Kinda overlooking Johny "Big Rig" Hendricks. That dude deserves a spot more than Conor does. Conor got power but his KOs come more from timing, precision and technique.
Yes. This was exactly my thought too, glad someone else in the comment section agrees. Hendricks' KOs in his prime were the most brutal shit I've ever seen, so powerful. One punch and they'd just go flying, out cold before they hit the ground.
Hendricks only had knockout power when he was taking shit. As soon as they cracked down on the trt and shit like that he lost his power and got the boot from the ufc. That would be my only argument against him
@@joshmitchell5654 I think it's the IV ban that had more to do with it. He gets bloated out of camp like Paddy and he just couldn't get on weight as he got older. Plus that type of lifestyle shrinks an athlete's prime.
He noticeably changed after IV rehydration was removed: no longer the ripped welterweight, now a pudgy middleweight, no kp power & a glass jaw (which, to be fair, could've been brought about by the wars he's had).
& he knocked out an injured Fitch on short notice with a blown MCL- because Dana was trying to say "fuck you" to Fitch without explicitly saying it

1:21 Henderson setup against Bisping is great. He throws a lead leg kick and a lead hook. The throws the same lead leg kick causing Mike to parry what he thinks is another lead hook, but instead he pitches that insane right hand down the line right onto his jaw.
Imagine what unnecessary damage Hunt could have done if he didn't walk off. He sees it and feels it before the ref can even respond. Good for him 🙌🏾

I really wonder what it is that generates power. There are guys that look skinny but have crazy power and guys that are huge but lack it. It doesn't seem to just be technique. Wonder if some people's bones/tendons are just built different and can transfer more force similar to how falling onto concrete can really fuck you up compared to grass or mats.
Just as examples.
Paulo costa is one of the most muscular fighters out there but has no 1 punch knockouts and his stopages and most knockdowns have come from overwhelming his opponent.
Prince Naseem Hamed is not very muscular at all but had a lot of 1 punch KO's and knockdowns.
Different sports and weight classes but meant to show that power must be more than muscle and size.
It’s definitely an intriguing topic of discussion

You say it isn't technique but I don't think you can see the minute differences between good technique, great technique, and legendary technique. I work striking and the difference between a clean straight right and a wobbly one is way less than would be visible. Body type matters but at high levels all these guys have it. Technique = power.

Conor's power is overrated. It was more so his amazing timing, precision and countering abilities that stood out. Jeremy Stephens and Josh Emmett had that go to sleep power
@@bossanostra4572 agreed, but Igor was an OG fighter,things were alot different when he started his run. Mma in itself was still very much a new and growing sport .. like no gloves,headbuts and even groinshots were all good back then
@@dmenlee but tbf, power alone has nothing to do if you're not technical enough with the exception of Francis Ngannou. in lighter divisions, you need to be more fluid and more skilled to land your shot. also, Dustin Poirier admitted Conor is the hardest hitter he ever fought.

If you look at the replay Ngannou's does touch Cain whilst he's falling but do notice how, unlike 99.999% of Francis' victims, Cain is FULLY aware and holding his knee as soon as the fight gets stopped. If a Francis Ngannou level punch would've hit an older version of Cain He'd be out stiff, which he wasn't. Not even close.
Francis Won, but he never KO'd Cain, and it's one of the biggest misconceptions in MMA these days.
