I've stopped using vasoline which pongs a bit. If you can't find keg lube in a homebrew shop you can get food safe lubricant from Arco (safety equipment suppliers) for around £5.20 for a 500ml spray can, which will last absolutely ages. Spray it sparingly underneath the O-ring as well as on top and the 'overspray' will lube up the lid threads and make it easier to screw the lid on and get it back off .

Thanks Chris, apart from the bad gesticulation, monotone voice, poor camera work and less than interesting subject matter I should be good for an Oscar ;) cheers though. Just realised ur my neighbour! lols. I've got a new pale ale in the fermenter, let's compare our latest attempts in a few weeks! time.
Great help I'm thinking of buying this barrel 👍
I'm pleased it's been useful. Thanks for comment and good luck if you decide to purchase one.

Thanks for this tip, will see how easy the cap is to remove at the end. Sounds like a cheap and effective alternative to vasiline, cheers for posting.

People always say to lubricate the valve rubbers on the S30 valves. They seem very hard to remove, so do I just lubricate over them?
You should take up presenting professionally Rob! From the newbie brewer at 196!!
