- In India getting ready made succulent soil is very difficult. So, here I have an easy succlent potting mix recipe with sand, perlite, cocopeat and compost. It is not necessary that you have all these constituents, you can always tweak it according to your needs. Just remember that for a good succulent or cactus soil it is essential that it should be good in drainage.

Worth mentioning that Perlite is dangerous for our lungs. Best to wet it before using so small particles aren't breathed in. Enjoyed your presentation. Pleasant, informative, & straight to the point. I'll try this mix tomorrow.
Very imp informationđđ»
You can wear a medical mask too
Wet the perlite in bag before u add to the mix...no dust đ
Cocopeat should not be added in succulent potting mix madam as by d time it creates fungus & bacterial infections in d soil as it's an organic matter & over time break down resulting decrease in drainage of soil. Also it holds too much water for succulents which results root rott. Pls don't misguide to the people. It can be used for propagation purpose only. Instead anyone can use leaf compost, garden soil with neem khali or fungicide powder in PROPER RATIO.
Thanks for the info
Was so inspired by your video I stopped the video at 10:45 am and finished repotting and cleaning up both my balcony pots. I have an assortment of succulents, ornamentals and herbs for cooking. They were languishing for a year and today you inspired me to get working. Thank you.
Hi, thanks for video some queries on the below;
1. Being in India shld we not use garden soil at all in least qty.
2. Shld we press the soil like we do for other plants as I saw u just pouring & planting the succulents without giving any pressure.
3. Shld we water immediately after completing potting.
Lastly when to water next.
You can use soil just filtered the fine Dust otherwise overtime the soil will get compact we want the succulent soil to be lose porousâŠyou can add sand or perlite or pumice to further make the soil more porous
Hello it's a pleasure to watch your videos which are informative. U r charming too . God bless you.
I've never tried this mix before, I'll have to test it out here in Florida. Thank you so much for sharing!
I was wondering why nurseries add minute thermocole balls in seed sowing mixture. This is a mystery. You have given an excellent advice about not using thermocole and replacing it with perlite. Your communication skill is very good. If perlite is unavailable then possibly river sand can be used in it's place. --- Reggie Radcliff.
It's probably to give an illusion of perlite, as it looks similar and trick the buyer
I recently started watch ing ur videos.... It really has started inspiring me.... I never knew abcd of plsnts but nw m getting interest to plant trees.... Every time m free I open ur video s n sit
It's very interesting to see how people have different soil mix in different countries!
Thank you for sharing anyway! đđđđ
If you mean the coco peat moss. You're going to start seeing it more and more because we use so much more coconut in food now but we're also running out of sphagnum peat moss. We're ruining where it grows or did grow and became what it is. We have destroyed most of the environment that it came from so we're leaving the areas that it's left alone so that the world isn't completely scorched but we have tons and tons of this coconut fiber. And it actually works very well it's sold in the US 4 animal substrate and for gardening substrate. I think you're just in an isolated area right now so you'll start seeing it soon enough it was really expensive at the beginning here but it's getting a little bit better but then again Pete Moss is a fortune now also

Very true about thermocol!
Hi! Thank you for this video, you're very skilled for explaining things. You speak in a simple but precise and information-rich way that I really like.
Your videos are very intricate and detailed. Thanks for sharing. I just wonder, how many plants you have around your house ?every video of your it seems different plants.
Just was curious to know apart from gardening how difficult is it to grow organic food at homes? I will really appreciate a series of such videos.
You should add activated pumice stones instead of perlite for better long lasting result.(perlite breakdown faster with time)
Can I use construction sand for indoor plants
I"m not certain if pumice can be activated. You probably mean activated charcoal.
I found that fine sand holds water too long and saw a huge improvement when I started using quarter inch crushed granite... Give it a try... đ
Sorry to say rear i abuser mostly youngster are not showing intereste in gardening .god bless you. Keep it up.âââââ for u.

This is the best explained video I have found! Thank you for your knowledge.
Hi there, I usually buy standard potting mix in bulk from the local soil supplier however my it holds too much moisture which isn't good for my succulents. I was considering using pavers sand(quite coarse) which I can also get in bulk plus perlite plus the standard potting mix I already get at a 1:1:1 ratio. I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this please?
Thank you for inspiring me thru ur videos..
Wow very nice and very clear explanation, where other channels doesn't. Love a lot. Thank u. Keep on doing more videos
whenever you handle perlite it should be wet. The reason behing is that it is a glass like crystal that has been puffed like a popcorn and the dust in perlite contain the same sharp glass particle so it can damage ur lungs or eyes if it goes in. adding water before handdling it can fix that.
Little soil helps in increasing microbial activities....also helps nonavailabe nutrients to be available to succulents
Balu soil (desert sand ) +cocopeat + vermicompost
In ratio of 5:3:2
Also a good potting mix for succulent.
Wat about vermicompost n sand mixture???
bengia nanam If you skip cocopeat in this mixture ,it will not hold moisture for long time ...and you will have to water the succulent frequently ...
@@caramangoel oh..ok thanks
In the potting mix of this video....why we dont add any soil?
@@devansh4155 Most come from dry areas and desert, so sand, little cocopeat and organic compost is sufficient to grow them
The Perlite information is really very helpful. I didn't know about it. Thank you @jenny
Thank you soooo much...i have no idea about gardening... learning every step from your videos...thank you
If you can't get hold of course sand, you can replace it with flint poultry grit, that works just as well. :) Good video. Sub'd!
Coarse.
How often to add fertilizer (compost) in mix
Nd when to change the pot for size issue. Cz u grew in small pots.

Excellent mam,

Succulent doesn't need aeration
Where can I buy the sand from. Thanks in advance
Are earthworms in a succulent potting mix good for the plant? I found one in an empty pot, my jade died of over watering a couple of months back. I am wondering if I should I remove the earthworm and transfer it to another pot before planting another succulent in it? I basically just want to ensure that it doesn't eat up the roots or the stem of the plant. Also instead of old manure can sea weed fertilizer be added to the mixture? Does it do the same job?
Can we use BBQ charcoal for succulent plants and others plant pots?
Can u give me link of compost, in the description it opens up cocopeat and also link for sand and few good seculants, planning for tea cup seculants
Hi, the links are in the description. For sand, you will have to enquire with the local nursery.
can you do a video on lucky bamboo care and how to make it grow healthier
Sure, will do a video on that..

2:53 ended the video. Why people are so much in love with Cocopeat. Cocopeat is something that start decomposing after several weeks. It has high absorption capacity which leads to growth of bacteria in soil. Succulent needs dry and cold environment. While cocopeat will keep soil moist for long time. I am sure succulents will not survive more than 6 months in this potting mix. Instead use 80%cinder 10% leaf mould 10%neem cake and fungicide
Tai I planted by succulent only in cocopeat and vermicompost mix. Chalel ka? Change karu?
I won't work u should use coal cinder for the best resultsđ”

Hii.. thank you soo much for your love đđđ
Can we use brick pieces instead of perlite
That is very interesting idea. but scientifically speaking brick pieces is also ultimately soil although baked soil, i am not sure if it can aid in maintaining air pockets in potting mix. If you don't have perlite available you can just skip it as well..
Soil is good, it has cooling value, nd self nutrient values. I had exprience it
so inspiring and detailed... i ordered peace lily from ugaoo ,received a small but healthy plant and gona try dhaniya methi n tomato as decribed in ur beginners series... thanks...u have mastered ur work... flawless explanation... way to go girlđ

You are superb in explaining.... Very nice... đ
The information was very useful for me, thank you so much
Very interesting for a beginner like me. Fantastic & thank you
I am totally with you regarding the polystyrene balls in soil. Those are a major irritation to the avid gardener. I'd just like to add that actually it is very easy to separate the balls from the soil, unless they have been in it for too long. If you have a plant you purchased from the nursery that has these in its soil, all you have to do is separate the plant and its roots from the soil to the best possible extent. Now dip and gently shake the roots in a bucket of water. Once that is done, you should put all of the soil into a bucket of water. The balls will float on the surface and can be removed easily.
Nursery guys, please don't put plastic into the soil.
Very nice and easy tutorial. Thank you.
Thank you for this valuable information

Your videos are so helpful. Just wanted to ask- whether it is okay to use normal soil without any compost, Coco peat, perlite for echeveria? Because I have placed my echeveria in a bigger pot filled with normal soil (it's kind of dark soil/black soil which i got in near by place) so is that okay or not? I don't want my succulent to die. Hope you will reply. đ
No cocopeatâŠuse granular sand and perlite with regular soil which is not too organic
Amount of water and how many times in a week should be poured for propogation of succulents.
Even a very little quantity of water spoils the leaves or, the stems which plugged/ cut for propogation.
This is very important question.
Please reply ..
