Such a relief to see Watson's character portrayed as (I believe) Sir Arthur intended, not the fumbling, bumbling fool that some alleged directors believe he should be, after all, the gentleman was a decorated war hero and highly skilled Doctor, with apologies to the purists amongst us I also thought that Jude Law did an admirable effort himself too. Agree entirely. Crawford's portrayal is far better than that of Nigel Bruce. That Watson makes you wonder how he ever passed medical school. Anything out of the ordinary is completely impossible and incomprehensible. Holmes proposes a novel idea and is immediately pronounced "mad." And Jude Law was amazing. Much closer to what Doyle obviously intended.

There are any number of pictures on the net of Ronald Howard's illustrious father, Leslie Howard, with his family, reaching back to the early 1900s. His sister, Leslie Ruth Howard, figures in most of them, with her dad, mostly, but also with her mom! Ronald, looking so young and dapper here, was born in 1918 and his sister, Ruth in 1924.
The Texas Cowgirl is my favorite episode. I LOVE the way she talks. I know its not great acting but something about her i love. Lol! She's actually an incredibly beautiful woman. There's many many beautiful women in this series.
THAT is what they called "the GRIP" when you look at credits- -they didn't have that perfected then-- camear agjustments were not automatic-and it's an optial effect caused by keeping the actors in focus as they moved against the backgound- or wanted to change the scene.
@@davidcarter6475 Thank you very much for elucidating; I'd never seen such visual distortions before, and had concluded the film was somehow warped with age (like myself). And now that you've mentioned it, I remember seeing "Key Grip" in credits, as a child, and imagined it involved baggage handling! Live and learn, right?
I agree!! Watching it makes me feel kinda wonky ... especially during the episode 'the Belligerent Ghost' it's really annoying. *Just wondering now if they think it is some clever thing, so we feel like it's ghostly?
70 years old....WTF do you expect. Celebrate it. Do not decry it. You clearly are useless eaters, as Kissenger would say. Expect everything and deserve nothing.
it was bugging me so I went back and checked 5 different people , that has uploaded in this particular video/ episode and I found ( free domain ) and the orchestra composition on all of The Originals but that music you're using is completely different Orchestra composition. °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° but that's okay everyone has their own prerogative
I always watched the Basil Rathbone Sherlock ones and he is my favorite however and always will be I think he is the true essence of Sherlock.. bit I think that series is ruined by how Watson is made to be a complete bumbling idiot..I mean he is supposed to be a Dr he couldn't have been that dumb..., I stumbled across these and...overall I think these are my favorite because I love Ronald as Sherlock and I love how competent Watson is in this series! And not a complete idiot. Love love this series they make the perfect team!
Indeed. I never understood why they depicted Watson like that. Not exactly credible that Holmes would be friends with a fool. In these series, Holmes speaks of Watson very adamantly, you can tell they are friends.
I found the DVD ,all the I think 39 episodes ...I e joyed the writing , and was very very delighted lost the DVD? But on WiFi ....I too think the pair are superb and the quality of the show is surprisingly not just good but extremely good !! How ,did I not have known ,heard I enjoy them and can watch them muchly!over again like ......quality!!/!//pass on to one and all!!
Basil Rathbone's portrayal of Sherlock Holmes is also my favorite. H. Marion Crawford's portrayal of Dr. Watson was more to the original story of Sherlock Holmes.
The most soothing Sherlock Holmes portrayal. No air, no rashness. Just simple naturalness.
Just a massive dose of racism and a deplorable script.
Pretty darn good show. The best thing about Holmes stories and plots is the use of logic and psychology, Dog knows we need more of that these days.
It should be based on the books, not fiction writers. Sherlock was a full blood Apache and we do not see him high on peyote in a single frame. Crap.
This is my favorite version of Sherlock Holmes. I cannot believe directors, in his day, said Ronald lacked “star quality.” The man keeps folks watching this series because he is so natural in the role.

Love the narrative of a comical side!!!!😍😂😂
I like the music. A lot. It's perfect.
I do too! The usual theme on this series, I found very grating on the ear.
I am the biggest fan of Sherlock Holmes who lived at 21 Baker Street.
Brilliant Love all these detectives but this is great thanks best regards
Watching him for the first time.... To me Jeremy Brett is the best Sherlock Holmes ever then Basil Rathbone
Basil Rathbone wasn't that good Howard's better
This series is very good. The 40s versions with Basil Rathbone seem to top them all, but this is remarkably good.
The cowboy client is over the top
An American stereotype from the British point of view. Fairly accurate to the characters portrayed in the original Holmes novels & stories.
Thanks for your effort truly
Ah, good old black and white. Times were much simpler back in a time when I didn't even exist. 😂
Am I the only one, who had motion sickness, when the close ups happened?
My favourite Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson characters.
Thank you
elegant and classy, just like his dad.
That cowgirl! WHERE did they dig that character up!
That accent is way over the top!But she tried.
The villain in this episode happens to be in a lot of Sherlock homes episodes.
I see a wee bit of the Valley of Fear in the first episode.
Indeed.
Odd rewriting of Doyle original plot points are woven throughout this series.
Thank you!!!!!
Nice movie to watch again & again,,, much love from Kenya, rtn back please
Hello Kenya, it is great to share this delightful version of
Sherlock Holmes.Greetings from New England, USA.
My fave version of Holmes!
Good show . . . jolly good show.
that's a concrete draw bridge so it can't be lifted small note but it happens in old movie's........
I was wondering about that too!!
The Texas Cowgirl is my favorite episode. I LOVE the way she talks. I know its not great acting but something about her i love. Lol! She's actually an incredibly beautiful woman. There's many many beautiful women in this series.
Camera work is making me sea sick. Take me back to Basil Rathbone. I guess those were movies and this is TV.
Ronald Howard and Basil Rathbone are equally same as Roger Moore and Sean Connery as James Bond
Great stories as always. But man, what's with the wavy camera angles? You can get dizzy watching these particular episodes!
THAT is what they called "the GRIP" when you look at credits- -they didn't have that perfected then-- camear agjustments were not automatic-and it's an optial effect caused by keeping the actors in focus as they moved against the backgound- or wanted to change the scene.
Kinda bothers me and makes my ONE eye vision cause me to need Dramamine to watch it> ha.
I'm pretty new to the Holmes canon.
But i have to say: this guy playing him is downright sexy. Uff.
Crazy camera work, the background wavers and looks like cameraman has shaky fingers with the focus knob.
Expect everything and deserve nothing.
it was bugging me so I went back and checked 5 different people , that has uploaded in this particular
video/ episode and I
found ( free domain ) and the orchestra composition on all of The Originals but that music you're using is completely different
Orchestra composition.
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
but that's okay everyone has their own prerogative
I preferred the ORIGINAL MUSIC to this series-- not that wimpy mess they're playing with this..
@@davidcarter6475 .
Brett was Holmes , Rathbone was a Hollywood caricature of Holmes
He’s not a real doc, was a medic in the service and he’s a real PUTZ like frank burns on mash
why is the musical intro changed?
The castle scene would have been better filmed on a cloudy foggy day.
It was a decent series and this was made the year I was born long time ago but still seems like yesterday that's how fast time goes
Este es el mejor de todos los Sherlock Holmes artista que salen en los programas nuevos
Am i the only one notice the background keep moving😂😂😂😂
The end. That ridiculous cowgirl episode. What were they thinking. Not a good Sherlock episode. I can't bear to watch any more.
Don't know why the producer felt the need to include orchestra music. .... Doesn't help.
Boom Bloom. Love
Ronald Howard surely resembles his father, Leslie.
The woman playing the cowgirl really did a hatchet job of her texas accent .. But I enjoy her character
There is a place in Shrewsbury called Christmas Pie.
Pity the upload utilised the framing algo. Get dizzy watching, so, too bad.
I like them all even the 4th one ☝️🤦🏽♀️🤷🏾♀️🙋🏽👏🏾👁 plus this one loves that hat the rest doesn't !☺️
I liked how the sergeants number made 2018 @ 19:30
Licious, luscious, lanky
I agree totally 👍
You could get motion sickness watching this. I'm out!
Right here. 😷❤
This "new" Musik is annoying! The old was much better. 😒
Wow! That's some.....? Cinema photography. I feel, hanked around and sorta see sick. Maybe a little off balance too. À
