- J.NONE's time with VoicePlay has been incredible and it has now come to a happy end. We'll miss him more than we can say and wish him the very best on his new path. Please read below for more.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Well, we certainly wish we had happier news for you today, but life is full of unexpected twists and that's what makes it such an adventure. That being said, it is not without quite a bit of heartache that we have to deliver the news that J has made the difficult decision to retire from his position in VoicePlay. And as life is unpredictable, J (in classic J fashion) will be taking his smooth vocals and infectious charisma to the ranks of the United States Naval Fleet Band where he will be singing his face off around the country and the larger world. Surely, you're asking yourself if you just read that correctly, and allow us to assure you that you did and we couldn't be more proud of him for making a change that broadens his horizons and opportunities in the most literal sense.
It's not quite "goodbye" yet, though. We've JUST finished shooting two more videos with J which we'll be releasing to the public on May 14th and May 28th. Working with J for the past 5 years has been more of a privilege and delight than we can ever explain and we'll continue to hold him in the very highest esteem for as long as we're breathing breath. He truly is like none other.
Please help us wish him well as he continues on his journey and do your very best to support him when he inevitably invades a small country with his overpowering laugh, ridiculous wit, and dazzling dance moves. His time with VoicePlay will always be a highpoint for us and as we wish J farewell, just remember, endings are like beginnings, and there is much more to come from both J and from VoicePlay.

I wonder if it means he'll be coming back to VoicePlay after he's finished with his service, or if he'll just start appearing in videos again (not as a main member).

Absolutely gutted to hear that J is leaving. Gonna miss the riffs and runs, the smoooooth vocals, the amazing leads as well as the personality he brings to the group. Some big shoes to fill for the next 2 members of the group but I’m looking forward to seeing what they bring 😁

Truth. There's an old short story in which someone compared people of each branch to specific dog breeds. Navy was likened to golden retrievers: love the water, love kids, high energy, friendly... yeah, J.None is a good fit.
Still not over it, but... I am happy for him and he's not like "gone", we will still have him ❤️ just somewhere else
Bittersweet indeed. J deserves his shot in the Navy for sure. I am an Air Force veteran and I have several family member in the Army and Navy. Serving your country is a calling that very, very, very few people hear and even less are able to meet the challenge that comes with it. But the rewards are immense as the responsibilities are equal in measure. J is about to make a huge step from national treasure to national hero. I truly wish you the best on your new adventure, J. You will be missed very much, but you will also be in good company moving forward. Welcome to the ranks of those who serve this amazing country of ours, brother!

I now know I was within "Hey, how are you" distance of J None on the day you filmed this, as he was walking out into the parking lot (I presume after you were finished for the day). I even recognized him! I did. But I didn't want to be that intrusive fan who just thrusts himself on someone, so I didn't stop, didn't say hello. If I'd known he was taking a leave of absence I would have stopped and fanboyed a "God, I love your work, I appreciate you so much. Thanks for making my life better" moment to let him know I love him and his (and all of the rest of your) music.

I wish J. None all the best! He will be missed for sure. But, I'm not worried about Voiceplay at all. They're all incredibly talented! In my humble opinion, they've consistently gotten better and better even with the occasional member change. Layne is the absolute best beatboxer there is, with a beautiful voice too. I swear he's a one man sound machine! Eli has such a strong, versatile, voice. He can't be beaten when it comes to runs! Geoff is unmatched when it comes to basses. I think he's the best bass in the business. With 3 incredible talents like those, at the core of Voiceplay, they will be fine. I can't wait to see what the future holds for all of them!

I just discovered VoicePlay last year and I fell in love with the group and their amazing sound!! And was sad when I found out Earl had left earlier in 2020. And now that I'm an avid fan, I'm even more sad that we're losing another super talented person but happy for J. None to continue his journey!!
