had the impression that my M50 was loosing a lot of power because of allways running at 100%. In the past half year I did not mention any power loss on this laser. The cable management I resolved by attaching the cables to my enclosure and had no issue with it till now. Most of my work is 4mm oak, which I cut with 300 speed and 50% power in 1 pass.

    Another great review Rich! I agree that the air assist on this unit is one of the better ones I've had come with a laser. I really wish they used silicone wire on these machines. It would make cable management so much easier if those wires were a bit more flexible.

    I've watched 10 videos and yours is the best. The cable management critique is candid and helpful. I'm going to use your ground wire idea. Candid recommendation to not place the app device covering the vent. Smart. There is an add-on where you can place the cabling into a wheel-chain covering that I might consider buying. Can you demo a project where I want to create a plaque that has a piano shape cut-out. My wife is a piano teacher and she wants to build a custom plaque that has her name, student name, year of recital. It's going to stand up vertical by sitting in a groove cut on the base board. thank you ahead of time. Your sample cuts/engravings shows your expertise in the laser craft. I learned so much. I plan on combining my hobby with kumiko projects and laser engraving when I make my kumiko panels.

    I purchased an A20 from Amazon, in July, it is my first laser. I agree with everything you have presented. I also bought the extension bed from them directly which gives me an awesome 450mmX900mm work area. I know it took you 1/2 hr. to assemble. It took me 1 1/2 hrs. Documentation was extremely poor. The various youtube videos saved me. The cable with the extension bed was a nightmare so I purchased a drag chain for the y axis. Mine must be an older version with a weaker air pump, it is cylindrical rather than square. The head would not slide up and down easily and needed some filing to get rid of a couple of burrs. I had alot of difficulty with consistent cutting. If I was cutting several pieces in one run some of them would cut clean others would not. I went back and forth with factory support, very annoying since it take 24 hrs to get a reply. Finally they said I needed to return the head to the store, which I think is also in china. Then there was a one week Chinese holiday and finally they got around to agreeing to replace the head. The new head works great. The bottom line is it took 5-6 weeks to resolve the problem. The good sign is they seem to be a company willing to stand behind their product.
    If you need to elevate it to use a roller I had to shorten the lockdown screw for the head because periodically it would not home because the screw would hit the x axis rail. It has some serious power. I have had good luck cutting 3/4 inch thick pine. It will almost do it in one pass but catches fire. So finally I got smart and use 4-6 passes at 150/95. A few weeks later, amazon had the newer model with the larger air pump and the remote hand screen device that really is not needed. I use lightburn, the software, and the wifi app are worthless for any serious work. Where I live I have to have wifi for my phone to work. So if I was connected to the laser, my phone had to be disconnected. I have an air compressor in my shop with a regulator. I run the air line from the regulator to a gas regulator to easily control a slower air flow. It works great. Down side is the compressor noise.

  • @StumblingBumblingIdiot
    @StumblingBumblingIdiot Před rokem +1

    Another great video! That air assist really does seem nice and its only $100 at the big A right now cause they have a $30 coupon! I never thought about using that split wire loom tubing stuff to fix the cable problems. My Creality Falcon 10w has the same problem with that cable on the side dragging around and it will mess up the burn/cut if it gets against something. I was going to post about it in the forums but no I don't have to LOL

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, the wire loom is necessary on a lot of machines! I wish they would just use it at the factory! What could it cost in China to outfit one of these machines? Twenty cents?

    Great video, subscribed to your channel because of it! So I have a CNC machine that I added a 7w laser to (Sienci Brand). Right off the start it's not enough to do what I really want to do....CUT. Even with 3mm ply I'm having tremendous troubles cutting with it. Did a search and found your video on this Atomstack x20! My biggest question is that the air assist they have on their website is 15-30 L/min. Will that be enough to cut cleanly up to 1/4" ply in 1-2 passes? For the price listed on their website it seems like a great deal, in comparison to what I have now. Thank you for your help and again, great video.

    Machine zero and Saved positions: I have a 'laser start position' set at 0,67 corresponding with 0,0 on the scale. Machine zero position is 0 on the x but due to it smacks hard on the Y end stop it will fluctuate and get an Y zero-ish position. When you have the extension upgrade you can easily compensate the 67mm on the Y axis and bring the Y max to 917mm. Anyhow I keep it at 867mm because I precut wood panels to 410mm and 800mm. (For the Imperialists...get a life 😛)

Maybe I’m just lazy but I like quick setups for customers and screwing it down takes a bit.

    hello Rich, thankyou for the review. I own an x20pro. I found through testing and with the preview time that something was not quite right once you get above 6000 mm/min. I wrote atomstack about this as I noticed in the max speed settings that they are capped at 6000. they replied that the machine can go to 12000 but it is not recommended which seemed strange since they advertise it as capable of 12000mm/min. did you notice this or have to change the settings to get 12000?
    or do they consider it 6000 per axis which would be 12000 if x and y are moving simultaneously

      Yup, you don't have it focused properly or the lens is dirty. This laser blasts through 6mm wood at 360 mm/min.

    Rich, the scale on the left should be zero at the center of the gantry not the laser head. But it is still not close to being correct and you can move the zero switches, to adjust as needed anyway.

    Such a shame about the cable management on this, having said that it's not the only guilty diode laser in that respect. My old Ortur LM2 is a decent machine but has the same issue, I use an elastic "bungee" cord to suspend my x axis and air tube which works ok but the y axis often gets trapped when the machine is homing.

  • @rudycast81
    @rudycast81 Před rokem +2

    Just going to comment on your initial start of the review... Your observation of the markings on the x and y are incorrect... If you look under the left pulley between the 2 wheels, you will see there is a pointer indicating the measuring of where you're laser is in relation to the software 0,0 would be the bottom left, and that's where the laser sits when it hits the homing sensor. It is poorly visible but it is correct when homed to zero.
    Now if you're argument is that you're aligning the physical laser to the number zero then yes the markings AND the pointer should be moved to reflect this.

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  Před rokem

      The idea of the 0/0 position and the measurements on the rails (in my mind) is that it should mimic the software work grid. So if I send my laser to 0/0 and fire it, it should mark at 0/0 Rudy. I can't imagine what else you could use the measurements for.

    Good video, enjoyed watching. I just purchased the A20 Pro and from what I see I like it so far. Except, I am having problems with framing my projects. I had a Ortur 2 and used lightburn for my artwork. With this laser I don't see a fire button and or I'm not sure how to frame. I don't seem to understand how to read the laser thru the window on the laser. I like your video I used lightburn to test framing function. Would you please recommend a video that will help me with framing?🙄

    Warning, Have used this machine for 6 months and it is showing all the signs of being worthless. Air Assist broke and no longer puts out air even though it runs. Lens cover has burn marks on it and I can't get replacements for them because they are out of stock and have been told it will be months until I can get them. Now the laser will not even cut through 3mm Baltic Birch ply even at 100mm/m and 100%. Can't get any help from support even though it is well within the warranty period. Deal with this company at your own risk. They are without integrity. Had an Ortur before this and when I had issues, they were great about reaching out and helping me out. No such luck with this company. Really regret wasting my money on it.
