Phil turned into Grant. This was the start of his dark downward spiral.
In the early years, Phil wouldn't have been as angry as he was here. He would have been trying to restrain Grant, as he would have been the one doing this.
I bet if Grant was still around here, he would have been trying to restrain Phil instead.
Mind if you Grant hadn't left, Phil wouldn't of done this, he'd of been the same character.
I am still wondering if the writers had many future storylines and scenes mapped out for Grant well in advance, and this fight scene was one of them, but actor Ross Kemp decided to leave in March 1999, so his stories were given to Phil.

There was meant to be a major storyline in 1997, when Grant was gunna rape Tiffany on Christmas Day.
But Ross was furious at the idea, and threatened to leave the show, so they didn't go through with it. As he was too much of a good actor for them to lose.
@@rorymckernan8502 Ross decided to quit in early 1999 though, just over a year after the rape storyline proposal. Ross may have felt Grant was getting too nasty so felt it was time to go. So Grant's personality and probably his storylines were given to Phil.

@@Uksoapfan There’s a video of a female copper chasing down a guy in London and it was comical. The guy wasn’t athletic at all and still managed to outrun her.
@@H.K.5 Proves my point, they are better off at admin, doughnut collecting and saying "You are arrested" while the men do the arresting, they need to be like Barnaby or Morse, hand out the orders but never do anything.

not gonna lie, Phil was gonna use Roy no matter what but, I do love the sympathy that Steve brings to the role. Phil feels sorry that he has to take advantage of someone as honest as Roy, but he can't resist the score.

Steve wasn’t a hardman in my opinion.
This is literally alpha central beppe, dan, gianni phil steve who was not hard hard but still an alpha male, went toe to toe with phil once even if he got battered in the end. There is almost as much testosterone in the bar as when dan went for ricky and grant had to hold him back that time. Plus you got fat barry there dont forget 😂

If this was 2023 Billy he would have probably ducked the punch and definitely fought back, Billy wasnt a weakling he was scared and if he was pushed to far he was strong

Ha yea grant ragdolled him several times was jokes. Once against his crappy undercover maroon xantia and in his own yard was about to get a spanking and joe walked in. Also floored him twice in the vic sending him crashing into the bar stools on both occassions. Although beppe got a tiny shove back after the nina confrontation before he was decked.

Too bad 20th February that year was a Sunday (when they would've shown the omnibus version) as that would've marked 10 years since Phil's first appearance. But I guess him kicking off at the end of this episode 3 days before hand was good enough.

Billy was definitely brave and stupid to say phil was a wimp just as Jamie and Lisa convinced him that it wasn't worth the hassle.
