    Malak was Revans second in command, hes WAY more powerful than hes given credit for
    Edit: if Mace Windu had been around in the Old Republic era then the Sith would have had a real problem. I'm in the camp that Windu legitimately beat Palpatine and that it wasnt a trick

      I'm convinced that Malak was beating Master Kavar from KotOR 2 in a lightsaber duel when Admiral Karath called him about capturing Revan and Bastila. And that's why Canderous/Mandalore thought he was dead.

      In the ep3 novelization it states that Palpatine tossed the fight (specifically, he stopped using force lightning just as Mace couldn't hold on any longer). I would recommend you read it, it is a fantastic book.

      Mace only stood a chance in terms of lightsaber combat once he fully dived into Vapaad. In other words, the scenario we got.
      It's very clear that if that fight had been a legitimate 1v1, Mace would have been screwed. He needed time to adjust with Vapaad (something Palpatine's opening blitz wouldn't allow) and he never had a chance inna direct Force contest

    When I first read this title, thought it was a joke video. Turns out I was completely wrong.
    Really impressed with the degree of articulation and detail in less than 10 minutes.
    As for windu winning, yeah no question he wins. Vaapad is a pain for most darksiders to deal with (unless your an lawful evil sith like Vader or krayt). Though just like in yoda vs malak, this video makes it clear that malak is a beast in his own right.
    One small thing, malak is a confirmed user of sith sorcery and alchemy. Sorcery can be a very hax ability. But malak doesn’t appear to use it in combat to the level of exar Kun or omin, so I get why it wasn’t brought up.

      It's similar to comparing Malak's command skills to Revan's. Comparing any Sith sorcerer or alchemist to the all-time greats is like comparing Malak's tactical and strategic prowess to Revan's: It'll end up with Malak constantly shadowed by Revan. Malak is capable, in both the realms of esoteric Sith abilities and Military command, but he isn't a genius prodigy in either realm.

      2nd, I was under the assumption malak learned sith sorcery and alchemy to help his research of the star forge. Comparing malak to omin wasn’t a good comparison. But malak is like half warrior half scientist.

    While I agree with the final verdict, I think the biggest difference between Malak and Sidious as Windu's opponent is raw physical potential. Malak isn't going to get tired or be staggered by physical blows, and his armour and formidable physique will allow him to tank non-decisive blows. Nothing less than decapitation will end this fight, and while Vaapaad is spectacular, it is also a knife's edge. If Windu loses focus or slips up during this duel, he could very easily lose.

    I believe Evannova 95 stated in his Caedus vs Mace video that he divides the dark side users into two types, ones who use the “burning effect” eg palpatine who goes full maniac kill everyone with rage and the “chilled” users more like Dooku and Vader who are more cold and detached. Would you agree with Evan’s assessment and his statement that Vaapad wouldn’t be as effective against the more “chilled effect” users ie Dooku???

      I guess it'd still depend on what the user channels as they could be channeling power while not expressing it, a furnace or simmering pot akin to something more outwardly like a flamethrower/dragon. Dooku was chill, but you hypothetically counter Krayt's self-preservation that way, whether as a matter or leeching energy or even turning it into him like increasing the armor killing/degenerating him.

    I won’t expect a Post- mortem analysis since you have already nodded to Windu in comparisons as a Tier 2 fitness and Tier 1 martial artist + Force Wielder. I am curious about Darth Malak’s standings, though. Tier 2, or Tier 1.5-1 as a Force Wielder or Martial Artist?

    • @austinkersey2445
      @austinkersey2445 Před 2 lety +3

      I would personally say Malak is a Tier 1.5 overall. He has a Tier 2 physique due to his height and obvious musculature, as well as his penchant for being overbearing in a duel. He beat Kavar after all, who is one of the best swordsmen of the era, and a member of the Jedi Council. He is a Tier 1.5 Lightsaber duelist due to his skill and multiple disciplines, as well as how he intelligently blends Force abilities and lightsaber combat, and a highly refined military mind. He is a Tier 2 or 1.5 Force wielder due to the variety, his refinement of his abilities, and the intelligent use of them. He is definitely a great of his era, but not an all-time great like Tier 1s. To be fair, his master is also a Tier 1.5 but for different reasons. I would say he is lesser than some Tier 1.5s like Dooku or his master, Revan, I think Malak is in their ballpark. He is definitely too skilled to be in Tier 2 in my opinion. Plo Koon is great and all, and Obi-Wan is amazing as a duelist. But, I just think they wouldn't beat him. The main reason I would say that Malak is not Tier 1 is because he (similarly to Dooku) is not willing to relinquish himself to the Force or to absolutely dominate it like many Tier 1s.

    @justinwallace269 Před 3 lety +4

    Agreed, and I'll be looking forward your collab with Evan. Have you guys ever considered making in depth style vs style comparisons? I find the topic interesting considering that each style in the hands of a particular artist can become infinitely more viable. Take Niman for example: it's basically Shii Cho with downloads from 2,3,4, and 5, which makes it good for the academic who's content learning someone else's method as opposed to inventing - whereas Shii Cho might actually work better in the hands of improvisational thinkers like Qui-Gon Jinn or Kit Fisto because it's simpler and leaves more room for creativity. It also poses the question, how do classical styles measure up to Vapaad? Can Shii Cho's creativity match up to 7's ferocity? Can Soresu find 7's weakness in time? Can Djem So potentially overpower form 7? Can Makaashi survive against that kind of speed and power? Just examples, but I'm sure there are plenty more.

    Sedriss vs Xanatos vs Desaan (three Dark Jedi who went toe-to-toe with the best duelists of their respective eras
    Darth Plagueis vs Darth Maladi vs Darth Wyyrlok III (three Sith focused mainly on Force abilities and participated in one lightsaber duel against another Force adept)

    • @wristofkings
      @wristofkings Před 3 lety +1

      Desaan will come out on top. I'd substitute Asajj in over Xanatos, he is soundly outmatched in this fight. Ventress still won't win, but she will contend better with opponents on this level than Xanatos (who isn't much further above your average Jedi knight).
      Once again, Maladi is the outlier here. As soon as she's off the field Plagueis will likely overwhelm Wyyrlok as he is physically and martially superior by some distance and holds an edge in the Force as well, though not a commanding one.

    • @wristofkings

      1. I'd say Desann wins although it would be close. Not only does he have a physicality/species edge but as I recall he fared better against Luke Skywalker than Sedriss did (a more experienced Luke at that).
      2. Maladi IS good but I agree she's out of her league here. As to Plagueis vs. Wyyrlok III I'm leaning towards the Chagrian due to his skill with illusions/psychic attacks. Correct me if I'm wrong but I can't recall Plagueis displaying anything to indicate exceptional resistance to mental attack. Andeddu was an expert in illusions/psychic combat and he got washed by Wyyrlok III.

However, I also believe that except for their best fighters ( Draco, Krieg…. Two or three others) they generally cap out at tier 5. They all can contend with sith ( yes there are a lot of comparative weak sith in this era but a sith is still way too dangerous for tier 6 to survive.) I think that’s why that they are all capable combatants, but only a handful are truly council level warriors like Draco.( a personal favorite. I like his passion and multi layered personality. A strong sense of duty and loyalty but held back by his arrogance and desires. In a lot of ways he’s how I picture anakin should have been portrayed.)

While outside of his armor Krayt rivals Sith like Sidious and Vitiate and would best Vader with only minor difficulty, I think Krayt in his armor would be a good match up for Vader, as while he is slightly stronger than Vader at this point, its a small gap. Their physicality, tactics and developed skill are roughly equal, though Krayt obviously has more experience due to living over a century longer.

    9/10 Mace wins, the only way i see Malak winning is through a serious mistake on Mace’d part. Opening up with Ataru, Makashi, or Juyo/Vaapad would be a death sentence. As any initial attempt to bewilder Malak would be immediately cut short. Where Mace’s first attack would be parried and Mace would lose his hand or be stabbed through the heart. However the thought of Mace not opening a defensive posture is unlikely imo. Easily gauging Malak then implementing Vaapad for the win. Even if Mace goes purely defensive with Soresu, he will still come out on top.

  • @nooneyouknowof
    @nooneyouknowof Před 3 lety +1

    Mace has lost against darkside users before, and his Vapaad didn't help him win the fight in that situation.
    The performance he did against Palpatine was the best he's ever done against a darksider using Vapaad because of. 1) Palpatine being a literal Nexus of darkside energy to draw from, 2) Sidious needing Anakin on his side, and 3) Sidious choosing not to kill Mace first when he did the Sith stun roar.
    It takes Mace a little time to get into Vappad and start using it, so if Sidious killed him first instead of choosing to spare him after he already took out the other masters, then Mace would have never gotten a chance to get into Vapaad in the first place.
    It's hard to judge Malak's potential and fighting prowess just from the video game.
    Is Malak in the Revan novels?
    If you want to say that everything Malak does in the video game is canon for his character, then I remember him being able to force freeze you even as Revan, so I don't see why he couldn't do that to Mace and then cut him down.
    Revan has an incredible will, but Malak easily plows thru it in order to freeze him and his companions in place.

  • @JediLordNathan
    @JediLordNathan Před 3 lety

    I agree with the results, also another thing to note is that the Star Forge wouldn't even make a difference in the scenario for another reason apart from fueling Vaapad, that being it didn't provide an advantage over Revan who as far as the power level is concerned is on par with Windu: it really didn't provide a major advantage either because of Revan's tactical ability he was able to break the binds on the dead Jedi, Mace Windu would have been able to do the same thing with Shatterpoint.
    Now I have two more things one is a duel suggestion Revan at his best versus Palpatine, I'm off the opinion that Revan would win because of his tactical mindset, his advantage in physicality, his skills as a Lightsaber duelist, and his force abilities having counters for Palpatine's own powers.
    The other thing I'll note is that you're wrong in assuming the retcons began with TCW in 2008, Star Wars has been contradicting and retconning itself for years: with notable examples being Heir of the Empire saying that the reason for the Dagobah Cave being dark side corrupted was due to Yoda killing a Bpffashi Dark Jedi there, then saying that Yoda never visited Dagobah before his exile. Then you have Labyrinth of Evil contradicting the TWC 2003 with what exactly Anakin and Obi-Wan were doing before the start of Revenge of the Sith, I could go on but the fact is that Star Wars was contradicting and retconning itself before the Disney takeover and before TCW 2008, I personally think TWC 2008 fits in the timeline simply because the timeline itself is ALWAYS contradicting itself, and doing so on a frequent basis and was doing so even before Disney took over, I absolutely hated that retcon especially after what was given as a replacement three shit sequels, two movies that were actually decent and a fair few good cartoons and comics but little else and only two decent games in nearly ten years so yeah, there were however aspects of the EU I HATE like the Caedus arc and the Vong War which ruin Star Wars too mainly by killing off characters in stupid ways relying more on shock then on actually good story telling and don't tell me that the Vong War wasn't BS because it really screwed the setting over, the Caedus arc even more so and is most likely the reason for the Disney Retcon happening in the first place. Anyway, the best way to regard Star Wars is with personal Headcanon that's the way I regard it, you have your own I have mine, but for goodness sakes don't tell me that TCW was the reason for all the Retcons because Star Wars has been retconning itself for years.

    Darth Krayt( armored) vs Darth Maul: a mismatch to be sure, but I think it would be interesting. They have similar skill sets , yet their tactics and build are completely different. Krayt has Vader’s strength and durability with dooku’s stamina, while Maul is a lean, agile speed demon. Both have inhuman pain tolerance. I’d argue in combat Mail is a better tactican, but otherwise Krayt is more intelligent and has more to work with in powers and technique. Both are masters of niman, teras kasi and jar kai, but Krayt has more experience while maul is more unpredictable. Krayt prefers dual blades but excellently uses one , where Maul’s saberstaffkeeps him to certain angles. I’d argue Mail is superior in hand to hand combat, but really there’s only a handful of characters who truly are better than Maul unarmed. Krayt undeniably has greater force powers and more of them than Mail. These are two of my favorite sith and I actually think Maul would have done very well in the one Sith as while Maul was highly intelligent he wasn’t really able to function outside of sith parameters and had little personality beyond his desire to serve, as like you point out he was basically a cult follower programed to be a certain way and had difficulty acting outside his programming effectively . I think he would have had a position like Nihl or Talon.( maybe replace Stryfe as fist.) a more even match up would be Mail vs Stryfe or Nihl.( or even talon.) as aside from lighting they are on comparable levels of force power.( Maul would be the superior duelist to all three though.) Nihl or talon might be a better tactican ( barely ) but Maul’d definitely outsmart the dumb brute that is Stryfe. I’d like to see more legacy are characters in general, it’s one of my favorite eras and I’d love to hear your thoughts on : Wolf Sazen, Darth Azard, Antares Draco or Any of the others.

    Indeed, the story and gaming script requires Malak to ONLY use Force Drain on his Jedi captives and not the player when on the Star Forge. Yet in the Leviathan confrontation where there were no captive Jedi, Malak used Force Drain against me in my multiple playthroughs. I don't know if this is a fluke, or if the scripting is different enough, either way I think Malak does use drain on live Jedi since nearly every acolyte you face in game uses the power.

    I really need to ask something that has been clawing at my mind for awhile, that being: Who would win, Grand Admiral Thrawn, or Darth Revan? But here's a twist, instead of putting these two in a lightsaber/blaster duel (Which Revan would most certainly win, hands down), let's make the fight more like a fleet battle in space, something which Thrawn would have a MUCH better chance at defeating Revan in. In essence, I want to see who was a better space battle tactician! Let's make the scenario much like The Battle of Bilbringi (without Thrawn's Noghri bodyguard being there to assassinate him), mainly because that was the largest single battle in scale between Thrawn, and The New Republic during his campaign against The New Republic (and also the most climactic, imo). Malak will not be there to betray Revan like he actually did before KOTOR. I want to see a direct confrontation scenario between what are (in my opinion) two of the greatest tacticians in Star Wars EU history, with no sort of help/interference from those two problems that could arise in this very battle. Let's also have Revan leading a New Republic fleet (basically standing in for Admiral Ackbar during this battle), instead of an Old Republic-era fleet (Which is terribly outmatched technologically speaking), which would be slaughtered easily by Thrawn's more modern ships. Can this happen?

He could unleash big force waves pretty casually against droid armies, he smashed Sora Bulq with a force push and on Haruun Kal, argueably a darkside nexus, he could split his attention to levitate himself (and a man clinging to him) and stabilize a large sandcrawler, after having already triggered and guided a sort of avalanche.

    Darth Malgus vs Galen Marek: it sounds like a mismatch at first glance, but it’s more even than it looks. Malgus is physically stronger than Marek and might be slightly more durable but otherwise they are roughly on par in terms of agility speed and stamina , thanks to Marek have. Minor enhancements while Malgus has more substantial cybernetics I’d give Malgus a slight edge here but not by much. Marek endured the strength of Vader and I few Malgus as slightly below Vader in strength, the more worrisome part would be that strength matched with great speed and agility. In terms of raw developed skill with a blade they are roughly on par ( I concede Malgus has much more experience and may even have more developed skill, but their style and tactics are very similar in blade to blade combat) They utilize multiple styles to make them well rounded combatants and often face superior duelists( in terms of developed skill) on a regular basis. Both have skill in unarmed combat though except for Malgus strength they are roughly even unarmed ( grappling, kicks punches) combined with their Sabre skills. Malgus is undeniably more powerful in the force, but marek uses his abilities to equal effectiveness and Marek is strong enough that it won’t be a curve stomp. Marek has displayed tutaminus effective enough to deflect blaster bolts and briefly contend with Sidious lighting.( while Malgus is stronger than Galen, he’s no Sidious.) Marek uses his environment to great effect during all his fights, while Malgus relies solely on his own ability and fails to stop opponents from using the environment against him. Even if you view this as a forgone conclusion I think it’s good enough to deserve a short.( it’s at least as close as Malak vs Windu.) their undeniable similarities are worth exploring.

    Windu with the help of Vapaad and shatterpoint has an enormous advantage in lightsabers over pretty much any sith who cant keep a lid on and work a balanced game. The only persons who I can see do this to him is Dooku DoE Bane (maybe) and Darth Baras. Baras was so good at keeping a lid on that not even Satelle Shan could feel the dark side from him which would leave Vapaads edge somewhat dulled. Bara's feats are few but substantial being able the stonewall two great jedi masters and earlier Dart Angral plus keeping the army wreaking Empire's wrath on his backfeat with both blad and lightning.
    The only way I percieve for Windu to be beaten overwhelmingly by a sith is if that sith is skilled and efficient with combative sith sorcery since I ave have never seen a jedi in the clone wars era having the skills to counter it (pls let me now if you do have one I would love to read it). A death field or a sever force strike or something like the move Exak Kun used on Odan-Urr would be something that Windu has not been depicted neing able to endure.
    Sidequestion. Has it ever been established if passice force barriers have any impact on the sith sorcery spells?

      Vader also would a sith who could contend with windu, since he fights in a cold and detached manner
